I don't understand all the comments about Emma being under appreciated? She won awards, including best female vocalist in 1994, this song was in the top 10 of the charts when it came out and also had some success on the "ambient music" chart in Japan. Her album System Virtue was no. 5 and this Greenstone video was the most played NZ music video of 1994. What I would say though, is that you don't hear her songs on the radio much these days, yet other older NZ songs are played a lot (especially ones by The Dudes).
One of the most beautiful songs and talents our wee country has produced, I was blessed enough to hear this live and lucky enough to get a hug from Emma 🤩 ,that was in whakatane in 1995, if you read this its still one of my best memories🙏, hope to see you sing again live someday, so you have to come and perform in Ireland 👍
This is the song of my teenage years for some reason it encompasses it. Love Emma! I uploaded the track on my old TH-cam channel back in 07 when it wasn't on here and Emma herself commented ❤️
Youre so amazing! i saw you this weekend but was so starstruck i didnt say hello, my Mum used to play your songs to me when i was a kid. Biggest regret in my life not saying hello now, next time i will :)
Was just back in NZ for a wedding - bought some greenstone for myself and a friend in Thailand. In Levin LOL. Listened to this and System Virtue on the drive back to Wellington airport. Is the waterfall in this video the one at Piha? I have many happy memories of learning to surf and surfing Piha and Karekare. And Neil Finn was recording at Karekare around then
I was raised by my pakeha paternal grandparents, therefore wasn't exposed to the maori side of my culture. I was always more aware of my celtic side. But when I hear this song... it awakens a curiosity to explore.
One of the most talented but underrated NZ singer/ songwriters. What a beautiful voice. This song must be listened to through headphones, volume up.
took me ages to find this song from my 90s we used to sing this in primary school lol
