      I started watching I think back in 2019? I love seeing all the birds being raised on their property and homesteading. I want to get into homesteading myself but am stuck in a town that won't allow it unless you own 5 acres of land. Watching videos like this helps me get ideas of what birds that I'd like to raise and to also keep in mind of where I live that these birds could survive in. Ayam Cemani's, Silkies, and Barred Rocks are my dream chickens. I'd probably keep quail on the side. I don't know yet.

    This really reminds me of a speech several years ago by paul harvey, 'so god made a farmer' (many of us know if from the Ram superbowl ad I think in 2014) and in the speech is this bit: "God said, "I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt. And watch it die. Then dry his eyes and say, 'Maybe next year.' " This video proves to me that the courage to continue is what counts, (Churchill). I hope you have a more successful year in 2022.

    The peacock really need some space.... The male is supposed to display his train properly in order to attract and mount on the female... The eggs Belle laid were infertile that's why no development occurred despite them being brooded on for that long

    They really do need to be 3 years old. We had eggs from my grandfathers mature Peacocks and I put them under our best broody hen and we hatched out 4 young ones, when they got to 1 and 2 years we got eggs but no babies. Year 3 they had babies but crushed them. Year 4 and on they were successful. They really do take a long time to mature and get it right but they are so amazing and beautiful and so smart we love them so much. Keep trying and don't give up! One day it will happen. Love you guys and all your content

    I had a horrible year trying to hatch peafowl too. I spent so much money on eggs but about 1\3rd of them fully developed but just didn't hatch out. This coming spring, I'm going to try putting them under broody hens too. One breeder said she has cochins sit on her peafowl eggs for about a week and then puts the eggs in the incubator and had a lot of luck that way. I have one pair that is just now maturing so I'm going to try some of these things with their eggs but I'm not buying anymore eggs until I figure out how to hatch them.

    Peafowl require lots and lots of space! We didn't have success until we turned them loose on our farm. The females are extremely picky and like to be wooed with lots of show over several days before they will let a male close. Out of 5 females we had two that reproduced successfully. Good luck!

    Our 2 year old white peafowl had at least a couple of fertile eggs of the 4 she laid. One was eaten by coyotes, and one actually hatched - but only lived 2 days. No obvious reason why - just failure to thrive. We will try again next year. I can tell you that if the male cannot fully show off his tail, she won't let him near her, so maybe once they are in a larger area (the Aviary) you will have better luck with fertilized eggs. Let's hope for a better 2022 breeding season!

    Is there something that is ... special to hatching these eggs?
    I read an artical from a German peafowl breeder. He wrote when the temperature is too hot you get a lot of crooked legs and that the turning from the incubator about 45 degrees is not enough. Once a day turn it 180 degrees.
    I am sure you know that already but I am impressed about what I read about them, that they are much more intense in the incubator

    • @keioftheabyss9167
      @keioftheabyss9167 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I mean... there's a difference between farms close to roads and farms close to hunting grounds. They already had an issue earlier this year with people or something hunting their homing pigeons. Imagine if the peacocks went loose? We don't know the personal situations between other farms. We don't know if they permanently clip their peacocks wings to stop them from flying or escaping. Jake's birds are in a temporary setup until the giant aviary is finished. Which if I remember from a couple videos ago, he stated that when they had an inspection on the aviary, the people conducting the inspection stated the planned layout is going to be a lot bigger than they thought and would be more than enough for all the exotic birds on their farm. From what I know from all the years of watching this channel, they tried free ranging their peacocks and I believe Blue took off onto the neighbors property. This became a hazard in the chances that Blue could've been killed if he would've flown into power lines or out onto the road. Where they are now, hunters outside the property and predators pose a threat.

    Sad to see you work so hard and not get the results you desire!One of my mates had an issue with baby ducks at his farm for 3 years before success. They would hatch out however every week 1 would die until they were all gone. All the best next season family, hopefully they will be fertile😊

    I feel the pain. My one peahen hid a her eggs somewhere and didn't try to hatch them. The other, my all white peahen, disappeared into the woods to nest and never returned. I have my pair penned now so hopefully better luck next season

    I own an exotic animal sanctuary in California and hatch peacocks. The only time I have ever had peachicks survive is when I fed them gamebird starter AND wore them in a baby sling for 4-8 hours a day. I know that sounds strange but every baby I have ever wore in a sling and kept mother like contact with has survived. Babies I have incubated and moved into a brooder with other exotic birds always died when the other birds inside thrived. Every year I am the crazy woman wearing a baby sling wiry peachicks inside until they are so big they won’t stay voluntarily any more. It’s time consuming and strange but, I have the friendliest birds who visit seniors and medically fragile children and let people love all over them.

    Since it could be getting cold u need to make sure they keep them warm and I would recommend an box or something big for them to sit on the eggs and it would be warm I did that with my cocktail

    How do you keep so upbeat and positive after these tragedies because honestly losing a hive as well as a high infant mortality rate with the peacocks? I feel it would crush me.
