Surprisingly the lga1700 kit was in the box but due to the misleading information on the seller's website we already proceeded to ordering the kit. I was slightly impressed when I first saw the cooler because I thought the whole thing was just a hunk of aluminum. When Dawid pointed out the the top part is just plastic, I was like "ah, I should've known. How foolish of me to assume they'd spend slightly more for an actually decent cooler." AMD is definitely more generous with providing a proper stock solution.

      @rtrd First of all, there's no need for name calling. Secondly, you're right. The temps are fine right now, but wait till summer when it's 90°+ outside. If you're sitting in your room playing all day, do you really think it'll be hovering around 65° inside that caseafter a 2 or 3 hour gaming session? I mean it's possible if he has the AC cranked up all day but let's be real. When I mentioned that AMD offers a better stock solution, I was referring to their spire and wraith coolers. That's not to say they don't have a garbage one as well known as the stealth. But at least they offer 2 other options instead of none at all.

      I know there is a huge aftermarket for cooling and that makes sense when overclocking, but if you're in a room with a reasonable temperature and have typical airflow these stock fans are fine--which is exactly why intel includes them. It would cost Intel a trivial amount to make a larger heatsink, but they clearly do not believe it's needed.

    Nice video Dawid. Just 2 little details. The stock cooler has improved again. They brought the copper slug in the center back. Starting with Haswell, Intel stock coolers were purely made from aluminium. Right until the last generation. And about the cooler compability on LGA 1700. Some aftermarket coolers will fit in theory. The solution from ASUS is nice but dangerrous. Since LGA1700 has a thinner substrate than previous generations, many air cooler either won't make proper contact or there will be the danger that mount gets overtightened and the socket, mainboard pcb and even CPU could be damaged. Happens mostly with entry level coolers. That is why ASUS only does it on the high end boards. Watercoolers and simular high end cooling solutions usually don't have this problem.

    I bought the regular non-F version a couple of weeks ago, and I can't wait to build a new system with it at the end of the month when my college schedule isn't so chaotic with constant assignments! Hahaha. Anyhow, going from an i5-9600K to an i5-12400 should be a nice upgrade for me! Especially since my 9600K's lack of Hyper-threading is only becoming more and more noticeable as time goes on. 😅

    • @d2factotum
      @d2factotum 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you already have 6 real cores I'm not sure hyper-threading helps much, and the speed hike from a 9600K to 12400 is only about 25%, so I'm not sure I'd call that a huge upgrade...

    • @doabrad1850
      @doabrad1850 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@d2factotum It won't be an enormous difference, but it'll certainly be a decent performance gain! Like, when considering the L3 cache, going from 9 to 18mb of L3 will be very helpful in CPU heavy games like Assetto Corsa Competizione, which puts my 9600K on its knees due to the lack of Hyper-threading and relatively low L3 cache by today's standard. I mean, even the i3 12100 has more L3 cache than my 9600K, so I feel its a good time to upgrade. Plus, I'd rather upgrade now while I can still sell my 9600K on the used market and make a decent profit from it. 9600K's will obviously not be worth as much in a year from now as what they are today. It's not a bad CPU, but ultimately, I upgraded to the i5-12400 because I want the peace of mind of being on a platform that'll easily last me the next two and a half to three years. Not to mention, outside of gaming, the extra performance of the 12400 will make general desktop use much snappier. I don't know if it's an issue with my 9600K specifically, but it handles Windows 11 horribly. Gaming performance on Windows 11 with my 9600K is a nice improvement over what I experienced on Windows 10 (especially regarding connection stability in multiplayer racing games), but general desktop use feels like I'm on a Sandy Bridge Pentium with a learning disability. Oh, and I have my Windows install on an NVMe SSD, so the storage device I'm using is not the problem. So, hopefully, with the higher L3 cache and Hyper-threading of the 12400, it'll make the general desktop use of my PC a bit smoother. If it doesn't, then it likely means my Windows installation is corrupt and I'll have to start fresh with a clean copy. I hope that's not the case since, with my online college classes, I can't afford to have my PC out of commission for multiple days. Combine downloading and installing a fresh copy of Windows 11, optimizing my install for the best performance possible, as well as downloading and installing all my games and applications on an internet connection that feels like it came straight from 2005, it's no exaggeration when I say installing a fresh copy of Windows 11 would be a week long project. It's taken that long in the past! 😅😭

      @@doabrad1850 Fair enough. I guess I tend not to bother upgrading my CPU until I've actually got something that doesn't perform well, which means I tend to have much greater jumps in performance--last jump was from an Athlon 860K to a Ryzen 2600, for instance, which is something like a 75% boost (more, for anything that uses more than four cores).

This essentially negates the low price of the Intel CPU as you're paying more overall. If you go with an AMD CPU not only, are you getting a good CPU for a low price, you're also not paying for an expensive motherboard. Though although this is a budget CPU, this is more so a high-end budget build. At the lower end, AMD still beats Intel in price to performance.
      I'm sure LGA1700 boards will get cheaper as time goes on, but that doesn't make AMD's CPUs any worse. In conclusion, you saying that AMD CPUs are no longer a good deal is still wrong regardless. Both are good CPUs, no need to bash the other just because you like one better than the other.

Sata ssd's are really cheap now such as the mx500 for example, for psu's I can't say directly because it depends on the area where you live. In the meantime your 9600k has an integrated graphics so you can technically use that before you find a dedicated graphics card.

    This is really bad CB20 performance for the 5600x.
    In other Benchmarks online it seems to Hit about 4500 - 4700.

    I can't believe Intel made a fake plastic extension on the cooler that looks like it's heatsink....

    I dont think a.m.d. will be quaking in their boots.
    The ryzen 5xxx chips run on much older boards which are in huge supply and comparatively cheap.
    In fact, my buddy is just thinking about upgrading his 1700x on his asrock x370 board, they already do a bios for 5xxx.
    He was foresighted enough to use 3200 cas14 ram, so that is not a problem.
    A.M.D. are still selling everything they make.
    Intel will have to unlock everything on B660 and all cpu's before I would even be tempted.
    I am never fooled with the transfer of pricing to the boards either, the cheapest B660 ATX board I would use is £168 today and I also have doubts about intel getting more single thread performance out of the next compatible cpu's.
    Basically its a dead platform already.
    With cache stacked am 4 chips coming and am 5 just around the corner this launch from intel is too little too late, and they already screwed over 11 series buyers.
