People often say Nigel is boring etc, but he just treated racing like it was his job, he came across as a regular guy you’d meet in your local

Hard to believe the great man is 67 now. He'll never be older than the man you see in this video to me!
One word sums him up: courage and talent. Two, TWO word sum him up: courage, talent and determination. Um, THREE words sum up the great Nigel Mansell...
    Etc. ;)

He's a true drivers driver, and definitely deserves a knighthood rather than Lewis Hamilton. He's driven with a broken back at his lotus test drive, a house hole in his back that he drove with in his 2nd Yr of INDYCAR. And has a medical wound paper on his injury as no-one has survived from.

Dont have to put anyone down to state your point. Not a hamilton fan either, and might in the end agree with you, but I think we have to be better examples as fans than that. We have too much hate already in sports, especially against Lewis and Max

F1 does NOT exist anymore. Or should I say, "F1" may exist, but Grand Prix/Grand Epreuve racing does not.

Agreed. F1 now is a joke. So many rules and gimmicks that you need a university degree to understand it. What's all the Sprint race nonsense?? Or drivers being disqualified, demoted 5 places, given penalties for the smallest reasons. You used to have 16 races in a season. Pre qualifying on Friday morning, practice on Friday afternoon, proper qualifying on Saturday and the race on the Sunday. Simple. The top 6 places would win points. That's what happened when I watched F1, from 1984 to the end of the 1996 season. Those years were the best era of F1. In my opinion anyway.

I started watching F1 in 1984. Nigel Mansell is my favourite F1 driver ever. The blown tyre in Adelaide in 1986 showed how great he was. The way he was able to control the car after his rear tyre blowing out at 190mph took a lot of skill. Especially when you see how slowly and safely he parked the car at the side of the track. Piquet can keep his old flannel to himself as well. I always found him big headed and arrogant, but without the charm and humour.

    • @stuartbritton4811
      @stuartbritton4811 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Piquet was never arrogant and always charming and funny. He was countercurrent to the other drivers and had a freethinking head on him. Prost liked him, but Mansell, Senna, Balestre and the do-gooders hated his nonchalance and nonconformity, mistaking it for arrogance.

@@stuartbritton4811 You are so on the money re Piquet.... Always a friendly guy who was easy going.... The British Press created a false narrative about Nelson. Niki, Alain absolute legends liked Nelson. See how those who worked with him rated him.... One small correction.... Balestre loved Piquet and had a huge soft spot for him.... as did Ken Tyrell Sid Watkins and Denis Jenkinson.

Some say that Mansell was a tosser on the comm radio during races..but it was because he was so emotional and gave 110 % all the time!...Mansell was always exciting to watch anytime he was on a track.. Even when Mansell went to Indy I was so excited!.. in 93 he changed indycar that year alone! ...what a roller coaster ride that was!...

The same folks who say that probably write columns praising Lewis Hamilton. ahem...
Il Leone was my favorite driver of that time, along with Jean Alesi, and Nigel Mansell will ALWAYS be one of the greats for sure. And yes, four oval wins in his rookie Indycar season to go with the championship (and a road course win too) was something else!

One of the original Bad Asses. I'm a (American) Alan Jones fan who loved AJ's style of aggressive "attacking" his competitors which is why I was sad and angry to see him retire.
But thankfully Mansell and Rosburg finally got into some competitive contraptions to keep me happy and entertained. So yeah, as a fan , I'll never forget this guy.
Especially since he came over here to CART (kicked ass) and showed my friends, family and co-workers why I loved F1 so much - because that game was no joke. And neither was Mansell of course.

Fools will mock you but you are correct. Mansell is still the most exciting driver I have ever watched. He humiliated Senna on many occasions and was too genuine to manipulate a whole team to serve him. He deserved 86 title, dominated 87 and with reliability should have 91 too. More than Senna. He took all but 1 pole in 92 with a fast team mate and that is no easy feat.
In that era Senna is over-rated and strangely Prost and Mansell are under-rated. This is no coincidence.
Lets be clear; Senna blocked Warwick in 86 from joining Lotus claiming they couldn't support 2 competitive drivers. Dumfries was a rich journeyman and look at his performances driving Senna's spare parts bolted together by an old man and his dog. He finished, what was it, one race from the first ten? That car with the whole team around it was maybe best of the year but Senna didn't do what Nigel did. 87 the Lotus was a Senna team and the only car with active suspension but again Senna failed to make appropriate use of it. Honda loved Senna so abandon Williams to keep their engine with Senna for 88 and Prost comfortably outscored him despite obvious favouritism for Senna. Mansell took the slower Ferrari from 13th I think it was in Hungary 89 to pass Senna AND a backmarker to win. I have more if you wish but that's a sample for you. Senna was good indeed.... but not that good
People are vitriolic about Donnington 93 where Senna went from 5th to 1st in one lap but with a very driveable V8, ABS brakes and the best traction control on the grid. Schumacher went from 7th to 2nd in 4 corners in the dry at Spain 97. Even Senna didn't rate his Donnington drive that high.... fanatics will be fanatics but if you watched Mansell you know

Maybe a very boring man out of the car but honest and magnanimous with it and by far the most exciting and incredible wheel to wheel racer I have ever watched. I never saw Gilles as I was too young but I still miss Mansell, no driver in my years has been as awesome as him. ❤

I wouldn't say the best. Certainly one of the bravest and most determined. He didn't have the finesse of Clark, Fangio, Prost or Stewart. He was a great sportsman and had a never-say-die determination. A British bulldog spirit, if ever there was one. He could have used his brain better and could have taken criticism more lightly to focus on the task at hand. Didn't have the sheer natural talent of Clark, Senna, though, or the wileyness of Lauda. Didn't have the dominant confidence- the sheer belief of Schumacher or Fangio. I don't like to overrate or underrate any driver. Mansell was brilliant. But it was Fangio and Clark who were the masters. Untouchable. Villeneuve, Cevert and Jochen Rindt could have been.
