  • In September 2013, Philippe and Anna Gatta left the small village of Simikot in the Western Nepal, aiming to run the high route of the Great Himalaya Trail in less than 40 days. Running the High Route in less than 40 days is the equivalent of 40 marathons in 40 days with 15 passes over 5,000 meters and two over 6,000m. This film tells their story.

    Awesome achievement!! In 2003, a friend (Martin Cox) and myself ran the complete Annapurna circuit in 4 days. We were very pleased with ourselves but this really puts it into perspective!

    Its crazy to think that the likes of Gatta and steck aren't already in folklore like Messi, Ronaldo, Bolt etc.
    Messner ain't a household name either, i guess people just don't want to comprehend what all these people have done/do.
    It's considered insanity! And it probably is..
    But Wow.
    Thankyou very much for your amazing films. Contact the BBC and tell them this footage has to be seen in British households. People will love it.
    Stay safe.

    And I'm glad my music helped putting some feelings into this video summarizing the adventure! It helps us, the audience, glimpsing at what such a journey means to you guys...

    Bonjour Philippe,
    Penses tu que la pratique de l'escalade en salle soit une bonne préparation pour l'alpinisme?
    Comment arrives tu à financer toutes tes expéditions? As tu une autre activité pro à côté ou es tu entièrement tourné vers l'aventure?
    Encore bravo et merci de faire rêver à travers tes vidéos

    • @philgatta
      @philgatta  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Merci Julien. L'escalade en salle c'est bien mais c'est trop éloigné de l'alpinisme pour pouvoir l'exploiter en montagne et cela ne remplace pas l'expérience à aquérir. Il faut donc que tu fasses de la montagne d'abord encadré pour progresser. Pour mes expés j'ai une activité pro à côté et parfois une aide mais cela devient trés difficile. Bonne chance.

    Hello Amazing acheivement and very beautiful movie you have made. I can see that the cyclone stopped you from doing Tilman pass but was just wondering this stopped you also doing Amphu Labpsa and Sherpani col etc into Makalu area? Was this also part of your original plan but stopped by the snow from the cyclone?

    • @philgatta
      @philgatta  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thanks.
      Amphu Labpsa and Sherpani col have been closed after the Cyclone, very sadly several people died in avalanche in this area.

    Large part of the trail goes through restricted areas (Dolpo, Manaslu etc) where 2 trekkers and a guide is compulsory. How did you manage to go without? Without permits?

      Philippe Gatta you seem to have used a bivvy. I am planning to walk across from Manaslu to Dolpo. There are teahouses in Manaslu and Annapurna.
      My concern is from Kagbeni to Rara in Dolpo via Charkabhot, Dho, Phoksundo, Shey Gompa, and Phogaon. I have a tent weighing at 2kg. But do you think it's sensible to carry a tarp and bivvy instead for sleep system. I have -5c sleeping bag n thermarest Z Matt. I plan to do n finish this in mid-September to early-November.
      Dolpo is relatively barren n in high altitude. Do you think it's a good idea to make tarp tent camp with a bivvy?
      Thank you

    • @philgatta
      @philgatta  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it is your decision, of course a tent, matt, etc. is more comfortable but it is heavier and then it will slow you down. I did not carry any tent, tarp but I have a -20c sleeping bag which got wet during the rain and snow falls. Do not except tea house in high Dolpo.
