    In drawing class I tolled my teacher that I "knew" how to computer animate. I really only knew how to do BASIC motions and very basic modeling. My teacher asked me to bring my animation to school to show everyone what I do. I knew i had to learn some cool stuff in maya right away, and you really took the load off my back. Thanks!

    Thanks, got me working in more detail than simply using the Visor defaults in Maya 2013.

    You can create a leaf in XGen, export that using I forgot the format and apply it to particles , you have a tree full of leaves using Xgen. No tutorial from me, I'm trying to understand Expressions in Xgen; as you said your tutorial will help many. :)

      That sounds cool. Xgen is great too :) you could use this technique to create a few different tree variations and use xgen with assembly definitions to create a forest!

      Yes, you can also use MASH to create forest, although I think XGen is better method for nature. Then again, maybe you can use MASH with XGen, although I don't know if that is possible, just a theory.

    Thank you! Excellent tut for a VERY complex program. A couple questions, please:
    1) Judging by the high polygon overhead you discuss, I take it that *VUE* still has a place in realistic scene creation?
    2) Does *Paint Effects* come with a way to integrate rocks and small areas of boulder-strewn land?

    i wonder why my tree cant show the leaves at my view port(it just all plane), it only show in render window, any solution? im using maya2016 sp6

    When applying the flat tree meshes in the background (or the tall grass pieces) it isn't transparent for me. I'm using Maya 2018 Arnold Renderer. I've turned Opaque off in the render settings as well.

      you must affect aistandard surface material to your polyline geometry bebore rendering in Arnold

    When I convert from paint effects to polygon the UV mapping on the tree-trunk busts. i see you have the same problem in your video. How can I stop that from happening?

    Maya 2017 in combination with Arnold does not render the transparent parts of the pngs but makes them black instead. Do you maybe know how I can solve that problem?

      select the object you are applying the transparent material to and go to the attribute editor. Under the Arnold tab uncheck opaque. That may help

    How do i get the forest to rotate with a camera and not perspective? Cant find how to do it anywhere

      I have the same issue, the rotating planes (background bushes) only rotate when the perspective camera is moved, but not when any other camera is moved. How do I make them rotate to face another camera?

    how do you set a target for painting? I was trying to put grass on a hill and it would always put it on the world xz plane

      Thats alot of geometry Archie and what Maya is trying to do is calculate the positions every frame. If you delete the history after converting to polygons you should get better feedback.

    At 8:20 when you turn the viewport renderer to *Legacy* I ran into a problem cause maya 2019 doesn't have legacy, it only has 2.0 and Arnold
