    4 wars on 3 continents experience here. Brian seems to really know his stuff. The SWAT-T definitely has it’s place and I always have several in my kit to back up the CATs and others. Especially useful on K9s and children. Good job guys!

    The HUGE thing for the SWAT-T is I always, always have it on my person...even swimsuit. I have an approved tourniquet (or 3) in my bag in my car...but sometimes that may as well be forever away. I do recommend practicing with it-especially in self application.

      He covers a lot of gun stuff, which is all fine and dandy, but it's good to have a reminder that in the end being a defender is about saving lives, not taking them. If you're only prepared to kill you're really not prepared at all.

    I carry a swat T everyday, never knew it was frowned upon. It's easy to throw in my back pocket or cargo pocket pretty flat. I dont wear pants everyday so ankle kit isn't for me and I dont know how to conceal the cat or any other concealable tourney.

    • @Kalaharijack69
      @Kalaharijack69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Frowned upon by those with limited experience. It a very useful tool but one needs to know its strengths and limitations.

      You can fold a SOFT-T W small enough so that it is relatively the same size and thickness of a SWAT-T and can fit in your pocket. Just secure it with a rubber band and you're good to go. They also make small belt holsters for them too if you want to go that route

    I just had my Stop The Bleed class yesterday. In that class they showed us videos of people bleeding out and some being saved by tourniquets. We had to watch a video of a domestic violence call where a father attacked the mother with a knife. He missed the mother and cut a child's arm open. The child was screaming and bleeding and a CAT-T was applied. It failed to work properly due to the arm being too small for the CAT-T to work effectively. The child's life was saved by the medic simply squeezing the child's arm to stop the bleeding. In that case I would rather have a SWAT-T. I may need to go hands on to help someone else or stop another threat. I can't do that holding pressure on someone's limb. Plus, some people's limbs may be too big for a CAT-T or SOFT-T. SWAT-Ts are not that difficult to use when trained properly under stress.

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Um, that video is actually on the main channel and the CAT actually worked. Also...note that even IF it didn't work, then the child's arm was small enough that direct pressure ended the bleeding and so a sub-par tourniquet was unnecessary.

    • @greenebum
      @greenebum 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ASPextra The reason they showed the video in class wasn't to show that a SWAT-T works. Which it does. They showed it to show us that having your tools readily available saves lives. If the video the officer is fumbling to open the packages. They didn't show the whole video in class so I had to re watched it on here. You're right it did work but, having multiple options is a good thing. If you run out of CATs or SOFT-Ts. The EMT who gave the class even carries a SWAT-T in the field for back-up. And for mass casualties and pressure bandages.

    I often carry a SOFT-T in my spare magazine holster when belt-carrying my CZ75, but the problem is I have to tuck in my shirt at work 5 days a week. I haven't yet figured out how to carry the SOFT-T in a pocket while also carrying my J-frame, wallet, flashlight, multitool, pen, keys, 2 cell phones, and small first aid pack (the "micro" by Helicon-Tex). This is where the SWAT-T shines, in my opinion. I can fold the SWAT-T to fit inside my first aid pack, which goes in the back pocket of my dress pants. No, it's not a full-on tourniquet, but it can still be used to stop some more-than-trivial bleeding.
    I know there are a lot of strong opinions on either side of this debate, but I think of it as different "levels" of preparedness for different types of dress. When I wear my dress pants at work, for instance, I carry a Swiss Army Knife because it is light enough for that style of dress; it doesn't have pliers like my Leatherman, but I can't carry my Leatherman in dress pants.
    Similarly, I pocket carry a J-frame in my dress pants, even though I much prefer to carry my CZ75 on a belt holster. When my shirt is tucked in, though, I have to carry the J-frame, even though it's harder to shoot and doesn't hold nearly as much ammo.
    It's the same thing with the SWAT-T. I would always prefer to have my SOFT-T with me, but I have not yet figured out how to carry that in my dress pants pockets. Meanwhile, the SWAT-T can serve as a better-than-nothing alternative.

    brother, i love you--eat vegetables and excercise frequently. Heart disease is significantly more deadly than bullets, and the speed and agility to escape an attacker--or get to someone in need, is more valuable than all the gun skills in the world

    When I broke my ankle and just wrapped it with an ace bandage, I had one, final 'tuck loop' just above the bulk of the bandage solely for the purpose of tucking the end. Not sure if that would help in this scenario.

    I use the swat and gauze for creating a pressure bandage. Add celox and THERE'S A LOT you can do

    I keep saying that I use my RATS all the time. Right now, it's holding down a tarp. Also handy for strapping things to a backpack.
    A lot more expensive than a standard bungee cord but helps to open up dialog about what should be carried.

  • @arynricardo6169
    @arynricardo6169 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What can that do that an ACE wrap can’t do? I’d like to see a comparison. Might test it myself.

  • @TrueOpinion99
    @TrueOpinion99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I could see it being useful for treating people with limbs that don't allow the use of normal tourniquet, or as a constricting band for treating things like snake bites, or to help apply direct pressure on serious, non-life-threatening bleeds (like if you do dumb things with a sharp object).

    When you need a tourniquet, you need it now. I have approved tourniquets in my first aid kits, but rarely on my person. If I ever need it, odds are good that I'll have a Swat-T on me. If needed, I'm confident I can make it work. A Swat-t in your back pocket is much better than an approved tourniquet... in your car trunk. Practice with it.

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a crappy reason to carry it as a TQ, especially when you can pack a SOF-TT down just as small as a SWAT-T.

  • @Davidow1
    @Davidow1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Still, this seems like a really good option for people with limited or no training as it's extremely straight forward.
    Imagine you being the wounded one and having to rely on your spouse or neighbours daughter and presenting them with a CAT while they are almost fainting just by seeing blood.

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The SWAT-T is harder to apply as a tourniquet for an untrained person, actually, because of the wrapping technique.
