Like really is 2 different songs like at the beginning like 4 seconds .. the band version who ever came up with that is like .. idk how to explain it but this Al song seems like in a major scale and the trombone one is a minor scale with a lot more black and blues, kills it
Like this song is okay but they only share like 3 seconds all else I feel is so much different I truly believe it's probably something like that major to minor scale thing
I don't think anyone genuinely knew this song all them comments was cap especially you g folks how tf they know about this song... Was it used in a anime or something 😂
Who would have known that this song would get revitalised by William Bilal and Benedict University. Big ups to the marching band for covering this classic.
Man ain't no way this is the same song as that Bomb Ass Trumbone Solo... William Bilel had that thing singing n crying. Damn they need make a 2024 version of this song. ❤🔥💯🎶🎶
That young man William bilal murdered this song. On a trombone.. and I’ve been trying to find the real song.. I’ll listen to the trombonist play this over and over
Hear me out Mister Al, I just didn’t get enough soul out of this. You’re great but I know a guy that would absolutely tie this song together with a trombone solo.
STRONGLY AGREE!!! Tbh, I was surprised that THIS song was the source of Wil’s SLAUGHTERHOUSE PERFORMANCE!!! He took this nugget and made it into a WHOLE DAMN GRAND CANYON OF SOULFULNESS … basically it’s ABSOLUTE PERFECTION.. hopefully Al will find a way to thank him for that hehe ✌🏾🙏🏾
I wonder who listened to this and said,”That’s it‼️That’s the song that every HBCU & Highschool will perform in their marching bands❗️” Cause we all played the mess out of this. I never heard the original until today 🤣. Now I want to find the originals to all the ones we performed
Black and blues has been played since this song has come out back in the day by Black high school bands and HBCUs. It is nit new to us. William Bilal has done the best job with it since back in the day. He and his band members can play anything❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

I ❤ that the internet bas helped so many people get introduced to you Al Jarreau. Your music was on repeat in my house growing up. I thank my mom to introducing me to you and Will Bilal for putting his stank on this song.
Al Jarreau will always be remembered as one of the Top Music Sonic LA Sound era. Unique, special, original, full of groove and playing. Bless your soul man. Today’s music has not a fraction of what happened in the 80’s.
@@arsinclair I was hoping for this comment, thank you! We just gotta open our eyes, there's so much undiscovered, surprisingly beautiful music out there
Got to here after seeing a post about a young man that passed in my hometown. While going through his facebook page to learn about him, I saw he had share William Bilal at BC. Thank you Nate and my you rest in peace.
Ima be very honest, i thought the trumbone solo was a gospel song it sounded so sweet and fed you like something straight from God, that man is very talented
That trombone player made this song his own.. I say he needs to bring this song back to life. I’ll write the song remake just saying☝️play that bone boy!!!
How did that kids trombone solo rendition make you feel, Al? You're music inspired some extremely talented kids to run with it. That beautiful rendition is still floating around social media years later.
I remember my trombone section in high school (1999-2003) playing this but this is the very first time I heard the original. I went searching for it because of Wil Bilal’s masterful transposition!!!!
Dope track! The trombone solo brought me here ❤️ I might be reaching, but this song sounds strinkingly similar to Michael Jackson's "Leave Me Alone." I thought maybe Quincy Jones was the producer of both, but not the case. Maybe it's just me
Yes... im here after that Trombone solo also... and what ive learned is William Bilal is a god damn musical genius because i didnt hear ANY of that solo in here🤨
Those sublime guitar parts by none other than Jay Graydon still manages to induce goose bumps even after all these years. Thank you Mr. Graydon, for the impeccable and timeless production.
It is fucking amazing when we truly have artist that can take inspiration and add their creativity to enhance and embrace the music even more so, while adding a twist that makes it their own!! Celebration without theft, honoring the Originals. I dig this so much.
I discovered Al Jarreau's music not too long ago, Wow! I'm so glad I did, his music is.....there's nothing like it. I wish I could've gone to his concert and met him. I will forever be listening to your music Al.

Truly talent.
Only a true visionary would hear this and see its potential for a trombone solo 🔥
Not really it sounds like the trim one in the song. Jus have to have some appreciation.
@crookedstraightmedia4140 nah he's right. I don't even hear the bone from this song. That arrangement for the trombone is NUTS

Quincy did make some unbelievable statements. In one of the interviews I recall him saying "Notes don't lie."
Does sound similar to Mike👍🏽
