  • An african cichlid (White Labidochromis) was eaten alive by ten wild red bellied piranhas (Pygocentrus Nattereri) in a 75 gallon planted tank. The cichlid had lost one of his eyes, so became a feeder.

    dear god, im a snake guy and i dont really have a problem with live feeding snakes and many other animals/fish, and im not particularly sensitive to brutal videos, but this one got to me, that poor fuckin fish couldve easily gotten away from the piranhas but he kept hitting the walls of the aquarium, seems like a pretty horrific way to die trapped in a box full of piranhas

      @kharsagi 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      MichaelVick I mean, his piranhas look healthy and fantastic, don't get me wrong, but that's just an awful way to treat a living fish, much less such a rare-coloured lab. If fish stores actually knew half of the places their fish were going they probably wouldn't sell any in the first place XD

      @jesselukes5796 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see where you're coming from, and it is a nice looking fish, and I wouldn't do it either, but I'm sure you can buy some cheap feeders for this kind of stuff right?

    • @kharsagi
      @kharsagi 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jesse Lukes I personally would never give feeders bought from the store to predatory fish, they are all diseased and pet stores don't give a crap about them and keep them in really awful environments. They're cheap and in that way worth less, but they go through the same amount of pain as that white lab would. The problem is they hunt and kill fish in the wild anywho, but is it really natural for us to raise and cruelly keep feeders and buy them for this purpose? I don't know, it's kind of a grey area, but a lot of people do it and have success with their fish. And a lot of fish get sick from eating diseased feeder fish. The best thing is really dead shrimp and clams and things from the store rather than live fish in my opinion, but everyone has different ones so there's that.

    • @Pray4Mojo1
      @Pray4Mojo1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Feeder fish are horrific. There's hardly any nutritional value at all and they're full of diseases. A home made food out of beef heart, shrimp, fish,etc is much better for them.

    Fascinating.... not only the piranhas respect the oscars and vice versa, they seem to also not target the smaller cichlids on the lower level... they must've recognized them as tankmates instead

    • @Constantine_Cvl8
      @Constantine_Cvl8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They really only actively attack if they're hungry or cornered, so it's not really suprising.
      They're in a safe tank with no potential predators since they are large enough to not be eaten by the oscars, in a large school, probably with daily feedings and good water quality, they would pretty much be large carnivourous neon tetras.
      Though I must say, those oscars have shredded fins, very typical when piranhas are nearby, you can even see it happening in the wild.

    • @Constantine_Cvl8
      @Constantine_Cvl8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really, the only reason that I could think of as to why they attacked the mbuna is because it was colored white, signaling to the piranhas that there's an open wound on a fish, or that it is a random floating piece of meat.

    How did they not mistaken ur other malawi cichlids as food?!? If u lets say scoop a fish out and dump it back in, will the other fish attack it?

    • @cicekbaris
      @cicekbaris  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If any fish is taken out and put back in to the tank, piranhas doesn't attack it, because there will be no odour difference. Piranhas' wildness based on odour difference for their sensitive nose nerves. When a new fish is put in to the tank, piranhas attack it because of different odour.

    Aww. Animals doing what they do in the wild offends people because it's in a tank? How come nobody cries for the fish fed to Shamu and Tilikum?? Because they're frozen and dead? Give me a break. Excellent video and awesome tank Pax.

  • @Flow_boi
    @Flow_boi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I usually knock out my goldfish before feeding them to the turtles, I just hold it in my palm and flick my middle finger on top of its head as hard as I can, they still move because of the nerves and the fish doesn’t suffer as much
