yes, it will work but just like anything else, the better the tool the better your results. So if you want to improve your work I would recommend investing in a better cutter. Hope this helps!

For circles I've tried a circle cutter and haven't been impressed. So I've been doing my own cutting (which is OK) but knew you'd have some tips to make my life easier.

I do not use oil :)
