My son was singing this song at age 3, his little voice rising at " touch the face of God". Next month he turns 44 and I'm going to send him this video, it will mean so much to him as it does me. Thank you Al, you gave us a priceless gift ❤R.I.P❤
@Alexandra-K9
Dear Alexandra ,
I was 21 when I saw this Video in German TV...Touch my 💖
In Love💛 for
Al Jarreau 🌅
@thomaswunsch4037 I loved the jazz music from the 80's and 90s. I will listen to it the rest of my life as it makes life sweeter and more tolerable like an anesthetic :)
The best part, for sure!
Yes, I love that crescendo🎵
as a parent I can relate to such moments
In the late 80's, my father use to play this every single morning for me while he drove me to school. Then we listened to a mixture of Al Jarreau and Anita Baker. I was infatuated with their voices and their scatting talents.
God, I wish Black music with a soul and positivity still existed today. But I'll always have the 80's
Likewise
I´m sorry to say that not only the black music suffers with the lack of soul and positivity.
Wouldn´t be better call it just "music" instead of put it into boxes?
I think he was supposed to be tripping on acid in this video. The song is beautiful and great. Unlike music today.
Cool!
It likely does exist but it's simply harder to find and isn't promoted by mainstream radio.
Is music this positive even allowed anymore ?
NEEDED, it’s needed
Good Question
So so beautiful and harmonious and innocent ❤
Sitting in the dealership while my vehicle is serviced…listening, nodding my head, smiling at everyone who passes by, and the tears welled up in my eyes. We can all still choose positivity.

This is when music was music...period.

wow, it's 85 and I'm on the school bus, or riding around town with my moms running errands, just a little dude. Warm and fuzzy amidst some hard times
His music lives on in 2024! One of the all-time greats!!
yesss!! ❤
" I know I can like any man reach out my hand and touch the face of God"... Wow what a lyric...
ORiginally from the "HIgh Flight" poem.
This video is probably exactly how AL Jarreau went to Heaven
This video is how I will always remember him.
+Jerome Wendell I can't stop crying thinking about all the times my mother used to play his music when I was a little guy.
I get emotional as well. My mom has passed on and she played this a lot too. Sigh....I sure miss her. Take care.
LOVE this comment!
I'm right there with you guys! Tomorrow is the anniversary of my Mom's passing. She liked Al Jerraeu, George Michael. ! I remember being surprised she knew who they were. Thought she was strictly old school. then there she was grooving to Al Jerraeu!!
I didn't appreciate this song when I was a ten-year-old during the time of it's release. But, I'm glad God allowed me to grow over the years and love it!❤
2023 still sounds amazing. Will never get old! ❣
Amazing timeless song. Love and blessings ❤😇
Right right, was listening to Christmas music yesterday and my uncle sent me Al Jarreau singing Silent Night ✌🏽
June 2023 ❤
I'm with you on that one 🙂
Still makes me tap my foot❤
Texas, July 2023
I was site manager of an outdoor venue near St. Louis when Al came there for a show in 1979. Our secretary was in the office with staff coming and going. She was a huge fan of his (as are many, myself included) but she couldn't get away to go watch even one song.
After the show I explained how much he meant to her and how her lyrics inspired her. I told him she could not come down and asked if he would go visit her.
He rode with me on the golf cart 1/2 a mile to the office. Signed a picture which I took in and handed her and she was so thrilled and in tears. Then he knocked on the door and came in.
She lost it. He said hello, shook her had, kissed her cheek as he was leaving and even sang a couple of verses to her.
That is the kind of man Al Jarreau was.
Renita Fowler, I hope you are still with us and well.
Touching story, thank you for sharing.
Wow. No wonder he was able to put such feeling into his singing.
SHARPER IMAGES wow
❤️
Awesome! ♥️😎
Damn I miss such positive, uplifting, feel good music like this.
If there's ever a time where we needed music like this, it certainly is now..
Me three
@LeJon Leonard Why do you say that?
Yes, what happened? Most music is depressing and/or negative now.
Just the sound was uplifting such simpler times *sigh*
When he hits that high note - "touch the face of God" - I just shiver. Just beautiful!
Oh me too!!!
Those harmonic layers of power... I totally agree. I always wait in anticipation for that part (although I love the rest of the song too 😄)
I just saw what you commented on, he was a true talent.
That part always touches my heart, misty eyes and gives me goosebumps too! I was able to see him live in 2006 and he was perfect! ❤️🎶
With you on that !!! That part is really something !!! It's the little fade out I think...kinda leaves its effect before going into the solo.
Hello everyone who is still listening of Al Jarreau 2023??😁🎶
So much positivity in this classic. The world needs to hit the replay button on this right now.
Ain't that the truth my brother...we need a reset button.
And keep hitting it! :)
TRUE THAT!
I cannot just listen to this just once...it's usually 4-5 times in a row...
This song always cheers me up...

People often ask what your favorite song is- How is that possible to answer? But I come back to this time and again. I saw him at Jazz Fest in New Orleans on a lark and it was the best show ever. This song, this song will never fail to lift my mood, to put me in the place i need to be. And when I watch video of him, I am reminded that "cool" isn't king, that love, exuberance, attitude and excitement is king.
I know that I can like any man reach out my hand and touch the face of God🙏🏽🔥
Never knew what he was saying as a kid but I always loved this song and this video! Touch the face of God! Wow!

And now he DOES get to touch the face of God. What a sweet soul! I'm so grateful he left such wonderful music behind.

Very well said Sir Luis. I adore there's no this gen musics great than classics. I'm really happy my parents raised me listening to classic songs.
Let us all pray for the 67 people who have no concept of good music. How on earth is is even possible to dislike this song?! There are just so many happy feels from it! Although, I think the voice track might have been mixed a bit better. Still... happy feels!
+cattybound2011 Dear Catty, perhaps they didn't dislike this (beautiful) song per se, may be some of those dislikes come from very far back away in time, when that song was playing, and they had some serious and bitter moments in their existences, one never knows. I can say this because I was one of those tormented souls in those distant times and I used to relate it to many hardships I was going through, the difference is I overcame it, and today I love it.
+cattybound2011 I'd rather pray for the one person who can't handle opinions that differ from their own.

"I think the voice track might have been mixed a bit better" :-)
You do get that this music vid dates back to a time where gimmicks where in short supply. That said, I concur...how can anyone dislike this bit of feelgoodness

There will never be another singer like The Early Mr. Al Jareau.😢 surely missed but his music a life time of Great Songs.Thankyou GOD FOR SUCH A ONE.GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY.
I say the same, friend, he may have died but his music will never die.
I remember when this song came out either late 70's or the 80's, but it was such a pleasant tune. I sure hope Mr. Jarraeu found Jesus, before he died.
During the 80’s, every dentist office in America had this playing!

This song was to calm the patients down from the horror that was about to occur with the dental instruments :)
Yeeees!
I miss kind of music, I wish I was born in that old school time of music, cause this kind of music just makes feel happy to be alive, no cursing or any of that nonsense, just a man talking about the morning.
Brandon M It was the early 80's. Not exactly "old school".
The early 80s was over 30 years ago. Safe to say its "old school" the younger generation, unfortunately.

@Will Rich Al Jarreau was celebrated . However their was a time in the music industry when his music was not appreciated by industry people and didn't promote his music here in the U. S. He was always celebrated & appreciated all over other parts of the world. If you know anything about music industry in the U.S. Then you know how fickle it is it's all about what they think sells&Labels & Marketing. Al Jarreau maintained his following of fans. The music industry tried to put him in a box here. That's what's I meant by underrated I was speaking from an industry perspective! Hope that clarifies it for you. Peace!
Oh yes he was underrated, they weren’t ready for him. They didn’t know where he fit in.
The world has become so bitter and fearful. These were much better days for sure. Love this!!!

7-1-23 my brother who has ALS asked me to play this for him today❤️🙏🏾
This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
There are many singers, but only a fraction of them use their voices as musical instruments, and only a fraction of those achieve the level of virtuoso - and Mr. Jarreau was in that latter fraction. He proved with this track that he was the preeminent voice of modern pop jazz in the 1980s.
I was in high school when this track was released as a single; I'd heard other jazz tracks beforehand, but I didn't really have a clue about jazz as a musical genre until I heard this track.
Nostalgia is so bitter sweet. Bad things have always been happening in this world but this tune is from an era that really was a special time, the 80s. This song sums up the great spirit of enjoyment & freedom you could feel, unlike now. Life is what you make it but I'd love to go back. Ok, new edit, I couldn't resist it, it's 1am & I just had to get up & dance, with my eyes closed. So I did go back, ahhhh the memories 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
