Thanks for sharing that... I'm such a hige fan of Lou. The day he died, i've listened to Sunday Morning and cried a little. I cried because i felt like i knew him because he was always next to me with his music. I never met him, you are the luckiest person in the world. Thank you again.
karyn, thanks for posting this interview. his ny album might be his best, at least in the top three or four. i feel like he was writing it for 2013 and not just 1988/89...his voice still speaks to people today.
Some observations: 1. I could fall asleep to Lou Reed's speech, it's so relaxing. 2. You are a beauty now, but, younger, you were truly stunning. 3. Starting off, Reed seemed weary of this being "yet just another one of these tiresome interviews." But, very quickly, he got just how sharp and astute you were, that you were someone that he could relate to, and really delved into the interview. 4. You are right that this "went well." It's, as are just about all of yours, a great interview.
This is a really nice bit. Sad to hear he'd died, but that's how it goes. I had not made a particular effort to seek his music, but a friend of mine had his Transformer album and we listened to it a lot on many occasions, and I enjoyed it very much, as well as a lot of the Velvet Underground stuff.
Karyn asks, in a round-about way, if Lou’s New York album would still be relevant in the years following its release. I think that is now a rhetorical question. R.I.P., Lou.
This is so great...! Can hear your smile the whole way through, and hear him really enjoying your youthfull enthusiasim not long in :) By the end just can't stop laughing. Thanks for posting this, Lou Is New York! to me
Great interview. I was at the 1st show of the tour in Princeton, NJ. My friends, The Del Lords, opened up. I was on the guest list so showed up early, around 3pm. Lou was already onstage. He practiced non-stop with one break to eat & let the Del Lords soundcheck. Once the room was filled with people, he transformed into Lou Fuckin' Reed. It was a perfect night.
Maybe the best Lou Reed album! Transformer has a few great songs on it and is seen as his classic album. The NY album was a much stronger album as a body of work- 25 years later and it still sounds great.
So glad the algorithm bubbled up with this. What a thrill for you to interview the King of NYCool when you were just a kid. Great job and even better memory for you! And I hope your brother got his Harley. 🏍️
Fantastic. What an amazing experience & great memory for you. Loud Reed was doing it all before anyone else thought it was cool. The leader of Andy Warhol's jazz band. Thanks for this blast from the past Karyn. R.I.P. Lou Reed.

Great job Karyn! You are as beautiful today as you were back in the day!

Nice upload. Love this record, too. "Straw Man," my favorite tune. Long way from Rampage Jackson to Lou Reed, eh?

that's badass!
did you ever cross your mind back then that you may be interviewing professional fighters for a living?
Then you are too young to know that it is rude to ask a lady her age.
