Nope, you see, Germany was once divided in different kingdoms, like Bavaria, Saxony or Prussia. Prussia was parts of east-Germany, west-Poland and Kalinigrad (Back then Konigsberg). Prussia started to control the many other states until finally uniting them into the 2nd Reich.
My great-grandmother came from Memel (modern-day Klaipėda), and my great-granddad came from Königsberg (Kaliningrad). With great pride he wore his Pickelhaube where he fought and survived on the eastern front.

I have lost faith in people and their lack of study in history. It is one thing to learn about something from a show but to have NEVER heard of a Prussia before you watched a show is sad. This collection of states had been around for hundreds of years and was part of so much history in Europe.

I was in Munich; it was 1939 and the radio host had just announced that Germany declared war on Poland and was on it's way to restoring the glory of the German Empire, after which this song played. Everyone in the beer hall cheered and I partied with them, then the next morning I packed my bags and left for New York.

Why is everyone talking shit about Hetalia? The show was literally made as a joke about stereotypes. Besides that, Prussia is an awesome character in the show. Why are you angry that people are learning about Prussia through the anime? I mean, how else will they learn about Prussia? Is it weird that even though I'm technically Polish American I feel an affinity to Germany? My family comes from lands that were formerly occupied by Germans for many years (Danzig and Breslau). It's a very strange feeling, but when I see what has become of modern Germany I feel a deep sorrow in my heart. I can't stand seeing this once great people being taught to hate their heritage and allowing foreign invaders to destroy their culture. I love to collect German artifacts; recently I bought a WW1 era Luger P.08 and a WW2 era Mauser Pistole 1914/34. I just love the German army and the German people as well as their language, music and history. Hopefully one day I can find a nice authentic Prussian flag so I can hang it on my wall. I feel like because of the holocaust people have decided to throw away this beautiful German heritage in an attempt to start over. Of course I condemn the holocaust but I don't think it's a reason to forget how glorious Germany once was! I think German kinder should once again be taught how wonderful their country was and give them a reason to be proud and patriotic... not because of 'multiculturalism' but because they are German, and that means something!

My Great-Grandpa's parents were immigrants from West Prussia. My Great-Great Grandpa built his farm house in what is now Ann Arbor Michigan in the German Immigrant's community. And the Anthem is probably one of the best I have ever heard.

Unlike a fair few people here I did discover Prussia and Frederick the Great before the abomination of Hetalia. Probably due to my intense interest in military history and Prussia is a must know when it comes to the subject. However for me it does not matter how people discover this great European nation, even if it's through a very annoying anime (my personal opinion) Now to hell with this, I'm going to listen to some Koniggratzer march...
As both a history fan and a hetalia fan thisbpost amuses me too much! I love history I love learning about the past and mythology because it gives a look into our past to see how it shaped the present. Hetalia is goofy and however unavoidable does get people interested in history. I liked history waaay before I started watching it but I still learned a lot from it not by watching it but actually reading/learning about the topics that I had only ever heard about in the content of the show. Why is everyone talking shit about Hetalia? The show was literally made as a joke about stereotypes. Besides that, Prussia is an awesome character in the show. Why are you angry that people are learning about Prussia through the anime? I mean, how else will they learn about Prussia? Because of Hetalia, people are going and learning more about these countries. When I started watching Hetalia, I began to excel in History class. Instead of being butthurt about the way the anime portrays the countries, and the fans who want you to know why they're here (a lot of other people do it so you can't only blame them), maybe you should be glad that people are becoming interested in the world around them.

Just like you, I was curious about the Prussian anthem, and I knew Prussia existed from my History classes from when I was about 12/13 (I'm 20, now)but seeing Hetalia comments everywhere just makes me sick of it.
Even though I've been following Himaruya's web comic from the beginning (I discovered Hetalia in June 2008), seeing the fandom getting this rotten makes me sad. I hardly meet mature Hetalians that take time to think before overracting and checking if what is in Hetalia is really true or not. (there are many mistakes, mostly in the American dub, which changed many things in the dialogues.)
To most of people, it's all about shipping characters, mainly because the average age in the fandom is 13/15 and mot of them a freakin immature.
Hetalia used to be my little wonder nobody knew about. But now... I just want to hit my head against the wall when I see popular Hetalians on Tumblr.

Is it weird that even though I'm technically Polish American I feel an affinity to Germany? My family comes from lands that were formerly occupied by Germans for many years (Danzig and Breslau). It's a very strange feeling, but when I see what has become of modern Germany I feel a deep sorrow in my heart. I can't stand seeing this once great people being taught to hate their heritage and allowing foreign invaders to destroy their culture. I love to collect German artifacts; recently I bought a WW1 era Luger P.08 and a WW2 era Mauser Pistole 1914/34. I just love the German army and the German people as well as their language, music and history. Hopefully one day I can find a nice authentic Prussian flag so I can hang it on my wall. I feel like because of the holocaust people have decided to throw away this beautiful German heritage in an attempt to start over. Of course I condemn the holocaust but I don't think it's a reason to forget how glorious Germany once was! I think German kinder should once again be taught how wonderful their country was and give them a reason to be proud and patriotic... not because of 'multiculturalism' but because they are German, and that means something!

My Great-Grandpa's parents were immigrants from West Prussia. My Great-Great Grandpa built his farm house in what is now Ann Arbor Michigan in the German Immigrant's community. And the Anthem is probably one of the best I have ever heard.

Not German, Celtic peoples inhabited the island and later Angles, Saxons, Frisians and Jutes joined the mix. Those were Germanic tribes, but that's not the same as German.

Unlike a fair few people here I did discover Prussia and Frederick the Great before the abomination of Hetalia. Probably due to my intense interest in military history and Prussia is a must know when it comes to the subject. However for me it does not matter how people discover this great European nation, even if it's through a very annoying anime (my personal opinion) Now to hell with this, I'm going to listen to some Koniggratzer march...
As both a history fan and a hetalia fan thisbpost amuses me too much! I love history I love learning about the past and mythology because it gives a look into our past to see how it shaped the present. Hetalia is goofy and however unavoidable does get people interested in history. I liked history waaay before I started watching it but I still learned a lot from it not by watching it but actually reading/learning about the topics that I had only ever heard about in the content of the show. I want to thank you for this hilarious post though I respect your opinion but calling hetalia and "abomination" just cracked me up!
