  • NDI is an interesting new video technology. In this video I show you how you can use NDI in OBS to add lower third lyrics to your live stream. While I demonstrate this in OBS, this will also work in Wirecast and vMix as they suppot NDI as well.

    Great video very useful. I have a question regarding pushing out multiple sources from the gaming PC to the streaming PC.
    I currently can push out my game to the streaming PC without issue.
    I can push my VLC to my streaming PC without issue.
    I have one scene with my game output and the other with my VLC output. I can switch to the VLC content once but, when attempting to switch back to the game scene nothing is displayed.
    Maybe this concept is not supposed to work and it is just made to broadcast only one scene to the streaming PC?

    Thanks for making those videos. They're helpful a lot. But I have 1 question: for propresenter stage display, do you need to buy a box at reviewedvision website to set other screen? At my church, I have 2 big TVs on the wall, 2 monitors on the stage and 1 projector on the back side. I want to make 2 monitors and backside projector are stage display, but I don't know how. Should I buy a usb 3.0 to HDMI and VGA output. And that outputs should be a input for 2 monitors and backside projector. Thanks !

    Thanks for this video! I am having a latency issue. We’re using Propresenter 6 on a 2018 MacBook Pro and coming into a brand new Tricaster Mini SDI. When I switch slides, there seems to be anywhere from .5 to 2 seconds of lag between the switch and the time the Tricaster registers the change. I’ve tried both the NDI Scan Converter and tried using NDI syphon method and the issue is the same. Any ideas why this would be the case?

I am sending my propresenter output via NDI to my stream computer with wirecast, however i cannot seem to key out the black background of the stage display. It keys out a green or bright coloured background perfectly but not the black background from propresenter. what you need to do is to update the plugins for Airsend from Newtek website and replace with the plugins.. to this directory
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Softouch\Easyworship 6, thats what I used to achieve my NDI source..

      OBS has a plugin called "Virtual Cam" that basically makes your OBS stream available as a virtual webcam. BlueJeans would have no trouble picking up that source. The answer to your question is yes, it would work just fine.

    Thanks for your excellent videos, I've learned a lot from them.
    One question though: when I tried setting up an NDI solution, I often found inconsistent performance with the NDI video source being slow to display (i.e. a slide change sometimes would take a second or two to be picked up by OBS). I've already made sure the two computers are connected to a dedicated gigabit ethernet switch, but the problem is still often very noticeable. Just wondering if anyone has experienced such slowness / performance issues with an NDI setup?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      NDI is pretty Network and CPU hungry. Usually the first culprit of slow NDI is being on wifi. The second is an overloaded CPU. What are you using to send slides to OBS?

  • @cchong8585
    @cchong8585 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks very much for the info. However I have some questions as follow:
    1. I have OBS installed in my surface pro 6 (core i7, 16GB ram, 512GB hard disk) and I'm currently trying using OBS software. Yet, if I want to use this OBS in church with NDI technology, according to your explanation, this can't be done with my surface pro 6 laptop alone because it does not have multiple video output card, correct? So, are you saying that the only way to do this is you MUST have a "desktop computer" with expandable option to add the video output card (with 4 output channel to different monitors)? If so, then all laptops (windows or mac) are not possible to use this NDI technology except only desktop computers (Mac or Windows). Correct?
    2. What kind of cables do you use to connect from one computer to the other using the NDI? LAN network cables or hdmi? connect them directly with each other or through a normal LAN network router where we use to connect to internet through a modem?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Not sure what you mean, depending on how you are sending NDI, you can send any display, you could send your main display, you don't necessarily need multiple outputs - but if you are using worship presentation software and want to send to your main screens, a stage display, and a lower thirds send, yes you will need to be able to send multiple display outputs.
      2. Yes, NDI connects over a network.

      @cchong8585 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BallastMedia thanks sir. Sorry for my poor English as a non native English user. Understood your explanation. I have two more questions as follow:
      1. If NDI signal is send over network over LAN network cables, if let's say I want to buy two PTZ optics cameras and use them with this NDI technology to connect with my surface pro 6 with OBS software, is there any extra hardwares do I need to connect them and control them with my surface pro laptop?
      2. To be able to use OBS software, do I need to purchase an extra display monitor and use it as a extended screen? Or I can just simply use my surface pro laptop screen is good enough? What is your recommendation?

      There are Debian packages available for download on the page that he linked for OBS. Vmix doesn't have support for Linux, but appears to have support for Windows & Mac platforms. NDI is a common protocol that is widely supported or available on multiple platforms, so it isn't tied to Windows, Mac, or Linux -- it just has some heavy hardware/network demands.

    Steve, I am using a Mac for ProPresenter 6 and a PC for OBS. I am currently running 2 cameras, but looking at adding a 3rd. We will go live on Facebook this Sunday. I would like to add another source coming from the Mac into OBS to show the video and graphics directly during the live stream. Without using NDI, how would that work?

    How much power do you need for ndi and OBS? Do you need a monster graphic card and i7 or i9 processor? If you have like 6-8 inputs, like cameras and presentation computer streams, what kind of computer is needed? Is the processor more of an issue than the graphic card or where is the power needed in a ndi-system? Planning for ndi in my church and I don't find answers on this topic, the computer power need.

    Hello... Thanks for all video's. I've tried this. But it doesn't work.... I have a separate computer for the subtitles. So two computers: a streaming computer and a subtitle computer. Both computers have 2 monitors. Both monitors of the streaming computer can be detected as NDI sources on both computers in OBS. But the 2 subtitle monitors can't be detected (Computer name does appear). I have looked everywhere... firewall, streaming facilities in networkcentre etc. Switched streamingfacilities on in "All Networks". The 2 subtitle monitors are not showing up as NDI sources.... But when I make a screencapture in OBS of subtitlecomputer (and made a NDI source on the streamingcomputer in OBS), it does appear in the streaming computer (its the main monitor). When I want to make a screencapture of the second monitor, it isn't there... What do I do wrong?
