      It's a bit more complicated, I think. The speed is very important. As the old adage says: "the ball travels faster, than the man."
      The speed of the recycle and the speed and accuracy of the 1st pass are the 3 most important skills on a scrum half. More important than kicking, or running a support line. Fast recycle + fast & precise 1st pass can devastate any defensive line, and enable a team to gain consistent ground phase after phase, against a defensive line, that simply doesn't get enough time to reset. It's this front foot ball, that enables the All Blacks to exploit a crumbling defense after 3-4 phases of dominant forward carry + fast recycle.

    • @mereanaholmes3946
      @mereanaholmes3946 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Speed isn't more important than accuracy.
      If you're recycling the ball quickly and missing your target with your passes, your forward pack will need to be quicker to cover your inaccurate passes.
      That's unlikely to happen if your passes are accurate and consistent.

    • @JTM1809
      @JTM1809 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mereanaholmes3946 That’s why I literally wrote: “The speed of the recycle, and the speed and accuracy of the 1st pass are the 3 most important skills on a scrum half.”
      If your pass is inaccurate, it doesn’t help. If it’s accurate, but slow as molasses, it not only takes away the ‘travels faster than the man’ advantage away, but also becomes an intercept target.

      Chill fellas. Just saying, that at the start the rules mentioned each pass had to go to hand. Where I’m from, ‘go to hand’ means a pass is caught. Otherwise, the pass could have been a metre above the guy’s head or skimming the grass, but as long as the the guy gets a fingertip to it, it would be considered ‘to hand’.

      You can put him at SH, FH, centre, winger or even at back row and I bet you my computer he would stilllook world class.
