"I live in a hologram with you" is like a punch to your soul. You realize all the blissful moments you've had with each other: all the late-night adventures sneaking out, kissing in someone else's bathroom, talking until the sun wakes up; are all just fleeting memories that will never be a part of reality. At the end of the day, you both come home to a house you hate and live a life you dread. It's always too good to be true.
For me its the fact that me and my friends can only interact in games, I play for hours with them trying to live a life that I want. Then my friends have to leave and the "blue" in my world fades away leaving me alone with the fact that my life is a shithole. That the life I want to live with my friends will never exist, that all of the happiness I get is from a fake world, and the real world would never feel the same.
my older sisters best friend, since childhood, was diagnosed with cancer in about highschool. she went through chemo therapy of course and all that went with it. she was a soccer player on the same team as my sister and they were her family. she was a legend. she beat cancer towards the end of highschool and went on to a nursing school because she wanted to help people. unfortunately, her cancer came back and she died before she got to graduate. everytime i listen to this song i start to cry because of this. i was young and barely knew anything about her, only that she and my sister were inseparable. my sister recently shaved her head in honor of her lost friend. i can’t help but think of them whenever i listen to this. it’s such a beautiful song, and truly can mean different things to different people. my sister lives on with her buzz cut for her best friend and i will stay crying to lorde songs.
So when I heard this song live. it literally changed my life. Lorde is explaining being a youth in the 21st century. having to cut your hair when you grow up... because you can't get a job with long hair. getting your cut during buzz cut season. the final act of your youth. the men on the news, covering only negativity to the public, she explains how hearing that changes your world, because when you are introduced to the horriors of the real world, the world all around you begins to change. She recalls her memories with her friends where nothing is wrong but nothing is true. The truth she sees is the explosions on TV, not what she does in her holographic world of being a teenager . She realizes how small her world is, and how small her experiences are such as, freedom, friendships, youth. because She understands that living it up with her friends by the pool is a fucking joke compared to the real fear out there, whether that's being a teenager fearing the loss of youth, or a teenager in Syria fearing being shot at or bombed. She is telling us, none of us are real here.. because we distract ourselves from the terror we all experience, and cover it up with trickery. Lorde feels everything, I think we all do... we just are afraid.
I understand your interpretation but lorde said herself that "buzzcut season" was a reference to man getting their haircut in new zealand during the summer so they wouldn't overheat

It's about living in the moment and being oblivious to everything that happens around you and in the world. Just hang out with your friends and be, nothing more, nothing less.
I'm 14 right now and Lorde announced her new single like a few hours ago. I was on Twitter and so many tweets were like, 'Lorde is coming back' and stuff. To be honest, I never listened to her music before. But after this, I just thought to give it a try and now it's 3am and I'm listening to all her music and I can't stop!! It's just so good!
Me llena de nostalgia y alegría leer algo así. Me recuerda a mí mismo cuando tenía tu edad y la empecé a escuchar. Ojalá hayas gozado este álbum y el Melodrama. ELLA es todo un viaje personal.
I don't know why, but this song is so relaxing to my brother, which has adhd and autism, whenever my parents are bot home during the night, I play it and he gets relaxed. I now am in love with this song.
The drums sound electronic, but the keys sound like a real piano/keyboard to me, just describe the texture and melody to be safe, if you can't make up your mind

@@ashara_rhaenys generic. That word is so damn apt and painful. Painful, because I never thought that the word "generic" is something that i can associate with Lorde's songs. Oh well, we'll see.
Yeah, there are so many amazing songs in Pure Heroine and The Love Club. It'll be interesting to see how she does at the Grammys but regardless, she's pure talent. Her music makes a lot of the sex/drinking/drugs/party themed music seem rather shallow, not that I dislike it, lol.
Gregg Cleland It's sort of in that genre, but i think it's more just teenagers in todays world, and what really goes on. It's a bit deeper if you look a bit deeper :D

I remember screaming this song with my childhood friend while driving down the freeway at night, not knowing what was happening, and barely what the lyrics meant. Now I’m older I realise that this song truly sums up my life as a teenager in the world today. We know our perfect put together life is a lie, we distract ourselves from the misery of the world.
God, I love this woman, and I love this song. I could listen to this song, on repeat, for the rest of my life and never would it grow old. Your mileage may vary.
I remember lying on the sofa around 4 am and listening to this song on loop. At that time, i was very sad and scared as my father was in hospital and my mother usually stayed there. He passed away few months ago and now whenever i listen to this song, his memory flashes past me and i get tearful.
I first heard this song at Hollister when I was 14/15. I was waiting in line for the dressing rooms and I pressed against the wall. The music was pretty loud and I felt the bass down my back. I got chills and fell in love with this song. 7 years later and I still love it. I'll never forget that moment. Thank you for this.

This song is so honest, so powerful, so striking it nearly makes me cry the normality of it just opens you up. Just makes your heart beat faster, your mind race while your head is full of thoughts, your stomach fluttering with anxiety but that's okay.. Because you feel like you just want to cry but that's okay. It means you can relate, you have compassion. Yet you are scared

(sorry this was so long im just concerned)bo white
Thank you! I don't know much about what anxiety must feel like, but I never have panic attacks, or breathing problems, or anything like that. I guess a certain stress is always there, never leaving, but I don't know if that's related to any disorder. The only thing that I've found really weird was this feeling that I'd get every now and then, that the world isn't real. It's not so often now, like barely ever, but it'd been happening for years, and I just didn't know what it was. And even when I searched on the internet, I only found one link, where it said that it could be a side effect of anxiety or depression, or something like that - pretty vague
This whole album reminds me of the summer I was 12 and had the most tremendous crush on this boy a couple years older staying with us at the beach. The feeling of driving 5 hours back home and knowing I’ll never see him or get that feeling back. I’m nearly 20 now and have still not felt this. Maybe it dies as you age
Lorde has a way of portraying youth in a no bullshit kind of way. She spills it how it is, a messy kind of time where everything feels so far away. She doesn't romanticize it, she tells it straight.
Lorde is one of the most talented artists I ever heard of. Her music is amazing. It's strange, and hard to explain what I mean but it digs under your skin, makes you think about things. She's got a gift. Her lyrics are different, it's different than any music I've ever heard. But they relate to things in some strange way that I can't explain because I never thought someone could do that with just words, just a song. All of her songs give me a weird feeling, it's not bad, but it's ...different. Her lyrics make me sad, emotional, they bring sad memories to mind, but also they can make me smile, feel amazing, and make me think of the happiest times ever. I've personally never seen another artist that does what she does with music, and there are a lot of good artists out there. But this, what she does with music, is unique and absolutely amazing. She constantly has me in awe of her talent. Definitely my favorite artist by far.
This song is very special to me, even after Melodrama its still my favorite song of her. All the emotions i felt listening to that song. I was lost, scared, and so confused at 14 -15 years old. I remember thinking i wouldn’t survive my teenage years. I attempted suicide two times and I lost contact with my childhood best friends in one year. My parents fought a lot, i didn’t talk to anyone bout my issues. Hearing this now at 21 hits different. I evolved and I opened more than i ever could. I made it.
that’s heavy stuff. i’m so proud of you for making it, it’s so hard to get through teenage years as i’m learning,, and it’s amazing hearing that it’s possible to make it out and still be a human.
don’t know but Lorde writes timeless songs. Pure Heroine and Melodrama never gets old on an infinite loop. Listening to them since they were released. 😊

SkyDoesMinecraft's Pumpkin Hunt video :D Unless he stole it from someone else...
Now that I think about it, how can I like both Sky and Lorde :l
Naaah it's just a joke that's all over adels songs hahahahaahah
Ah, that might be where it originated then, possibly
play this song at the highest volume
you can literally feel the bass thumping in your heart along with your heartbeat and you can feel the lyrics as if the sound is coming from inside you.
or maybe its just me
not just you.
Yasssssssss thank you
The Purple Weirdo hope I feel it too😌
Would, but I am trying to go to bed, lol

Good God I miss her music. I wish we could rewind like 3 years, the music that was coming out around that time was AMAZING!
I agree completely. She is working on a new Album though according to her and it's due to be released soon. That'll be a refreshing experience for sure
The Groovy Guitar Dude - Daily Guitar Lessons yep
soon we'll have a new Lorde album
ITS OUT
Why do you _miss_ her music if it's available 24/7 for free?
It's about living in the moment and being oblivious to everything that happens around you and in the world. Just hang out with your friends and be, nothing more, nothing less.
Actually, it's about war.
E r r o r nope, read some of her interviews.
True True very True
Anyone can interpret it anyway they see fit to. I'm sure Lorde wouldn't disagree that he/she has a right to his/her opinion. ^.^
I like that explanation
I'm 14 right now and Lorde announced her new single like a few hours ago. I was on Twitter and so many tweets were like, 'Lorde is coming back' and stuff. To be honest, I never listened to her music before. But after this, I just thought to give it a try and now it's 3am and I'm listening to all her music and I can't stop!! It's just so good!
Me llena de nostalgia y alegría leer algo así. Me recuerda a mí mismo cuando tenía tu edad y la empecé a escuchar. Ojalá hayas gozado este álbum y el Melodrama. ELLA es todo un viaje personal.
what you think about solar power?
@@lorenz2418 To be honest, I'll hold my judgment till the album comes out.
So glad you started to listen! This album came out when I was around your age. Lovely to see more and more people get into Lorde!
I LOVE IT
Probably the best song on the album.
Well, maybe it's the best song, but I think that more is better "glory and Gore" that song is really beautiful and artistic, rather the whole cd * u *

I don't know why, but this song is so relaxing to my brother, which has adhd and autism, whenever my parents are bot home during the night, I play it and he gets relaxed. I now am in love with this song.
That's really beautiful
Maddy Chelmis Thanks.
Chong Simpson Thank you for the encouraging words, to others you are someone just know that you are.
That's so sweet
that's great
She was generations ahead of her time

@@mong4491 She never did?
Such a great album, and this is probably my favourite track
I'm writing a paper for school. Could you please list me the instruments used in this song? In particular is she using the SYNTH??
+Euan Beercan yea
+Euan Beercan (IndieGangsta) I would also like to know
The drums sound electronic, but the keys sound like a real piano/keyboard to me, just describe the texture and melody to be safe, if you can't make up your mind
Side note, I'd say there is a synth for the bassline, if you hear closely, it's subtle, but audible
Is she really 18 ??? She's extremely lyrical !!
Ya and she was like 15/16 when she wrote the song
***** Age doesn't matter when you've got the skills. I have a brother, who at 15, formed a band and released charted songs in my country. He's 25 now.

it's been three years since this album was released and i still listen to it regularly
this entire album reminds me of autumn and winter, which is great because the rest of the music i listen to is definitely more summer-y
I can't believe this is all from three years ago.
Cashed in..... I'm disappointed with her..................
Joanna Zhao whoa I thought this was a new song
Joanna Zhao yes same same same
I was 19 years old when this song came out, now I’m 26. Pure Herorin was my favorite album back in 2014, all I listened to back then was lorde. Man time really flies! It’s scary
Same! I was 19 and I’m turning 27 this year. I can’t believe it’s been so long. It really does scare me how quickly time goes by.
Same 😀 and i am going to be 27 in july
Same!
Honestly I want to cry my soul out to this song because it reminds me of a time that was much simpler and much more fulfilling.
Sadly, same here
Same I was 20 when this album was released and I’m currently about to turn 26 this year. And hearing this song just brings me back to a simpler time in my life.

I've been vibing to Pure Heroine and Melodrama a lot lately. She is coming back soon, I can feel it. I'm so ready for her new era.
you were right :)
dude u literally predicted it
she's come back. and listening to this masterpiece depressed the fuck outta me. the songs from the new album have been disappointing and are trash in comparison to this song. I'm depressed thinking what could've been if lorde and jack antonoff never worked together. damn...
@@Justlilmonster yeah I get it, I like her new songs so far, but I do feel like it's not as energetic and vibrant as her past work. I guess I was expecting something explosive and brilliant like 400 lux, team, perfect places or green light, and even though I knew her new record would have a more phsycedelic vibe, I didn't expect it to be that simple and generic... but let's wait until the rest of the album comes out.
@@ashara_rhaenys generic. That word is so damn apt and painful. Painful, because I never thought that the word "generic" is something that i can associate with Lorde's songs. Oh well, we'll see.
lorde has been in the music industry for like 15 minutes and she already slays everyone else out there
but of course shes not the only one
Yeah, there are so many amazing songs in Pure Heroine and The Love Club. It'll be interesting to see how she does at the Grammys but regardless, she's pure talent. Her music makes a lot of the sex/drinking/drugs/party themed music seem rather shallow, not that I dislike it, lol.
Gregg Cleland It's sort of in that genre, but i think it's more just teenagers in todays world, and what really goes on. It's a bit deeper if you look a bit deeper :D
She's probably gonna "die" soon. Remember Ke$ha? She was fake too, same as Lorde. Ke$ha paid for it, let's see Lorde. :/
but Lorde has the best songs that have an ACTUAL meaning. especially royals. and artists dont die. they just make mistakes but people will still love them. Ognian UridiumWars

@@xenomorph778 exactly. Melodrama is great but Pure Heroine is a religious experience
Buzzcut Season
400 Lux
and Tennis Court are my three favorite songs of all time, in that order.
Glory & Gore being fourth, of course ;)

I remember lying on the sofa around 4 am and listening to this song on loop. At that time, i was very sad and scared as my father was in hospital and my mother usually stayed there. He passed away few months ago and now whenever i listen to this song, his memory flashes past me and i get tearful.

I love her lows, her voice is straight outta heaven
actually a crazy range, her highs are super pretty too
I first heard this song at Hollister when I was 14/15. I was waiting in line for the dressing rooms and I pressed against the wall. The music was pretty loud and I felt the bass down my back. I got chills and fell in love with this song. 7 years later and I still love it. I'll never forget that moment. Thank you for this.

it kissed your scalp and caressed your brain
well you laughed, baby it's okay
it's buzz cut season anyway
explosions on TV, and all the girls with heads inside a dream
so now we live beside the pool, where everything is good
we ride the bus with the knees pulled in
people should see how we're living
shut my eyes to the song that plays
sometimes this has a hot, sweet taste
the men up on the news, they try to tell us all that we will lose
but it's so easy in this blue, where everything is good
and i'll never go home again (place the call, feel it start)

i live in a hologram with you
where all the things that we do for fun (and i'll breathe, and it goes)

explosions on TV, and all the girls with heads inside a dream
so now we live beside the pool, where everything is good

I still can't believe that she wrote this song when she was 16. This song is so fucking deep and amazing! She really is the queen of alternative. Pure Heroine is my favorite album ever.
This comment is literally everything. You were on point about everything that this song does to a person who can relate to things like this..
+Leigha J Have you ever considered being a writer? This was the first time I've heard this song (I don't get out much) but your description of your feelings while you're listening to it is so beautifully written.

i still listen to all of her songs even after all those years, ribs, buzzcut season, tennis court, my god, her album is and will always be my favorite.
I have an anxiety disorder and sometimes I think life isnt real, this song makes me feel better
Hey, can you tell me what the name of the disorder is? I might have it too.
.
i have generalized anxiety disorder. im sorry to hear that you might have it, but if you think you do and this continues for 6 months or more then I suggest you go to a psychiatrist or even your family doctor (preferably a psychiatrist) and get a diagnoses and maybe medication. please dont self-diagnose though, because you could very well have something else. best of luck!!!

HOW DID YOU KNW
Caught me :(
Lorde has a way of portraying youth in a no bullshit kind of way. She spills it how it is, a messy kind of time where everything feels so far away. She doesn't romanticize it, she tells it straight.
I forgot how good this album is. Every song is great.
Correctamundo 💯🪖🪖😈
This is my favorite track from "Pure Heroine". It's got such a addicting melody.
And the lyrics are gorgeous.
Lorde's music is so tranquil i swear.

They are literally amazing :D Bravado and Swinging Party along with Buzzcut Season are my favourite :)

And she sang both of those at Coachella :).
The movie Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes brought me back to this song. Reminds me so much of the dynamic between Coriolanus and Lucy’s characters.
Hearing this now
at 21 hits different. I evolved and I opened more than i ever could. I made it.
that’s heavy stuff. i’m so proud of you for making it, it’s so hard to get through teenage years as i’m learning,, and it’s amazing hearing that it’s possible to make it out and still be a human.
❤️ sending love

This album was such a reset. All songs are so beautiful and evoke such nostalgic feelings.
Lorde pure heroine
That, ladies and gentlemen was a trip!
Came here to remind you: LORDE IS THE ARTIST OF OUR GENERATION. SOONER OR LATER EVERYONE WILL UNDERSTAND IT.
I remember when I first heard this song, I was 14 and every day before school I'd ask my mum to drop me off in the park next to my school so I could have some time to myself just to listen to this song before my day began. I did that for around 2 months. This song holds such a special place in my heart.
