- Will they condemn our dream? Restoring a 200 year old cottage.
You can find @phillyandkeely here / @phillyandkeely They go on some truly amazing van life adventures and their videos are incredibly well filmed and put together, definitely worth a watch!
After what already feels like weeks of demolition and clearing out, this week we are exposing the 200 year old walls, specifically the old fireplace and chimney in the cottage kitchen.
We seek advice from a specialist to see if we can even retain it, we get a large truck stuck up our narrow lane, there's a hospital visit for one of us and progress on the off grid barn continues with some help from our friends @phillyandkeely
Every week of renovations at our remote cottage in Ireland is an interesting one, we are having such fun adapting to country living and learning to live in rural Ireland. It's a different way of life and very soon our off grid living space will be complete and we can really push on restoring the old house. Subscribe if you want to see how we go with it, its gonna be tough, expensive, physically demanding, there will be tears of joy and frustration I am sure, BUT, its going to be one epic adventure!

Guys we’ve got friends! Can you believe it?!? 😂
Was great to have a bit of help at the cottage this week, and if there’s a vanlife shaped hole in your Sunday viewing (ya know, now we are a bit busy knocking our house apart) then check Philly and Keely out here youtube.com/@phillyandkeely?si=ZmzWxZBFnVwO99jJ spoiler alert, the content is very well made.
On a separate note, we put up a new bird feeder today and it’s BUSY! Lots of bird content to come I’m sure.
So exciting, who’s enjoying the restoration videos?
I’m totally stunned at this news. Fanning myself to get over the shock. 👍☘️🇮🇪🥂
Fence is looking good guys and no doubt it won’t be long before the house is too. I feel awful for all the hard work you both do while I lounge about watching. So you’ve inspired me to do some much needed ceiling painting. Not a Michelangelo tho just some white emulsion. Big hugs girls 🫂 x
Loving the restoration videos. I'm really impressed the way you are both getting stuck in. It's going to be lovely once done. But as I said before, Lou needs a land rover.
Subscribed ❤ to them! I am truly loving your videos... its exciting to see you two doing the renos😂❤... AJ is one lucky pup , what a lovely yard he's got...
Good grief ladies, where do you get all your energy from? I was knackered watching the video. I love your optimistic outlook on everything. Keep up the great content, I think the way you two are going, it'll be refurbished in six months. 😉
Why do I get the feeling that the next time Emily cleans the camper she's going to find the pin on the floor under the bed or something and Louise actually swallowed a peanut.
I hope so 🙌
😂.. I was thinking that myself!
That's exactly what I thought too, let's hope we're right.
🤣😂🤣 I agree.
I was thinking next time she goes thru a metal detector it will go off 😄
The only problem with your videos is that they end too soon. Way to go girls! Remarkable progress.
Glad you like them so much 😀
100% agreed!
The chemistry you two have is just incredible and I always feel better after watching your channel. The world needs more lovely people like you. Have a great week. Cheers once again from Vancouver Island.
need their own TV show.. make great presenters!!!
Thank you, we think we do alright as a couple 😀
My 72 year old mother and I just love to watch your channel. We are so enjoying you renovating this old cottage and you two are such fun. But please Louise, for the love of gawd, we sincerely hope you have the greatest painfree, perforation free, smoothest satisfying shit! Love ye's both xx 🙂🙃🥰
Thank you guys 😀
She didnt swallow it , it would of showed up in xrays
😂😂😂
Sorry Lou but the story about the peanut and the pin had me in fits of laughter. Nice try trying to keep it under wraps, thanks Emily i needed that laugh this morning.
Brill video as ever guys ❤️ such a beautiful spot, loved spending time together 🥰🥰 and thanks Em for all the delicious food to fuel us 🤤 Looking forward to next time already 💪💪 you've got us proper land broody now!!!
You guys are more than welcome anytime 😀😀
Made my day watching both yourselves and camper vibe, great content guys . Michelle x
Oh my god my favourite two pairs of people Philly and Keeley and Em and Lou oh my god , you lot are bloody awesome . Hero worship , living the bloody life all you are . I cannot believe that I’m watching all of you . Amazing 😂🤣😂🤣🫶❤️🐾💪
Thank you, it was lovely to spend the time with them 🙂
Martha looks amazing. Love that wallpaper.
Same 2 pairs of people are my favourites too! Would just love it if they got together f a project!
Hearing the laughter around the kitchen table was wonderful-that’s what you’re building for and it’ll be important to keep that in mind when the rebuild gets tough.
And Lou- good luck listening for that pin to drop with Em about 😂😂😂
As always massive love to you both x
😂😂 what you trying to say, I’m so quiet 😂
@@campervibe now I’m singing Björk! 🤣 Shhhh! Shhhh!
Your doing a great job and it's going to look good when done but it is a long process. Take care and stay safe. Will see you in the next video. Hopefully Emily will be back to help you soon. ❤️🙏
Thank you for making my Sundays so much better every week. ❤ You make me smile and laugh every time and your videos are beautiful too.
Glad that we can and thank you for taking the time to watch the vids 🙂
My life for my wife.god bless you, awesome personality, also such fantastic. Shamim 👫💑🎎👬🫂👏
My weekly therapy session…love watching your Reno and your bantering. You ladies rock…not just your wall. And Louise…prunes are your friend!
😀😀😀😀
Well done girls. Good to see you looking so happy. Xx
Been following Philly & Keely for years... so glad they are your friends as well! Great working together!
They are a lovely couple
Good on ya. ❤
Just the smiles and laughter tells me everything girls ...such happiness😊❤
😀😀😀
I love you two , make me smile :) 😊
Lovely to see Philly and Keely popping in to help. Their Oz tour was brilliant, two of my favourite channels in one episode - watching whilst spending a couple of nights in my own van. My life is complete 😆👏
It was such a fun trip to watch of theirs 🙂
Ah you found my other favourites! Welcome home Philly and Keeley! And Martha! You just missed the first snow here in Tas. Loving this renovation work. The Aga in the kitchen is a great idea. You can get one that runs on solid fuel and oil ( or so my mates have told me)
You got snow 😀 yeah you can get a right variety of them now a days 🙂
looks great, was just watching P&K's crusty van☣ video this morning lol. For you fence, I have seen others paint the wire black with a roller and the mesh becomes almost invisible at a short distance.
That’s pretty cool
New subscriber, watching from Australia. Loving your episodes, and love all the birds 🥰. So great to see Philly and Keely!! Watched their whole lap of Aus and didn’t want them to leave 😂.
Really enjoyed your banter in this video and what a treat to see Philly and Keely who I discovered when they were travelling down here. Things are moving along quickly (except that pin!), can't wait to see what you create together.
I think we are making good progress so far and yeah them guys are a great laugh
Fare play girls I'm delighted for the two of you it's a big job. You would put some men to shame. You'll be delighted when ìt,s finished yous are amazing ĺ only watching your channel about two weeks. Ì love checking on how well yous are progressing l hope yous don't get t to many expensive surprises with it as yous know what old cottages can be like. I,m sò happy for yous take care Derek dublin
House is already looking like a home. All those birds chirping... (Is the word?), well, singing give you the idea of where the Irish accent comes from, is such a delight. Emily... Did you get to hear a "I pinned it" after Lou returned from the toilet? Keely's laughter is so contagious. You know, you have so many 'in between double sense' jokes, not many people dare to do so. ¡¡Pura Vida!!
Yeah chirping is the word 😀 it really does feel like home
Scottish here and I'd say turn about as well. Philly made perfect sense to me 🤣. Loving these videos
Having a cuppa and some ginger bics is the nicest way to watch somebody else work 😂 its also great watching someone who knows what there doing.thanks for the latest update your doing fantastic 👍
I think it’s the best way 😂
Another great video girls thanks for sharing The fence looks great along with the internal progress. nice to see Philly & Keely too. love it when colabs happen between channels i like and follow along too. Good luck
Loved hearing the laughter in your new home as you sat down for the curry, and so glad my second favourite dog nearly has his dream garden 😀
😀😀
I was recommended to use shellac to stop the stuff coming out the chimney, Make good first then do several coats. It has worked for me.
Aww nice to see Philly and Keely … just need Nick and Sarah from expawers to join you 😁.. Dream team ❤️
We love them guys, have not seen them in a couple of years now ☹️
I know they aren't good for the environment but I would just stick one cable tie per fence post for safety.. if the weather edges those staples out over time you have a small fall back 💪 Great to see CbC in the house 💝
How did you get to be friends with Keely and Philly I love their channel and glad your friends you all amazing people!!❤❤❤
Started off chatting through insta 😂
If you ever want to make ramming the posts into the ground easier, first use a steel bar with a point on one end , preferably as long and substantial as you can manage, to provide a pilot hole on the mark where you want the post. You ram the bar into the ground as far as you can, then roll it from the top in a circular motion which gives you a cone shaped start hole. If you repeat the process as many times as you need, to obtain the correct depth of penetration for your post, then simply place the post in the cone shaped hole that you have created and ram it in until it’s at the correct depth. Takes half the effort out of the job and the post is still equally as secure in the ground.
Given all the rain in Ireland probably be a good idea to clear all the barn as a workshop and for dry storage of materials
Yes I thought the same. It would make the tasks so much easier and to have the tools there. Other great youtubers that I follow 'The Irish Homestead' lost their barn in the storms and I felt so sorry for them.
The barn is something we will do, main priority was the track and fence for AJ then onto other jobs like that 🙂
🥰Love Philly and Keely.
Fabulous work ladies... so much progress. Here's hoping that pin makes a safe exit Louise 🤞and good luck convincing Emily about using cow dung in the construction 😂... So funny!!
Oh I know 🙈💩
Another great video ladies thankyou! Nice to see Philly & Keeley in there too, as an Aussie I obviously followed their travels whilst here, you guys don't seem to have any fears of where you
going next or what you're doing - I'm so envious! You ladies have taken on this house - no experience, no problem......... Cheers everyone!
Aga with back boiler for heating and hot water
.multi fuel AGA... expensive but worth it maybe put feelers out for second hand one
Yeah that’s what we are thinking
Brilliant idea girl's, a range is great for a detached cottage 👍😉🇨🇮☘️Eire
Ooh Philly and Keely, how lovely to see you all together. I've been really enjoying their epic Australia trip and Martha's looking so great compared to how I just saw her over on their channel. Well done on getting on with the fencing. It's looking reet grand.
It was a great trip they done 😀
So enjoyed this video you two are so lovely to watch take care both❤❤😉👋
Can't wait to see AJ having a hoon around! Fabulous video as always, love seeing the birds. The genuine thrill you guys have is heartwarming. Happy days!❤
😀🐕
When using the post knocker best to hold handles up the top. Found less hand slipping and less chance of coming off the post, tipping and hitting your head. Found that out the hard way me self 🤣🤣🤣
So much fun to see 2 of my favorite TH-cam channels together!
😀😀
Ditto makes my Sunday
Houses like this follow a very old traditional layout with historically one main space with a fire in the middle and usually an entrance in the centre. The innovation was the creation of a dividing wall with the central fireplace split into two (living/kitchen and sleeping) with a central chimney and small entrance porch. Chimneys located at the ends of the building was a later architectural development allowing what would have been mezzanine floors to extend to the central wall divide creating bedrooms above in two storey dwellings. Preserved cob cottages I’ve seen in the southern part of Ireland demonstrate this transitional development.
And here I was worried about the chicken wire fence poking you in the eye, never thought to warn never to use a push pin for tooth pick at the risk of swallowing it! So did it come out? So so glad it didn’t slow Louis down at all! :) Always love the music selections! Thank you for the entertainment
Oh I know right 🤦🏻♀️😂
Great video girls, if you want to try and control your dust, PVA & water your bare walls/concrete floors, and wrap polythene around the doors to create a seal between the door and door frame which will stop dust getting into your clean rooms
I hate when your video comes to a end. Love what your doing so far. I will pop over and check out your friends later. Hopefully you can get more visitors who come to help for a bit of grub a sleep over and above all that beautiful country. Brilliant video again Ladies. Cant wait for next week ☺ ☺ 😊 😊
Thanks, we are glad so many people are enjoying these change in vids 😀
@@campervibe something I love more about this channel is how you interact with us all, Hope that pin as left the building lol 😂 😂
looking great
Great job! We admire your work ethic!!!
Thank you
Love everything about you guys. Keep up the good work ❤❤
I continue to be inordinately happy to watch you two getting on with your shared life doing up your little bit of Ireland whilst sat in my own bit ❤❤❤
😀
as you have the storage, I would not dispose of any wood, hardcore, old bricks or anything that may come in useful one day, as believe me, even that wood from those beds, kindling one day when you have the log burners, bricks as you will kick yourself when you end up buying them. Unless you really think is unusable chuck it, but otherwise you have the room to keep it. Also lovinig the new content of the renovation. Keep on smashing it
I can’t imagine a more fun day than hanging with you guys and Philly and Keely!! ❤❤ the fence is looking really great 👌🏼
Thanks 😀
Fence looks great! I have seen a few times that if you paint the metal black it disguises it and looks clear! Although I don’t know if that’ll cause issues for the pooch seeing it 😂
Looking nice!
A couple of tips for your fencing ..... Rollers and String!
OK, when you are painting your posts/ battens it is quicker and easier to use a roller rather than a brush. You can do several at a time and then turn them all over to do the back.
The string needs a couple of extras though a couple of wooden blocks and a weight at on end to make a plumb bob. It is the fastest and most accurate way to check verticals. Tie a knot in one end of your string and wrap it round the top and drop the line so the knot holds it and then trap your block under the hanging section. If you get good you can easily do away with the bottom block and just eye it up! It is quicker to do than to tell you how to do! ;o)
I think the "creosote" is the condensate from wood /peat burning as the smoke cools down in the chimney. If so you can clean much of it off with a good sweeping. I do my own once a year with an online chimney sweeping brush and rods that fit on the end of a battery drill. Get the size of brush for your chimney (it might be good to get two, one for your chimney and one for your flue when fitted (Amazon is your "bestie" for this)! It will not get rid of the seepage but will cut it down in the future. Even if you chisel out the leaking areas and "repoint" it there will be spots that come through later ..... even cement is not impervious to it so it might just be a case of least worst cure. Maybe a good waterproofing agent?
I wish you both well for this!
Thank you, great tips 😀
I had a friend who once swallowed a sewing pin, and they never found out what happened to it. Also, don't forget to create access holes in your fence for four legged critters passing through. :) Also, OMG Philly and Keely!!!!!!! Amazing. 😍
I so love you both you bounce of each other, the vlog girls is amazing i so admire you both what ur doing its amazing ❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂
😀😀 thanks
Brilliant video as always and was good to see @phillyandkeely helping you out. Id literally just finished watching their video of leaving Oz and visiting Bangkok.
That was such a good trip they done 🙂
Hand on heart I love you two.. I smile from start to finish watching you.. your vlogs have everything..comedy.. nature.. amazing diy projects but most of all.. love.. you guys are the real deal. My absolute favourite vloggers ❤
That’s so lovely, we are so happy you enjoy the vids and coming along on this journey with us 😀
Love Philly and Keely ❤❤❤❤
So nice, to see the progress on the fence and inside the House. And as always, beautiful editing on Top. Thanks and have a great week
Hi just little advice from a fencing contractor, those stables wont last long at all ,put proper fencing staples in ,just one strand above ,you might know them as u nails ,but loving what your doing
Yep, got some u nails in there too, it’s just so far I’ve put in over 3000 staples, didn’t fancy whacking in 3000 u nails. As I said the other week, I simply can’t film every single step of every single thing we do, the videos would be too long and would take too long to make that I wouldn’t get them out weekly.
So very nice to have your weekly vlogs back, ladies and so very excited to see all of the work on your sweet cottage!! EM, the new outfit looks lovely!! Excited for your sweet fur babies to have their roaming space!! ❤❤ so happy for you all!!
Thanks 😀
Awesome ur guests we Philly n Keely I luv watching them they make me laugh n smile as u two do
They are such a lovely couple 😀
Brilliant to see progress at the house, your two new friends sure helped out with the fence, good to see that. Glad to see you have met the local farmer, keep friends with him as he will be of help to you in the future I'm sure.
They were a great help, really sped things along 🙂
I'm so excited for you. You work so hard, and it's a real joy to see you living your dream.
Thank you so much ☺️
good vid on you work on you of grid houe keep up the good vids thanks lee
Cheers Lee
Lovely surprise to see my favourite 2 sets of TH-camrs in the same video. I watched Philly and Keely earlier today! Brilliant!
😀😀
Your vlogs cheer up Sunday. So enjoyable to watch, your lovely house is already looking loved, cheers from London 👍
Happy to cheer you up 😀😀
So delighted for you both, so good to see the house become a home to welcome guests and share the good life. Thank you for sharing the feeling with such wonderful videos.
Louise: „safety first“
Also Louise: swallows a pin
😂🤦🏻♀️
So priveleged to hear our MarshmEmily nickname get a mention! ♥(Of course, of course safety first!) You're both working so hard and doing so well, such a great video! Cannot WAIT to see AJ and Summer get their freedom, and see more! Keep up the muscle training and the passion for one another & your dream home !! 🌠
Rich & Lou xx
Aw thanks guys and I so do look like that 😂
You two are doing so well👏
Heres something to make you both giggle, i got caught out with the spirit level joke. I went into B&Q in my late teens and was asked to find an employee to get me a bubble for the spirit level. Oh, the shame 😂😂 i didn't fall for the tartan paint, though 🤣
😂😂🙈
@@campervibe to say I felt like a twat is an understatement 🙄
Hey guys it's not creosote, it's tar from the soot in the chimney. If you coat it with knotting - used to seal knots in wood to stop them falling out,
It should stop the tar coming through your finish.
Thanks 🙂
Wow I'm early. Let's see what you've got for us.
Now, you are really rocking it with the renovation. Great Video.
Loiuse, if you're feeling brave, tell Emily the doctors confirmed that after years of her cooking you're now able to digest steel and plastic. 🙆
😂😂 prob true
Louise trying to be a pin up girl OOPS pin down
😂😂
A had a family barbecue yesterday and a was telling everyone how good your channel is and to start watching ..so much good vibes you 2 give out so funny and very talented girls ....thanks scott and Heather and hamish and bonnie my 2 dogs
Aw thank you, that’s so kind of you
Been waiting days for this ❤😊
Me too
😀😀😀
Hands up, who thought that skip was going to swing in to the wall? Edit: So GLAD it didn't!
So are we 😂🙌
@@campervibe I bet that was very tense to watch! 😅
Of all the places you've been and the things you have done, you go and swallow a pin.
Tell us about it 🤦🏻♀️
Yaaaa Keelie and Philly! ❤
Well done guys amazing work xxx Can't wait to see the next one xx
An Aga is a great idea, it gives the home a heart.
Lou this gives a whole new meaning to pin your location 😂😂😂 sorry shouldn’t laugh hope you find the pin soon!! 🙏🫣
Great vlog you guys are working so hard ! Having done a lot of work ourselves on houses we know what you’re going through and it’s not easy filming, editing and doing the work so well done !!! 👏 I think the lime shelves will look the dogs wotsits!! 🤪 xxx
Hi Lou,sorry to hear about your mishap with the pin,you need to have porridge each morning, that should shift it 🤞🤞🤞
Looks fantastic 👌
A couple of coats of oil-based undercoat should bury the stain and leave a matt finish.
123 Bulls Eye Zinsser is good stuff - primer-sealer stain killer. We used it over lime. Scrub first then paint just the stains. Good luck.
Re the fireplace, couldn’t you expose the stone over the fireplace without taking the block out. Fake wood over mantle will always look fake.
brilliant video as always. its all looking great x
Rapt to see Philly & Keely there. I hope there was coffee available lol. Re the fire. If you can get hold of a good Aga/Rayburn stove with a decent water jacket/tank, you'll never regret it. I restored one for our kitchen and use it constantly in Winter or just cold days. Apart from cooking and heating, it cut our power bill by about 30%. Paid for itself in 18 Months. Wouldn't be without it now. We are both loving the Resto' vids. The cottage will look amazing when finished. Cheers from Aus' Glenn & Debz
Hi Louise and Emily, I just watched your latest vlog. You're doing a brilliant job, I have to say👍😊 looking forward to the next episode. Keep up the good work, girls❤👍
Thank you 😀
respect
put butter on summers paws when she first goes out it helps them sniff there way back x
OMG It’s Philly & Keeley on your channel, my 2 fav youtube couples together. Rayburn or Aga ladies? I had a multi fuel Rayburn as that was what was available locally. Loved it so much. Advice is to still have a conventional cooker.
A little Irish Blessing

So happy for you guys!! Just a little tip about the fencing. If you paint the mesh black it becomes less of an eye sore and things are more visible on the other side. Can’t wait to see how the house turns out.
Good luck with that pin , potential to make the day after a vindaloo feel like an ice cream ......
Watched Philly and keely on their Aussie trip. Absolutely awesome.
love love LOVE! literally just watched philly n keels vid too xx
