    I am a 60 year old female on a fixed budget and your video gave me the courage to replace the shifterinterlock on my Chrysler 300c myself! I can not express how grateful I am, this saved me $100.00. Your instructions were so easy to follow! I did have one problem, I was not able to remove the shift handle so I slide it into drive and was able to lift the upper housing enough to replace the part. Thank you again ❤️!

    Thank you for your amazing videos explaining in detail how to do this. I am 56 years old and because of your video was able to replace this myself. I created my own short video of this and posted it for others to see how easy it was. You saved me a lot of time and money . The dodge wanted way too much to fix this and I did it for just $25.00 (for the part) and a little bit of my time. Again, thank you!!!

    Thanks guys for your reply. The saga continues: at the repair parts store, they require to know which is the part, LATCH" or "ACTUATOR", and they both seem similar. You did not discriminate, though. Mine is a 2006, 300 C, Hemi, and the part is located to the FRONT of the shifter assembly, towards the RIGHT side. I believe I will have to extract the part FIRST, then buy. Thanks again. (emoji s**t)

  • @neild167
    @neild167 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did this repair. Made sure the new part was oriented to the left like he said. Put everything back together, but now the transmission won't engage, other than that everything seems okay, although I can hear like a low clicking noise inside the shifter mechanism when I apply the brake. I'm wondering if maybe one of the cables slackened up and needs to be adjusted, like a linkage problem, anyway, I'm holding off on disassembly again for now until I learn more about the causes, and maybe someone had the same problem or has knowledge of this like the guy that made the video.

    • @neild167
      @neild167 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found the problem. It was just something stupid. I rushed it a bit the night I finished it and didn't snap that black plastic piece back in place that he talks about at the beginning of the second video, so as a result, the shifter just moved freely without resistance like the cable was broken or something.
      Then I was thinking about whether I should pull off the white (press-on) piece again before doing the black piece, so I don't break the little plastic finger that pokes through the hole. Had another look at the video and then went out and just snapped it back without messing with anything else.
      They got a metal Dorman replacement at O'Reilleys', and it was around 40 dollars; that's the one I got. Great video!! Would have been perfect if I didn't screw it up myself, but it's good now though.

    Thx again MotorCity I don't know how many times you have have helped me solve my problems watching your videos and I do agree with short fuse and yourself Haters will be Haters,I got one question this problem just happened to me last night on my way home,I was in Autostick mode and noticed this car in front of me locking up there brakes, I was going kind of fast so I downshifted and hit my brakes to avoid smashing her,well after the light I noticed a check engine light pop on my car then went into limp mode ,I got it home but had to drive it slow because it felt like I was in 3rd gear stuck ,I put my scanner on it and got a P0700 ,Got up this morning and noticed I couldn't get out of park,Do you think this could have caused the P0700? I just got home from work and I'm about to tear into it right now,Thanks again for all your great videos! and keep up the good work!

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its hard to say what might be the cause. Code P0700 is a generic code that only means that there is a code in the TCM so you have to access it to see what codes might be present. Not sure why its not letting you out of park.....could be same issue as the video but its odd that it happened right after the other issue. Its work checking for sure and getting all the codes checked is the next step once you can get it to start and drive. Thanks for being a loyal follower Anthony

    Dodge had a recall on this part (Recall #K39) but apparently they did not extend the recall timeframe long enough. Mine broke on Sunday and when I called the Chrysler Group Recall Assistance Center, I was told that my car was manufactured almost a year before the faulty parts were used. Clearly this is not the case because I did not break a well-built, sturdy, reliable interlock lever. It is a poorly made part and Dodge knows it. It is a costly repair, if you don't want to attempt to fix it yourself and Dodge needs to take accountability and extend the recall. I was told that if enough complaints are made, they can open an investigation and possibly extend the recall to more people. If you had this problem, please call the Chrysler Group Recall Assistance Center at 1 800-853-1403 and ask for a Dodge representative and tell them your experience. Save your receipts for service and maybe you can get reimbursed.

    David, you are the man! My 05 Magnum R/T AWD interlock just failed. Wish I had found your videos first. Messed up my shifter because I have a threaded shifter not the slide on style. Now if you could tell me how to get the shimmy out of the car at 65 to 75 mph I'd be in hog heaven. Yes I have had tires balanced and rebalanced and the alignment all checked, tires too! Thoughts? This started happening after the car took a hard bounce due to a hidden speed mountain under the snow.

      @MotorCityMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad that you eventually found the video.....even if a bit late. As far as the shimmy.....thats something that takes trial and error and alot of driving and looking over. It never seems to be the same thing each time so nothing that I can point you towards right off the bat. Sounds like alot of the items have been covered so far. There are things I can fix in words.....there are others that I need to get my hands on like in this situation. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe

    My Magnum randomly is stuck in park. As if it’s a few mins. delay…. sometimes I jus shut car off pull key out. re apply brake turn key start car up then the car either shifts effortlessly out of park OR I gotta do it all over again! WTH… years ago we replaced that pink plastic part with a metal one.
    Do u think this metal replacement part needs to b replaced again? I took magnum to repair shop, was told they had zero issue getting Magnum out of park no matter how many times they had tested it out. I told em it’s not always stuck delayed in park, and asked them to check it out so it can not randomly happen anymore! They stated next time it’s stuck in park call us! I said it gets stuck in park but it does not stay stuck…. what SHOULD I DO to end this annoying process? I thank u for ur time!

    Hello! I would love if you could answer my question. I recently did this to my 2005 chrysler 300 and I did everything in the video properly. The car itself is fixed now, but in the process I developed some issues with my door sensors saying my front two doors are open when they're closed? Is this problem im having related to this at all? Could I have possibly triggered an electrical problem?

    an even easier way is to pry up the chrome bezel (pops right off) you will see cable (towards the driver side) use the screw driver to pull the cable towards the driver side while pressing the brake pull down into gear. no need to remove anything unless you just want to.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Boyd That's the recommended way to avoid a tow bill for sure....but make sure to get it fixed so you don't have to keep doing that. It's a cheap fix and only requires a little bit of time.

    • @jamesboyd740
      @jamesboyd740 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm curious what the piece is actually for? I grinded off the ear with the broken hook and have been driving it every day since no problems. You still must press the brake to disengage park and everything seems exactly the same.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Boyd It's a safety feature to prevent someone from taking the trans out of park with the key out or the brake not being depressed. Stops people from getting hurt and/or damaging stuff.

    • @jamesboyd740
      @jamesboyd740 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      like I said. i removed the entire side of mine with a die grinder and you still must start the car and press the brake before it will come out of park. so I see no point of it as of yet

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Boyd it's a combination of ignition key and brakes. It has an electrical override and mechanical.

  • @localconsumer4078
    @localconsumer4078 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    WTF! Just to note. You dont have to take out the ashtray, heated seat switches, nor the CONSOLE.....Jusus man!. ALL you need to do is, once you have the chrome bezel out, the rubber dash tray out, and the black ABS under the chrome bezel out, ** theres 4 10mm bolts around the shift mechanism that come out. Then you take out the shifter cable, and so forth. Taking out the console is good for workspace, but is so unecessary, and just ads about an 1hr of unecessary wasted time.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      E. Martinez Actually there are two styles....one you can get to without removing the console and then the second version. The second version extends further under the opening towards the rear of the console and there isn't enough room to take it out. Not all the shifters are the same shape and length that's why.

    • @localconsumer4078
      @localconsumer4078 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok, ill try it your way, since I trust you being a Mopar mechanic.........

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Like I said....just depends on the shifter you have. Look down in there were the back 2 10mm's are and see if the shifter continues under the cupholder assembly. If it does.....unbolting the console and sliding it back about 4-6 inches should be enough room to remove it then. Thanks for watching and for the comment

      MotorCity Mechanic the guy's key was also stuck in the ignition. Turns out the cable where the white cylinder is was popped out & i had to push it back in & push down on the locking clip. hopefully it holds up...i went ahead and put in the new piece he bought from Chrysler just in case it was to break in the future. car only has 30k on it so everything looked great, not sure why the interlock cable popped out

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      M Escobar Evening, the reason why you hear a click sound is that the shift interlock cable is operated by the ignition. The click is the shift interlock being released so that you can take the shifter out of park. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe
