Now the wrench flashes all the time but whats really worse is the dan coming on with the key. Its rare for the 500 fan to even kick on till it goes hot. Your better off adding a switch and run the fan on hot days while hauling or towing something.

sounds like if the ecm is giving faulty Hot signal, trace those wires and verify thru a wiring diagram that you can cut and bypass the ecm , splice those wires together, free fix , but you would have to monitor your coolant system manually or add in a cooant temp meter so as not to overheat. .... ecm may tend to ground out in that area if its happpened many times is my guess?

A little off the subject... I have a 2012 Sportsman HO 500. Back a few months ago I noticed around 5000 rpm it would bog down and almost die.. It idled and run fine otherwise. Since I hadn't rode the thing very much, I believed it was trash in the carb. I cleaned the carb and replaced the jets.. No improvement. So, I purchased and installed a new carb.. Problem didn't improve. I changed the plug.. No help. I replaced the pulse pump and all the fuel lines.. No help. Removed and cleaned the tank.. No help. I knew the air filter was new, so I hadn't even given it a thought, that it might be the problem. But, one evening while listening to the engine idle, and revving it a little.. I thought I'd remove the filter cover and see how it run.. and it actually improved a little.. So, I removed the filter, and it improved a little more. And that's when I found the culprit. All that money spent on parts, time of changing them out.. and the irritation of worrying about this bike.. came down to the hard plastic sleeve inside the rubber breather tube, that prevents the rubber from crushing when you tighten the air filter onto the rubber intake hose. When I replaced the air filter, I had invariantly caused that little hard piece of tubing to be turned sideways inside the rubber breather hose.. which allowed enough air for the bike to idle and run half throttle, then fall on it's face around 5K rpm or so. Moral of the story.. Check everything, even if you think it's correct.

Good Catch. I have so many people asking that same question. It could be anything. Most of the time its something pinched not letting air to flow in.

Great video! I just bought an 05 scrambler 500 not running, once I got it going it has some mysterious electrical issues. like with key off the dash lights would light up randomly neutral then the hot light or reverse or they all would come on at once had my local dealer run my VIN and sure enough it still had a open recall on the ECM. So that’s where it’s sitting now. Keep up the videos they are great! I like wrenching on older Polaris’s as a hobby if I get stuck on something I usually find a video where you’ve explained it and it’s pretty helpful

I have an 04 scrambler 500 with a cdi box, regulator rectifier, and ECM. I am so confused. I concluded to a bad stator, (not charging) and tested it with a multimeter. I can't find a stator with the correct wiring so far. I need this thing running by next weekend, any ideas? My brain hurts. I also have a parts sportsman 500 that looks to have the same system as my 00 scrambler 500 that I know works, can I just swap that harness in? An alternative solution to this is to eliminate the ecm box entirely with a few basic changes to the wiring. I successfully deleted mine from a 2004.5 sportsman by connecting the circuits together and adding a Honda atv style voltage regulator. Battery is charging fine. Will need to either run the fan constantly or find a fan switch solution.

I have heard of that happening to guys. I think your on the right track. Check all your ground wires. By the speedo/light switch. There is a ground by the rear left tire and up in front. Try to add an extra ground wire. I had to do that to this one. Some wires were turning green so I didn't trust the ground wire.

Martin, you shouldn't have any issues with using a 04-06 sportsman 400/500 ECM (Part#2203348). You are correct though about not having turf mode. I was considering the rewire that Titaniumman Garage performed but after reviewing wiring schematics of the 04/05 ATP and the 05 Sportsman I decided against. One, I couldn't find all the parts I needed at a reasonable price if at all. Two, I found that both 05's were virtually identical less the turf mode and tail light configurations. It was a good call on Titaniumman's part just wasn't going to work for me. I just got mine running this week and everything seems to be working fine. I did take some advice from Titaniumman Garage about the 04 wiring, I did purchase an 04 ATP Differential Solenoid Switch and rewired it to match my 05 so I'm still able to use turf mode. I like to keep my equipment in as close to the original working order as possible and this seemed to do just that. Hope this helps, good luck and thanks Titaniumman Garage.
