Vapour blasted and ultra sonic cleaned always for the carb, nuts and bolts you'd be better with a media tumbler (normally used for polishing brass shells) maybe look at a zinc plating kit
Just found your channel and subscribed. We use one at the small engine shop I work at, we run them through for about an hour though. You throw pretty much anything in there and it’ll come out clean.
My experience is that a basket or hangers make a huge difference in speed and even how clean parts come out. Even the Harbor Freight one does a decent job if you hang the parts so they don't shake.
You can also fill the ultra sonic cleaner with water, and then fill degreaser in the zip-lock bags and dump them in the water, This is especially useful when you have a bigger cleaner. Saves a lot of degreaser. The ultrasonic waves are not stopped by the plastic bag, and as long as the parts are covered in fluid it works just as good. And the bags float on top, since they don't need to be full
They make plastic bags for ultrasonic cleaners that increase the number of bubbles. ETA: oh yeah, the bags shouldn't be full. Cativation is about pressure.
I used my cleaner without a basket and it caused pitting in the tub. It now leaks. Setting parts directly on the tank bottom bottom increases the incident of cavitation erosion - pitting of the tank eventually causing the ultrasonic cleaner to leak .
I know this is an older video but what I watched today will save you time and money. If you place water in the UltraSonic and just solution in a plastic Jar and the parts inside the jar it does the same thing. You won't need to spend a lot of time cleaning your cleaner and this way works just as fast! Have a link to a video if you want but you can find it on TH-cam
Ultrasonic cleaners are extremely useful but how effective they are is largely dependent on the solvent used and what you are trying to clean. They are basically microscopic agitators so if the gunk you are trying to remove is not highly soluble in the solvent you are using then it is going to wanna stay on the surface of your parts. It would be interesting to see if you could find a solvent specially formulated for carbon build up and use that in the cleaner. Great video. It was fun to watch.
I've always blasted my carb with baking soda then dropped it in the sonic cleaner. soda works well because it doesn't take paint off so it makes its perfect for cleaning painted parts! other than the soda breaks down fairly quickly. for those wondering the soda will dissolve out of the parts.
Worked great on the carbs i cleaned.. came out looking almost new. I used mean green degreaser 50-50 with water and ran through about 4 cycles. Bike runs perfect now. Would recommend to do this with any parts needing cleaned. Great video.
I've had good luck with mine (ConstHydra Ultrasonic Cleaner 2.5 gallon) the only glitch is the heater keeps heating, even if you turn the heater off. I left a review on Amazon with this information and a suggestion to send it back if this happened. They removed all of my reviews and blocked me from any future reviews. I don't think pointing out a safety defect should warrant that action but Amazon does. I use a 10:1 ratio of steam distilled Water to Simple Green Lemon. (2 gallons H20 22 oz Simple green).
Omg I was just about to post the same thing, when I saw that I skipped the whole video. Anyone who mounts a vise in the middle of a bench cant be doing anything properly
If the part is not heat-sensitive, (not plastic), you can get built up carbon off by simmering in a stainless kettle of water with a box of baking soda and a couple of Tide pods thrown in. Just let it simmer for a half-hour or so, and it 'cooks' the carbon off enough to buff or brush or scrape off easily, something that an ultrasonic cleaner can't achieve.
I got one over christmas i love mine to be able to leave everything all together and dump it in there is wicked and its not just the inside it cleans the entire carb and does a great job on cast
6:34 sealed 7:29 almost all missing seals. this guy does amazing work but Leo is right you dont put sealed bearings or parts with rubber O rings in them in solvent, hopefully he was just demonstrating the power of the ultra sonic cleaner though he did state they were just old bearings
Also its not good advice to ultrasonically clean bearings at all. Ultrasonic cleaning works by creating very small cavitation bubbles, they collapse and smash the dirt off the surface. If you do the same with bearings it can actually cause very very fine pitting in the raceways. You wont see or feel it, but the bearing will fail earlier.
you actually can service a bearing with kerosene or a degreasing agent as long as you rinse then blow it out with compressed air and repack with good grease. a ball bearing could last a real long time theoretically. but generally there fairly cheap to replace.
I see a can of "Wake Up" around 4:39 or so. I could use that most mornings I have to go to work. Yeah, just open up a can of "Wake Up" and have with biscuits.
I use mine for my black powder pistols and it works amazingly well. I use warm water with a few drops dish soap. 8 minutes later they are squeaky clean.
If you clean most of the dirt off with classic means, and use your degreaser liquid and ultrasonic for a bit longer (20-30'), your results would be even better !
Great video as always! The parts and especially the carb came out flawless!I just wanted to point out that you shouldn’t clean bearings with ultrasonic cleaners. The cleaner makes tiny little scoring inside the bearing races and actually destroys them. But we all knew you wouldn’t use those bearings wright?
That was a nice video. Apart from the few encrusted parts no high pressure air was used. Kind of interesting. Not even the carb was blown in it's channels. It can be messy.
Denture cleaners or jewelry cleaners are good for small parts like bolts. They are cheap (like $10-12) and most come with a basket for the parts. I got my first one at a second hand store for four bucks. In all I have three for big projects: each has a different solvent (a paint safe, a paint remover, and a mild rinse). Works great and easier than trying to hold a 1/2"#8 screw.
take a little pop bottle, cut the top off, and poke a few holes in the bottom, perfect little basket. that's what we used to use in the sonic tank to clean cryogenic pumps before they went back together. super high tech.
I have the same u.s. cleaner and use it to clean my vintage espresso machine parts. Use with oxygenated cleaner with V.G. results. Much better than I got with just an overnight soak and scrub.
This seems like an effective and fast way to clean parts. Will a more expensive machine yield better results? How about using a different liquid? Can this be used on all types of materials, such as rubber seals?
The cleaning result will depend on suitable frequency, suitable power, suitable temperature, suitable size, and others. It will be different from case to case. Ultrasonic cleaning is working better on hard parts cause the soft parts will absorb the sound energy.
not really about ultra sonic cleaning but wondering you ever clean the header/silenser pipes insides (not just outside polishing) like carbon build up cleaning?
Thank you for video. Tip. Anything exhaust related including EGR use oven cleaner foam. Spray, rinse spray rinse and using medium to hard brush to assist deeper penetration
Dude, this should be like a 30 second video of you saying "Ultra sonic cleaners work so well it's like magic." Purple Simple Green is one of the best water-based degreasers you can get. Pinesol also works great. Don't bother using the "safe for the earf" cleaners because they suck.
Was looking into buying that exact model now I'm definitely going to buy one thanks, what was the cleaning solution you used it did an amazing job I can quit using carburetor acid
A good trick with A bigger ultrasonic cleaner is to save old plastic water proof peanut butter jars. Fill the jars with gasoline or kerosene throw your parts in the jar and close the lid and seal it up and throw it inside of the liquid of your ultrasonic cleaner. All your carbon will be removed and your ultrasonic cleaning fluid will not be contaminated because the peanut butter jars and seal and do not let the gasoline leak out
could you have poked a hole in the bag and put the parts in. I have herd that the ultrasonic will destroy the bearing in the ultrasonic, but I personally do not know.
I have the similar model, there are a few things I don't understand. Yellow sticker "do not plug power..." I just don't get it. Do they mean fill it with liquid and then plug into the wall? What danger if I do the reverse? Also, I set the temp to 30 but it actually went up to 36. Why would that happen? BTW, I'll be using the device to clean watch parts. Many thanks.
You should never set parts directly on the bottom of the tank. ALWAYS use a basket or something to keep them off the bottom. Not only does it not clean as well, it can damage the tank.
Could you put an entire brake caliper in there? Would it damage the seals at all? Currently rebuilding my xr400 and africa twin, brakes are the next job!
Because You Do Such A Good Job of Sorting Everything Out, You should Just put Some Cleaner mix in the Bag / or Bags ,& Just Put Water in The Tank,Good Video
Am I correct that you did not change the saf-2-kleen liquid? If that is a fact, how often do you need to change it, or do you just change it when it is not longer doing its job?
Step 1 take Mikuni carb off Step 2 chuck it as far as you can Step 3 buy a PWK 38....Best mod ive ever done on my 2002.When i got my 2005 CR 250 i got a YZ250 PWK with tps and never looked back.Good video though!
If you still need a little basket for your ultrasonic cleaner, try a stainless steel drain screen. Places that sell plumbing supplies usually have them. You might want to re-shape it a little and put a wire handle on too. They're really cheap, about 3 US $ last I knew. Won't that basket that you used to hose off bearings fit in?
A little late to teh party here, but I've got a hazard fraught ultrasonic cleaner adn thus far have not been disappointed in it. You do have to be careful about what you put in it, though. I cleaned my eye glasses and ended up stripping the paint right off the frames! Got them shits clean, though! LOL
if anyone still watching dec 2022, cleaned my telescope mount parts with a sonic cleaner and citrus based degreaser..... looked under a magnifying glass after and theyre pristine.... not a thing in the gears or parts..... best way to clean
Have you guys tried using an ultrasonic cleaner before?
The cleaner I'm using here: amzn.to/2EvTZs9
Scotch Brite Wheels goo.gl/65An6b
Vapour blasted and ultra sonic cleaned always for the carb, nuts and bolts you'd be better with a media tumbler (normally used for polishing brass shells) maybe look at a zinc plating kit
Have cleaned 20 or more carbs in mine. Actually buying a 2 gallon unit for large parts
Scotch bright wheel link is dead, 404 error.

Arnljot Seem thanks for sharing that!
Maybe using Seafoam or any other carbon cleaner inside the bag for the exhaust parts?
They make plastic bags for ultrasonic cleaners that increase the number of bubbles.
ETA: oh yeah, the bags shouldn't be full. Cativation is about pressure.
@@wakkywabbit5446 Any links or product names for the bags? Couldn't find via search.
Brilliant! Retrieving is easy also.
I used my cleaner without a basket and it caused pitting in the tub. It now leaks. Setting parts directly on the tank bottom bottom increases the incident of cavitation erosion - pitting of the tank eventually causing the ultrasonic cleaner to leak .
you didn't consider the ramifications beforehand huh? painful lessons in stupid are painful.
thanks for sharing your experience for the education of others!
thanks for the heads up !
Good call-out for a problem a lot of people likely never considered!
mine came with no basket , so should I find a metal or plastic one ? Make or find 1 of course . As I've had this 3 + years & just opened it up .
I know this is an older video but what I watched today will save you time and money. Perhaps pre-soak the parts with carbon build up, with a simple spray on oven cleaner? I've used this for cleaning piston crowns.
I've always blasted my carb with baking soda then dropped it in the sonic cleaner. soda works well because it doesn't take paint off so it makes its perfect for cleaning painted parts! other than the soda breaks down fairly quickly. for those wondering the soda will dissolve out of the parts.
soda is also perfect for removing stingie carbon build ups because its doesn't remove any of the metal :)
Worked great on the carbs i cleaned.. came out looking almost new. I used mean green degreaser 50-50 with water and ran through about 4 cycles. Bike runs perfect now. Would recommend to do this with any parts needing cleaned. Great video.
You put assembled bearings in it?
I've had good luck with mine (ConstHydra Ultrasonic Cleaner 2.5 gallon) the only glitch is the heater keeps heating, even if you turn the heater off. Who puts their vice in the middle of the bench??
Someone who don’t give a shit
Omg I was just about to post the same thing, when I saw that I skipped the whole video. Anyone who mounts a vise in the middle of a bench cant be doing anything properly
I think it’s so he can get better shots when using it and recording.
Model makers, jewelers. If not used for hammering and squishing, it's more like a hand to hold something while work on it sitting down comfortably.
🤣
Better results than I thought... I better drag my cleaner out again and try that solution. Thx C
A simple but indispensable piece of equipment with many useful applications.

Nice video! but... You should not imerse sealed bearings on solvents.
Didn't look very sealed to me
6:34 sealed 7:29 almost all missing seals. this guy does amazing work but Leo is right you dont put sealed bearings or parts with rubber O rings in them in solvent, hopefully he was just demonstrating the power of the ultra sonic cleaner though he did state they were just old bearings

yeah....was enough for me to see how much i can learn from this channel :))
you have to leave those exhaust parts soak a couple days in simple green. It will clean them up like new.
Your videos are awesome there's no annoying music straight to the point keep up the great work
A dentist I deliver mail to actually put one of these out for takers, and I took it! 😁 I'll get a power lead and see if it works okay. Nice demo! 🙏🏽🇬🇧
Honestly can't wait to see the cr250 finished.
I see a can of "Wake Up" around 4:39 or so. I could use that most mornings I have to go to work. Yeah, just open up a can of "Wake Up" and have with biscuits.
I seen one of these at a 2nd hand store for $5.00, I think I'll go get it if it's still there.
I use mine for my black powder pistols and it works amazingly well. I use warm water with a few drops dish soap. 8 minutes later they are squeaky clean.
Greetings from Poland ❤️
5:10-6" bench grinder with a medium or fine brass or ss wire wheel will do the flaps right.
You can make a basket out of some stainless or aluminum screen and a wire coat hanger. Leave enough screen to fold over the top for the floaty parts.
You should get 2 sonic washes 1 for degreasing and 1 for rust prevention and a final rinse tank
If you clean most of the dirt off with classic means, and use your degreaser liquid and ultrasonic for a bit longer (20-30'), your results would be even better !
But the ball bearings you must Re oil or grease new ?
Better not to put ball bearings into the common ultrasonic tank as it might damage the surface of the ball.
Or use used bearings! 😅
Thanks for that, I'll just replace my bearings. 🖐🇦🇺
Wasn't sure how effective these devices are. Will definitely purchase now. 5/22. 🖐🇦🇺
Very helpful. Thank you.
That was a nice video. Apart from the few encrusted parts no high pressure air was used. Kind of interesting. Not even the carb was blown in it's channels. It can be messy.
Great way of keeping the bit together, how will it work on rusty bits nice video
Been on the fence about buying an USC for a couple years,I do a lot of old carb rebuilds car and cycle,Thanks for the video, think it's time to get one
Thanks for testing.
What is the best thing you could use on aluminum carburetor?
To make it look new.
Simple green D or something like that. Cleans really good and is easy on aluminum
holy shit that actually did work good. makes me want to get a big one. Takes a lot of scrubbing and cleaning out of the process.
Quick tip cam if you put a 1/4 of an inch of cleaning ammonia and leave it sit over night. Than put parts in the Ultra sonic cleaner
Denture cleaners or jewelry cleaners are good for small parts like bolts. They are cheap (like $10-12) and most come with a basket for the parts. Is it best to disassemble the carb entirely before sonic cleaning or is it ok to leave the jets in?
Doesn't matter if you remove them or not.
Nice job there - I'm shopping! 👌🏻
I put small parts in a fish tank net then hang it over the side. It can be bad for metal surfaces letting them buzz around on the bottom of the tank
Great video!!!! I love all of the videos you make man!!
take a little pop bottle, cut the top off, and poke a few holes in the bottom, perfect little basket. that's what we used to use in the sonic tank to clean cryogenic pumps before they went back together. super high tech.

I've never ever seen a vice in the middle of a bench. They go on the end for a reason!

Use Simple Green Extreme Aircraft Degreaser is the best for ultrasonic machines
Placing parts directly on the bottom can damage the transducer not to mention the tank itself.
Keep it up cam channel is growing fast!!
How many liters is the machine you used?
Gently rubbing the part caked in carbon with fine steel wool works quite nicely for me
Para peças carbonizadas é interessante usar um descarbonizante profissional... Abraço
Oh woah, I thought when I was watching this video that you look a lot like Devin Niemela, then I looked at your name! That was not expected!
Was looking into buying that exact model now I'm definitely going to buy one thanks, what was the cleaning solution you used it did an amazing job I can quit using carburetor acid
I like the idea of putting in parts or bolts and letting it sit in an ultasonic cleaner for days

Nice man, good infomation for all
2:56 Yeah those bearings are gonna be ding great with corrosive degreaser in them.
Nice timing! I have bought one yesterday and it will arive today.
Un verdadero review. Un gran abrazo!!!
Amazing job on that carburetor, almost new.
Carbdip works very well on exhaust parts. The flaps come out bare metal. Also valves/pistons
@4:55 I thought you said you didn't have a little basket
It works better if you use the basket that came with the cleaner. Parts need to be suspended
could you have poked a hole in the bag and put the parts in.
I have herd that the ultrasonic will destroy the bearing in the ultrasonic, but I personally do not know.
Or the tub could be full of water and the bags can be filled with cleaner.

You have to use the basket that should have came with the unit because clearance between the floor and walls of the unit is required.
Great video as always, will you be getting an FMF for the cr250
Because You Do Such A Good Job of Sorting Everything Out, You should Just put Some Cleaner mix in the Bag / or Bags ,& Just Put Water in The Tank,Good Video
Am I correct that you did not change the saf-2-kleen liquid? If that is a fact, how often do you need to change it, or do you just change it when it is not longer doing its job?
Wow I’m using that exact same carburetor
In order to clean carbon from exhaust parts use oven cleaner.
Excellent work Cam...si pudiera te enviaría mi moto para que le hagas todo ese trabajo, saludos desde Argentina
Love the videos bro! Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to see how the CR250 turns out
Would you recommend always set temp at 55?
I have one big enough to get the whole carb off my 1980 Beamish Suzuki, it does a great job of cleaning it
Awesome work as always!👌
Your not going to get good results without a basket, items need to be suspended above the transducers
Step 1 take Mikuni carb off Step 2 chuck it as far as you can Step 3 buy a PWK 38....Best mod ive ever done on my 2002.When i got my 2005 CR 250 i got a YZ250 PWK with tps and never looked back.Good video though!

What i have finished liquid for cleaning.? Will i have to buy from you again and again?
Do you change the degreaser or not after some part cleaning?
Greetings and many thanks.
Wow...tanks
Was there a control group? any stuff that just went into the degreaser to see the difference that the ultrasonic cleaner by itself caused?
if anyone still watching dec 2022, cleaned my telescope mount parts with a sonic cleaner and citrus based degreaser..... looked under a magnifying glass after and theyre pristine.... not a thing in the gears or parts..... best way to clean
try leaving the parts in the zip lock bags with small holes in bags or a glass or plastic jar
What if you filled it with carb cleaner/injector cleaner? For carbon buildup
What was the capacity of the tub on this unit? Thanks.
How long did you run the carb in the tank for?
Is it safe to use the ultrasonic cleaner on the bearings in the chain rollers? Did it pull the grease out of them or are the still good to go?
You'd want to re grease them after cleaning for sure
