The Megatron loyalist followed Galvatron in 'five faces' but would they have followed Novascream? I'd love to hear a part 2 of what you think the Megatron/Cybertron loyal would do.
Megatron being left behind on Junk.....I could see this leading to an interesting season 3 episode. Maybe we do get a Dark Awakening and Return of______, but its "Return of Megatron" instead. Brought back by the Junkions in a new armored truck body similar to the Botcon 2015 toy. (With his dotm poncho and shotgun for good measure)
If you wanted to, you could fully animate this, where we could actually see hot Rod blasting the gun that killed Optimus away from Megatron, and Optimus telling hot Rod, the prophecy of the matrix and stuff.
I have the Deviations comic. I read it 3 times and found something I thought was wrong each time. I like what you have done, but here are some changes I would make to your script: 1) Consider adding an energon ax versus morning star (my one gripe about the fight) 2) Have Megatron fire his rear cannon before grabbing the gun knocking down Optimus, Hot Rod fires at him distracting him and enabling Optimus to shoot him and critically wound him 3) Optimus has to go to the Ark for major repairs, he gives the matrix to Ultra Magnus for safe keeping, but he drops it and Hot Rod catches it 4) While the movie proceeds as much as normal, Hot Rod sometimes hears Optimus's voice, helping him and guiding him along 5) Love your ending, don't change a thing.
Funnily enough I too thought a "What if Prime survived". Though it's different. Hot Rod does still shot the gun away but, Megatron let's Prime get close for another round of CQC and like the original flim gets thrown over the edge were Soundwave saves him. When Starscream tries to overthrow Megatron, this time he has had enough and uses that to throw Starscream out along with shooting his cannon. Badly injuring Starscream, when he meets Unicron I personally have him be upgraded into Overlord (oh and SkyWarp is Cyclonus). Unicron knows that unless he does something right now, he'll be destroyed by the Matrix. He tasks Overlord to go back to earth to destroyed it and all the Autobots. Back on earth, we cut to the Ark where Prime is learning about the string of planets being destroyed which worries him as, he knows who is behind it. He and Hot Rod have a talk like in your story but, get interrupted by Megatron wanting revenge. His body was give a bit of an upgrade (he turns into a tank now) Prime knowing that this can only end one way. He gives the Matrix to Hot Rod and tells him and tells him to go back to Autobot City immediately, and show Ultra Magnus the Matrix he'll have to be his tutor now. The battle at the Ark ends when the Ark's power core gets heavily damaged and explodes, the only survivors are those that weren't inside the base. That leaves both sides leaderless. When Hot Rod returns to the city and informs (along with giving him the Matrix) Maguns he, immediately calls for evacuation. That's when Overlord and his Decepticons arrive, in the attack Hot Rod and Magnus get separated. And things play out like normal from here on, obvious the only real difference being Overlord taking Galvatron's place. The aftermath: since both sides have inexperienced leaders I imagine that the Autobots being able to retake parts of Cybertron that were abandoned by thr Cons during Unicron's attack. And the war turns to trench wayfarer for season 3.
@@BasedVegeta Well Overlord's morden characterisation is that he is furious with Megatron as, Megatron is the only bot to ever defeat Overlord. So Starscream being upgraded into Overlord would be a twist on that. Though of course he never gets to show Megatron how powerful he's now in my "What if" and, that is something that sticks with him forever.
You’re right. This version is basically the best of both worlds. It even has both leaders surviving until nova scream/Starscream arrives and fatally wounds megs. I’m sure that if this version was the one that the writers actually came up with, Optimus prime fans would’ve preferred this one a lot more. But, history probably would’ve repeated itself this time replacing Optimus prime fans with Megatron fans. It just stinks to see one of the leaders of an entire Cybertron faction just go like that. either way, I would love to see this animated.
Duuuude. What if videos!? Heck yeah!!!! I freaking LOVE this stuff!!! I would ADORE seeing more of these for G1or any other series. And you did a great job TJ!
As much as I love Ultra Magnus they should have just kept optimus as the leader and just swapped out the trailer. New toy, same character, no broken hearts.
The thing we have to remember is that one of the main purposes of the Transformers movie was to introduce a new line of toys and clear the slate of the discontinued characters. For that, we can't just have Optimus Prime continue on as he is. However, the new toyline did provide a convenient "out" for this situation since while the toy we know as Optimus Prime was discontinued another very similar toy was being introduced. In the movie we got, this toy would be introduced as Ultra Magnus, a new character with his similarities to Optimus downplayed (hence why we never saw his un-armoured robot mode) but that toy could just as easily have been used as an upgraded form of Optimus. Doing so would mean that we'd lose Ultra Magnus as a character, but he doesn't seem to play much of a role in your summary anyway. The other issue is Galvatron. That was another major new toy being introduced so he would need some sort of role in the movie. He doesn't need to be a reformatted Megatron, but he needs to play a part.
This was way better than Deviations. I'm intrested to see what else will next you'll do. I hope you do a "What If" or how you would do for Transformers Animated season 4. With the standard 13 episodes choosen from the pitch ideas. Sticking on to both the shows ideas and stuff before it. Like if Prime or Cyberverse didn't exist yet. Sticking with what's been established. If you probably want! You couldn't even start it off with live show and continue it. I know this is a little long, but I'm just saying it be cool to see something do a summary what if for TFA Season 4!
Really good my only problem is NovaScream attempting to betray Unicron and then realizing he'd prefer to stay Unicrons herald. Not saying it doesn't make sense for Starscream to something like that I just think it makes alot more sense for Starscrean to help Unicron destroy cybertron and the reason he'd go inside Unicron is to protect him from the autobots
When Megatron died in this universe, my heart saddened a little… I know it’s stupid, but I really was hoping that he could have a good guy redemption ark.
This is an AWESOME piece of "what if" daydreaming and someone should make a fan film of it IMMEDIATELY! It sounds like a FAR better movie than the one we actually got! The only tweak I would make in my version is Hot Rod remains as Rodimus at the end, with Optimus choosing to take a step back and mentor him that way, kinda like Ultra Magnus did in the real season 3. That could free up Ultra Magnus to be more doubtful of Rodimus' leadership (questioning whether he's ready or not, etc.) but going along with it because he trusts Optimus. So you have this little triangle between the three of them with Magnus going back and forth between his conflicted feelings - some days he trusts Optimus more than he doubts Rodimus, others the reverse. And yeah, Deviations did feel a bit mean-spirited. Been a while since I read it, but the thing that got me was how hard I seem to remember all the characters being on Hot Rod; felt a bit out of character for many of them - particularly Optimus and Magnus.
This sounds awesome! If I was going to do a What If alternate reality of this scenario I would make Soundwave be the one to destroy Starscream at the coronation and be the one reformatted by Unicron due to his loyalty to Megatron and alliance with Unicron would allow him to best serve Megatron if he was the power of a planet on the side of the Decepticons and would relinquish command to Megatron when they free from Autobot imprisonment. I think it would be cool to see Soundwave in more of the lime light :D
I think Prime could’ve died toward the end of the film within Unicron. It would’ve fulfilled the passing of the torch plot they were going for without doing it too soon. But hey there is a billion outcomes that could come from this story.
It's an interesting idea, but it ignores the fact that Megatron was so heavily damaged that a punch put him on the edge of death. That aside, I'd have Starscream become the herald, still kicking Megatron to the curb, only to have Unicron remake him into Galvatron when it became obvious Starscream was a traitor.
There are some really cool ideas here. The only problem is that people tend to forget that Optimus WAS going to kill Megatron. “No matter the cost.” “One shall stand, one shall fall.” Kup - “Finish him, Prime.” And of course Prime grabbing the gun for the final blow. He was ready to end the charade. I guess the one thing that would’ve stopped him to rethink would’ve been Hot Rod’s interference, lending him realize Megatron is defenseless and should have a trial.
I also don't understand why people keep thinking that G1 Optimus Prime would never kill and wouldn't have killed Megatron in that scene. Prime seemed very serious in the movie than he normaly was. I also think that he only wouldn't have killed Megatron if he saw he was really defenseless like you said. More like the Jedi way.
Enjoying the content. Had idea similar but with more deaths in both sides. I wrote some of it out, but was having trouble with the matrix and how to make it fit
You want a “What If”? What if the shuttle hijacking was an inside job? Think about it… how did the Decepticons manage to get on a shuttle flying at near light speed (presumably), without attacking from a ship of their own? Someone on the shuttle must’ve disabled any enemy detection system and also slowed the shuttle down at the exact right time for the Decepticons to detonate a bomb on the shuttle’s hull. You can see, the Decepticons weren’t in a ship. Must’ve been dropped off on an nearby asteroid along the shuttle’s flight path, and when the bomb goes off, they just fly right on in. Maybe it was Brawn. He’s the first to get up and then take one to the shoulder (yeah it blew out his back, Starscream double crossed him). Or Ironhide. Tired of taking Prime’s crap all the time “But Prime!” I can hear him say. Yes Megs shoots his head off, but that may have been a double cross. Ironhide was supposed to stay down, but then when he heard the real plan, Ironhide had a change of heart and wanted to appeal to Megatron’s sense of honor - “Such heroic nonsense”
Wow man ,that was good 👍 !! I saw it in the Theater when it can out and….well…. That’s all I have to say about that.I love the part about Megatron , it was perfect the way you said it. Thank you for fixing it I didn’t think it could be done.
Space has no gravity, but weight is still a thing, more mass = more energy required to move the mass. Astrotrain demanded to jettison the damaged 'cons to get to Cybertron faster and with less energon/fuel/etc. expended. With that nitpick aside though, I quite like this alternate "what if", especially Megatron's redemption arc and desire to save Cybertron from Unicron.
I agree with this video, but it will set up for the return of Megatron as an Autobot, because of the fact that Novascream and the Decepticons gathering Energon for the revival of Unicron and in my opinion would have been successful in doing so, and this will lead to the true final battle between the Autobots with Megatron included and Novascream and the Decepticons with a revived Unicron. The final battle will include the removal of the Matrix of leadership, the death of Optimus, and Hot Rod becomes Rodimus and truly accepting the role of leader into truly destroying Unicron to the point of no repair and Novascream being captured and Megatron getting the remaining Decepticons an opportunity to becoming redeemed like he was, when he self sacrificed himself to tell Optimus to save Cybertron and then his systems turned off.
The only thing I would change is instead of Optimus having the conversation with Hot Rod, it’s with Ultra Magnus, but Hot Rod overhears it from behind a doorway. EDIT: to add… I think the reason Optimus should kept Megatron alive would be to see a fair trail. I also wouldn’t have killed him on Junk, and would have let him go with the B team inside Unicron. I think he would have made an interesting character dynamic with Daniel, and would have died then, to save the kid and his father inside Unicron. As for Optimus, I know it goes against the core concept, but I really do believe he needed to die in order for Hot Rod’s arc to be completed. So having him sacrifice himself inside Unicron to stop Novascream from destroying would have completed that arc and made for a better story.
Nice treatment! I probably would have found your take more compelling. However, 10 year old me, who saw TF:TM in the theater in 1986, probably would have been happy with almost anything.
I really do enjoy your interpretation of this scenario. Incredibly satisfying to listen to. It is a little like mine, only with a few differences. I love the idea of Novascream however, and in mine he never really ejected the damaged decepticons, as in my version Unicron found them in Astrotrain. And I feel Skywarp and Thundercracker would be upgraded too, but keeping their names and colour scheme.
Deviations was a farce! I'm glad I read it online instead of paying for it! Anyway, I like your version better! Especially the idea of Unicron torturing Nova Scream every time he fails!
I love this idea! But I would've had Optimus and Hot Rod jump Novascream. Being that He's way stronger than a both. During the fight NS would've still been whiping the floor with both of them. But during the fight the Matrix get knocked away. Optimus tells HR, "to get the Matrix" I'll hold him off, you must active its power! Just before HR picks up the Matrix NS impales OP. Then NS beats HR within a inch of his life. But wait OP isn't dead. He has just enough strength to distract NS for HR to active the Matrix and be come Rodimus Prime. RP and NS fight he throws NS out of Unicron and UC explodes. Back on Cybertron they have a memorial ceremony for Optimus Prime and every autobot that survived is in attendance. Till all are one, credits role.
Way better than Deviations, far closer to the original vision of the characters as a whole. I still love the original movie as is, but I would have been fine if it turned out the way you described instead, and would have loved to see the series continuing afterward. Would love to hear more about those potential changes afterward.
This is fantasticb but I agree Megatron needs a better end. My suggestion would be that, since Optimus' death was studio mandate because of his toy sales declining, Megatron volunteers his parts to the repair of optimus, maybe Optimus had a vital component compromised, and Optimus is rebuilt into either Powermaster Optimus with a version of Megatron as his Powermaster partner, or into Star convoy.
I just realized something. I was this idea, possibly inspired by the transformers prime episode “one shall rise“ were Optimus and Megatron also teamed up to defeat Unicron?
In my version Megatron is reaching for the pistol and before Hot Rod interferes Prime shoots Megatron’s hand before he can grab the pistol then after he clutches his damaged hand for a few seconds Megatron grabs Hot Rod and shoves him towards Prime and makes his escape.
I am imagining The bickering Novascream and Cyclonus would have and how Cyclonus' gonna kidnap Novascream and send him to a psychiatrist. Also, considering how hot headed hot rod is, he would probably more likely to just run over The gun and Megatron's hand instead of shooting it away.
I’d imagine that Megatron would tell Optimus “don’t do it. Don’t listen to that traitor!“ and Megatron would call Starscream, or in this case nova scream, a traitor right to his face.
You know, idea for another potential 'what if' that would be interesting: What if in Prime Smokescreen actually DID get the Matrix and was upgraded into a Prime? Let's say he arrived a few minutes later and Optimus's spark fully joined the All Spark before he could hand him the Forge to upgrade him. I suggest this one because it'd only require Beast Hunters to be taken into account, not the entire series or most of it, and I know you like Rodimus Prime, and this would be similar. Just a thought I had.
I think the biggest change wouldn't be within the story but outside, the backlash optimus' death got made hasbro realise people had an emotional connection to that character and arguably the fact it was on a huge screen in a movie exaggerated that effect on people. Had optimus' death never happened he could've easily be slowly phased out, with little fanfare and we would've had something similar to what the japanese were doing for a while. Beast wars may not have felt the need to reference optimus with their main character and until the 80s nostalgia boom every series would be lead by whatever the new toy design was.
This is way more satisfying than Deviations. Your version may not have as many changes, but the differences are far more meaningful.
Yup Deviations felt mean

Brought back by the Junkions in a new armored truck body similar to the Botcon 2015 toy. (With his dotm poncho and shotgun for good measure)
If you wanted to, you could fully animate this, where we could actually see hot Rod blasting the gun that killed Optimus away from Megatron, and Optimus telling hot Rod, the prophecy of the matrix and stuff.
I have the Deviations comic. I read it 3 times and found something I thought was wrong each time. I like what you have done, but here are some changes I would make to your script:
1) Consider adding an energon ax versus morning star (my one gripe about the fight)
2) Have Megatron fire his rear cannon before grabbing the gun knocking down Optimus, Hot Rod fires at him distracting him and enabling Optimus to shoot him and critically wound him
3) Optimus has to go to the Ark for major repairs, he gives the matrix to Ultra Magnus for safe keeping, but he drops it and Hot Rod catches it
4) While the movie proceeds as much as normal, Hot Rod sometimes hears Optimus's voice, helping him and guiding him along
5) Love your ending, don't change a thing.
You gotta keep these "What if's" going. Next you should do "What if Dinobot 2 survived into Beast Machines?"
We need a series for that
I'm taking notes on the Novascream details as we speak.
@@BasedVegeta Where?
Galvatron as a character was replaced by Novascream, so his toy wouldn't exist. Novascream would receive a toy instead.
Long time fan TJ, thought this was fantastic and I'd love to see it animated or even in stop motion!
Hey TJ, you could be a great book writer, your creativity is amazing
We need a part 2 of this video. Good stuff man.
We need an animated mini series
This was way better than Deviations. I'm intrested to see what else will next you'll do. I hope you do a "What If" or how you would do for Transformers Animated season 4. With the standard 13 episodes choosen from the pitch ideas. Sticking on to both the shows ideas and stuff before it. Like if Prime or Cyberverse didn't exist yet. Sticking with what's been established. If you probably want! You couldn't even start it off with live show and continue it. I know this is a little long, but I'm just saying it be cool to see something do a summary what if for TFA Season 4!
I can't imagine hot rod face after saw that
I always liked Deviations but honestly your version is way better. I’d love to see that drawn up as a comic. Well done TJ.
This did a better job than deviations, I'd love to make this story into a stop motion video.
This was great! I would love to see a part two on this scenario, or any other Transformers what ifs for that matter.
It makes sense to me. Think of all the times he's tried to kill Megatron only to go back to grovelling at his feet minutes later.
When Megatron died in this universe, my heart saddened a little… I know it’s stupid, but I really was hoping that he could have a good guy redemption ark.
This is not just FAR superior to deviations but for me It actually do it better than the movie
Oooo What if videos sounds really fun!
Awesome video Tj! Please make this a running series!
I envision this to be like an episode of Marvel What If?
This is a far better take on that concept, and Novascream is a great name for an upgraded Starscream@ thanks for doing this!
In this version of Dark Awakening, Megaton becomes the zombie.
Novascream is now canon, thank you very much.
Excellent job. Very smart and also very heartfelt story. Congratulations and I sincerely hope this end up being produce.
Oh, MAN! This is SO much better than that DEVIATIONS garbage where everyone rags on Hot Rod.
This was amazing !
This was fantastic and I'd love to see a part two. :)
MORE WHAT IFS LIKE THIS PLEASE!!!
15:48 Megatron : You gave up you Spark !
Novascream : That's why I have no fear
Nice treatment! I probably would have found your take more compelling. However, 10 year old me, who saw TF:TM in the theater in 1986, probably would have been happy with almost anything.
I liked the story and want to hear more of Novascream and season 3. Keep doing it
Cool concept I like it. I'd personally have megatron survive for a team up at the end to stop Novascream.
That was a pretty great version of the TF movie.
Love it. I’d like to see a design or some thing for Nova Scream. Sounds like a very interesting design
Deviations was a farce! I'm glad I read it online instead of paying for it! Anyway, I like your version better! Especially the idea of Unicron torturing Nova Scream every time he fails!
Yes a part 2 with mega tron being returned to life like prime was
Bought this the week of BotCon 2016 and read it on the two hour drive there.
Amazing job dude
Don't know Deviations, but I rather enjoyed your take on the idea
Way better than Deviations, far closer to the original vision of the characters as a whole. I still love the original movie as is, but I would have been fine if it turned out the way you described instead, and would have loved to see the series continuing afterward. Would love to hear more about those potential changes afterward.
This was awesome! I would like to see more what ifs like this.
This is favorite of your new videos!
I would like to see a part 2.
I've actually done a part 2! Been sidetracked for a while now but a part 3 is also planned.
@@TJOmega I can’t wait for it.
I just realized something. I was this idea, possibly inspired by the transformers prime episode “one shall rise“ were Optimus and Megatron also teamed up to defeat Unicron?
Awesome video I like your version and the return of Optimus could be replaced with the return of Megatron
I like the idea of Starscream being the herald so much better than Megatron, he's more unhinged and nasty
I’d imagine that Megatron would tell Optimus “don’t do it. Don’t listen to that traitor!“ and Megatron would call Starscream, or in this case nova scream, a traitor right to his face.
now i want to see this so much
Please do more what if’s for transformers like this
You know, idea for another potential 'what if' that would be interesting:
What if in Prime Smokescreen actually DID get the Matrix and was upgraded into a Prime? Let's say he arrived a few minutes later and Optimus's spark fully joined the All Spark before he could hand him the Forge to upgrade him.
I suggest this one because it'd only require Beast Hunters to be taken into account, not the entire series or most of it, and I know you like Rodimus Prime, and this would be similar. Just a thought I had.
I absolutely love this story! I would have loved this instead of what we got.
Hasbro: My Destiny. This isn’t how I wanted it to end.😰
Optimus prime: On the contrary! I could not have allowed this to end otherwise!
Very enjoyable what if. Can't say much more
A Galvatron and Starscream hybrid called nova scream. That would be a very interesting bot to have facing off against Optimus and hot rod.
I liked this a lot, i look forward to a part 2, and so on.
Hot rod = the chosen one.
Pretty Cool!
Low key this is a better version of the movie
I think the biggest change wouldn't be within the story but outside, the backlash optimus' death got made hasbro realise people had an emotional connection to that character and arguably the fact it was on a huge screen in a movie exaggerated that effect on people.
Had optimus' death never happened he could've easily be slowly phased out, with little fanfare and we would've had something similar to what the japanese were doing for a while. Beast wars may not have felt the need to reference optimus with their main character and until the 80s nostalgia boom every series would be lead by whatever the new toy design was.
