- Ultimate Rugby Challenges catches up with Faf de Klerk who saw the fastest pass challenge between Aaron Smith and Antoine Dupont, and thinks he can beat it! Here is Faf’s attempt to record the fastest pass in the world.

One handed will always be faster - it's bio mechanics & physics. The outside arc is longer and can then therefore generate more power which translates to speed. Trying to keep the inside hand on the ball, as with conventional passing technique, limits the arc, therefore the power, therefore the speed.....

Same ball, same wight, different air pressure, same altitude? Same humidity and temperature? Different wind speed and direction? To many variables to reliably compare speeds accurately. Was the speedguns calibrated at all? No, they used un-calibrated and different makes of speedguns.

The king of passing must be Robert Du Preez who in his day could pass a flat bullet pass from the halfway line to the goal line to his fly half Naas Botha. He was a monster.

Needs to be a traditional 2-handed rugby pass, not a generic throw - give the ball to pretty much any lock pushing 7-foot with hands the size of baseball mitts and let him chuck it like Smith, and they'll destroy 69kmph \m/

@@antoneverbright haha I still don't understand how you can think that. A pass is a pass. Nowhere in the laws does it specify that a pass has to be made with two hands. A one handed offload is still a pass by definition. Anyway, I don't care who leads this silly competition. I am a Springbok supporter, so I am supporting Faf, but I honestly don't care who wins this. I was just pointing out that Dupont's pass was 67kmph and not 65kmph like they said in this video. So I was just correcting their typo. I didn't even mention anything about Aaron Smith...

you also can't beat someone throwing a ball with 1 hand, due to you using more kinetic energy when passing with 2 hands makes it slower already as the energy is has to be distributed through both arms/hands

Air temperature difference of only 5°c will already significantly change the speed difference because the weight of the ball changes with altitude and air temperature. Was the soeedguns calibrated, probably not... This was a waist of time from a technical point of view.
Not at all as the speed was measured out of the hand so it makes zero difference

@@aj-qj4lt Smith threw 60kph legitimately. It was Dupont who threw 67kph (properly). then Smith threw one handed to hit 69kph which seriously can't count as a rugby pass. I'm not sure why it says Dupont hit 65kph when the video is right there and clearly shows him hitting 67
