    There is just nothing like these videos. I am an avid cyclist, I often ride up to 100 miles at a time. Its so refreshing to see someone appreciating the little things that you sometimes experience on the road but cant really explain the beauty of to the naked eye. Best TH-cam channel ever!

    You Ryan are the king of positivity. 2 seconds after your belt snaps you are smiling and thinking positive thoughts. Thanks for busting out and hugging that old tree. I would have done the same thing. Old trees like that deserve respect. Especially that one that survives in solitude. Even if it didn't go as expected. You still provide a lesson on how to handle a disappointing situation.

    No spare belt Ryan? *shakes head* ;) We have all been there I'm sure! I'm a chain man myself and always carry a spare as well as a link, you just never know the minute! 101 mile ride today so I wouldn't want to be caught 50 miles from home! Loved this series, so many great people including yourself of course!

    It's a good reminder that while the belt drives are amazing tech, and probably 1000x more reliable than a chain, they're not indestructible and it's important to have a backup. Thanks for sharing another great adventure Ryan.

    Thank you for sharing all the ups and downs of this trip. This was one of the most difficult trips you have every had and you champion through it all with a smile. I would have given up at the mud, but you washed it off and continued on. It is amazing how the trail will always provide and the kind heartiness of people. Keep on biking and hope to see you at Ragbrai.

    Hey Ryan, if you see this, thanks for making such great content! you helped inspire me to go on my current bike tour. It seems like something goes wrong every day, but I'm meeting great people who help me out so often. You help me keep a positive mindset and a stay prepared. Now I must try to keep my things dry because it's storming outside my tent.

    I’ve done the walk of shame with a broken belt as well. However, I’ve broken one belt over 15 years of belt drives but have broken a few chains so there’s that.

    Glad to see another "mature" woman on the trail. It does help to have someone to share it with. My husband and I are riding the GDMBR south from Whitefish this week to Silverthorne. We did part of it in 2019 and can't wait for this ride.

    This makes me think it might become a “best practice” to have someone, who’s not an eternal optimist, go through your list of “must-have” and emergency equipment. I’d even consider having some medical professional check out the list for some must-have emergency medical provisions as well. It might even make for an interesting video, or two. Here’s hoping you’re now eternally free from future whammies!

    Dear Ryan, Amazing adventure!!! I love that you showed the world there can be adventure in even the " bad things are happening," make the best of the trips you do!!! I had sooo many hitck ups along my bike tour across the US and Canada two summers ago and did not finish via the bike. I did though get a chance two times to ride trains and that was an adventure in it's own! I am doing a talk at my local bike ship in a few weeks about my tour and this trip really hit home that I will stress to all who listen to me that mis-adventures are part of why we all should do it in the first place! Biulds as a better people andddd see the kindness andddd love of amazing people we meet!!!!

    Wow bummer! It was great video content though. I'd like to do the GMDR for sure -- but will probably be content to carry a spare derailleur hanger and repair kit for my chain on the old Jamis Dragonslayer. Buck up! It's not the end of anything but the beginning. Let's ride! #Durango

    It's taken me a long time to reply to this video. This is probably my favorite video you've done ever and I've watched a lot of them. The reason is that, you're like super hero to me. You go on incredible runs, travel to amazing places and ride your bike in amazing places incredible distances. I can barely walk a hundred steps. You're an incredible inspiration to me. Seeing that things don't always go your way, that you can be frustrated and say a bad word, they make you more human and I feel closer to you. When I try to ride my bicycle and fall off twice like I did last weekend, seeing how you cope with your whammy, helps me to cope with mine. I don't think less of you for this video, I think more. Keep being awesome.

    Carry more water, don’t rely totally on your invincibleness. The empty container is not a real burden in areas of plenty.

    can confirm anything above 75f is quite hot and anything below around 0 to -8f is somewhat cold. ey canadians?

    Great series, thanks for sharing. I think with the parts supply shortage these days it has become even more important to have everything with you that might put a stop to your ride, really cant fault you for the belt though these are supposed to go on for ever.

    I just camped for 10 days up near Beaverhead. I met one bike-packer and a few CDT thru-hikers. Usually see only one or two humans on the lonely gravel roads. Saw a wolf and tons of elk. @10:38 looks like Burnt Cabin Flat in the Black Range not far from the Beaverhead Work Center. I have ridden most of the Forest Roads (on a Yamaha TW-200).

    Such a bummer, Ryan. I am starting the Great Divide in a few weeks on a belt drive bike. I have a spare belt (Priority was the only place I could find one) that I have been contemplating whether or not to bring it. I know my answer now. They are meant to be so reliable. Very curious what caused it. I hope I get the update before I leave! Your content is inspiring and helpful...Thanks! Hit me up if you are in town. I'll buy you a burrito, or two, before I head out.

    Hi Ryan, 😊 I have a suggestion, please, if you don’t mind. What from I have heard, you should focus on the things that you wish, and not on the things you don’t wish, according to the Law of Attraction. For example, instead of thinking “ I don’t want debt”, focus on “I want prosperity”. Instead of “no whammies”, maybe something like “lots of good luck!”. 🤷‍♂️😀

    I'm not sold on your drive train at all. My chain broke a few weeks ago and I fixed it right there on the side of the road with a chain tool and a master link. Plus, bike shops carry new chains..... But, your belt is light. It would have been easy to carry a spare. It's got that going for it. However, a master link is still much lighter and not bulky at all.

    I'm thinking that priority needs to come up with a clever belt guard to keep the mud out of the drivetrain and to keep the belt from getting micro cuts from abrasions... thorn punctures... And to keep the sun off

    First, I'm watching the belt videos in reverse so I've already seen the interview with Dave. With that in mind I'll save my belt drive comments for that video. Next is...I don't know if Mama Duzer gave you an earful but even if she did you're about to get it from me (insert folded arm, one eyebrow raised while patting one foot in disapproval emoji).
    Duzer....WHERE THE HELL WAS YOUR EMERGENCY TRANSPONDER⁉️ Don't get me wrong if I was uninjured and super strong bodied the way you are (partially why the belt failed), I would have walked out the bike too. But my point is simple, you're leg could have been snapped or worse...the single track could have been one of thoes "mountain goat" steep edge of cliff type trail.
    Duzer...bro...you gotta keep emergency communication with you no matter what. I just emailed you about a woman killed as she slept by a grizzly in Montana AT A CAMPSITE YOU WERE AT not that long ago. They are called emergencies because you don't expect them to happen. Okay, I'm done fussing at you. I'm glad you're safe. 😁

    Drone shot at 10:40 is just professional type shit (along with other ground shots)! Easy to forget you dont have a camera crew following you.

    Hey Ryan, could you do a session on pinion gearbox? Never heard about this until I started viewing your site which is remarkably well done btw. I heard about you through some ragbrai tubers.     Sorry Duzer, that’s a tough one. Did you have any thoughts about calling Dave at Priority and having him overnight you a belt and then you could have finished the ride? Anyway , great series. We are stopping in Pie Town in a few weeks on our way taking our son to college in Las Cruses!!

    Don't you have a Garmin InReach to send/receive emergency messages? No way I'd go out without one now that they exist (luckily have never needed it...yet).

    Always carry spares. Even with chain I carry chain links incase.

    Damn that's good stuff. You failed! And in so doing reminded us that it's only adventure if there isn't a safety net. There has to be risk for it to feel real. Even a trip up and down New Mexico can be epic. We don't control the outcome, only the way we perceive it. My girlfriend and I are currently crossing the country (bicycles). The threat of failure is real. There are things beyond our control. I dread the thought that something could come along and force us to end this prematurely. But even if it did, I would still have these memories and experiences. Peace brother.
