I wanted to relearn how to sew. So I thought too make a kiss quilt. Used 9 in blocks to make a queen sized quilt. I stumbled across your channel while trying to learn, your are fantastic and down to earth. Made it easy for me to figure this out, maybe since relearning to sew, a quilt probably shouldn't have been my go to😂😂😂.

I always tend to over complicate things too. So I had to laugh when you spent 2/3 of the video talking about how to use a plethora of rulers to cut a 10 1/2" square!! And then you said you tend to look to the left and didn't see the 2 pinks together but the funny thing is that those 2 pinks were on the LEFT to begin with! I recently made the Moda Love Challenge quilt using a layer cake. I have to use my queen size bed as my design wall. I laid out all the blocks and took some photos. Then started sewing rows and dang it if I didn't have a same square next to an HST of the same fabric - not once, but twice!! I unpicked the blocks - thank goodness they were on the edges. But if you've done this, you know it's more complicated than just ripping a couple of seams. I ended up with 2-3 partial rows to sew back together. But it's done and now I can't decide if I want to quilt it myself - I only can do straight line quilting or cough up the money to send it out. Being a single senior, I'm leaning towards doing it myself. I do appreciate a simple block or rectangle pattern though. They're a good palate cleanser!

I have 3 fabrics, all flannel, 1 with baby elephant in pastel blue and gray, 2 solids powder blue and gray.
My question is.. since I love what you did here I do need a larger block since elephants are large pattern. what seam allowance would you use so I know what size to cut my blocks.
This will be for our 1st great grandson due in June. I'm not using batting I'll back with another flannel.

I made quite a few KISS quilts using 5” squares last year. I just wanted to sit and sew and not think a lot. They turned out pretty cute, but I’m kind of embarrassed to bring them to the long arm persons since they are so simple. Most of the quilts they do are much more complicated. And with a shoulder injury I can’t move a quilt through my domestic machine right now. So they are still waiting. Oh, I plan to make move of these using layer cakes with different simple blocks, but still using the KISS method.
Thanks for sharing this. It looks great!

I'm so glad you told us what a KISS quilt is because being a relatively new quilter i've never heard of a Kiss quilt before. I hope that your friend likes it when you take it around to her, but i think this could be a single digit childs quilt or a double, treble digit girls quilt, it is so good for all the ages.
