Journeyman Distillery in Michigan has some 100% wheaters Corsets, whips, and Whiskey And Buggy Whip Wheat are both pretty good. I tasted them on a tour. I took home Buggy Whip.
Great review! One point, for the 100% Wheat Whiskey, I've never seen a full size (as in 750 ml) bottle. All of their single grain series seems be bottled in 375 ml size.
I get vegetal notes on almost all four grain bournons from small distillers who are using their own grain. AD Laws four grain 8 year BiB has an almost bell pepper note on the nose and palate. I get grass and white pepper on the Frey Ranch four grain nose but not when I sip it.
Yeah that four grain was not for me specifically for the vegetal notes. I'd love to like their stuff because I think their ethos and process is great. I'll keep trying.
Our whiskey club hosted Colby and Ashley a couple of years ago where I was introduced to their whiskey and am a big fan of their cask strength offerings. We have a club rye single barrel pick due this month. Looking forward to it.
I have had only 1 bottle from Frey ranch. It was a bourbon single barrel pick and I really enjoyed it. Very interested in trying more from them. Cheers

There are no cheap Texas whiskeys. They are all small production and cost a fortune compared to KY legacy distillery products. I think you are saying you think pot still whiskey tastes bad.

Haha those are the funniest tasting notes but when your right your right lol.... I had a bourbon flavoring of cauliflower the other dayblol
Frey Ranch is great stuff. Just grabbed a single barrel Bourbon and Rye.
I love the rye and Cask strength offerings.

With my very limited experience with Frey Ranch, they were the best whiskey I had in 2023. That was their regular releases.

Love the Frey Ranch bottle I have. I did buy their 375 smoked grain and it's not something I can drink neat, might be good as a mixer.

Check to see if they ship. They are too small to be distributed in all 50 states.
