    I have the Martin Logan ICs, so I was pretty excited to see this comparison. This helped to reassure my thoughts and feelings from my own experience. It also eliminates any buyer's remorse I may have had from spending a little extra on them compared to up-firing or elevated...and also buying additional speakers, as I plan on adding two more ICs in the near future.

    hi there...I'm so late joining this conversation but I hope to get some advice. I can't use in ceiling speakers for my 5.1.4 setup so I'm thinking of using 4 bookshelf speakers -2 mounted at the front up on the wall just under the ceiling and 2 at the back-my sofa is in the middle of the room. The Prime elevation would be nice because they are already angled but I wonder if just about any other speaker would work too...for best results, should these speakers be mounted aligned with the main L and R speakers at the front and in line at the back too? or should I place them in the corners? And for calibration I would call them Height or top? so many options . I have a Denon AVR-X4400. Thanks so much!

    I know i am asking this a few months after you uploaded the video but i just discovered you channel and it is awesome!! I would like for you to make a video of best 4k blurays again (updated i mean). I want to ask a question, i have dali atmos speakers (elevation) . I had set them at 110hz and after i saw your video i set them at 80hz. i did not have time to watch any demos i will today, but do you think that there will be a difference at all or not, because the sounds coming from those speakers at 110hz were very few and when they came out i could not understand most of the times they were coming from the elevation speakers. Do you think i sohould set them at 60 or 70 hz? Thanks great video, great channel. PS: a video with how to calibrate samsung 4k tvs would be great

    I am really happy you made this video. You can hear the difference of the speakers through this video. I can hear the ceiling speakers and SVS height speakers have higher frequency range.
    The atmos enabled bounce sounding speakers have a lower frequency range. They tend to sound a little weaker with less Bass.
    I would choose ceiling speakers or SVS height elevation speakers over the atmos enabled.
    But it is nice to hear that Atmos enabled speakers work fine as an option

      Refer to AVSForum. UpFiring Atmos speakers._____ forum members posted are setting atmos speakers +6DB over the AVR Auto Eq calibration values.
      As well many members have great results with Atmos crossover frequency of 100 or 120 HZ. I myself as well with my Klipsch RP500SA's. Don't pass judgement on Atmos Enabled speakers until one tries 100 HZ cutoff and +6 DB over value from auto eq

    A question Villaman, I just bought a 65 inch LG with Dolby Vision, Is it true that it only runs through a 48gbit 2.1 HDMI, because I want to buy a Marantz SR5013 Reciever that lets dolby vision passthrough , but is a reciever passthrough HDMI connection also 2.1 , or does it downscales to 2.0b 18 gbit or something, I can never really find in the specs, or has a Dolby Vision passthrough receiver per definition a 2.1 HDMI output ?
    I have a Minix SJ22 Mediacenter with Dolby Vision/Atmos HDMI 2.1 output , but is it wise to let it passthrough the receiver for the video signal ?
    And regarding to Dolby Atmos, do I have to buy a specific speaker for the ceiling, frequency wise, or can I buy two passive ceiling surround speakers ?, so not build in but attached to the ceiling.

    • @ThaVillaMan

      Firstly that should be placed above the LR if you’re mounting them in on your front walls. And when doing that, the speaker should maintain a 30-45deg angle to the MLP.
      If the wall is too close, the angle might be too great (above 45deg) and too far and it’ll be too little (below 30deg).

    Just bought some Klipsch atmos speakers which I’m going to wall mount and definitely not on top of my speakers, this vid definitely confirmed that, I would have liked to roof mount some ceiling speakers, but the wife acceptance factor wasn’t good, so I bought 4 of them for high on the walls

    Love the video, I had a question though.....
    Noticing the placement of your floor standing and bookshelf up firing atmos speakers, did you try (at any point in time) elevating the speakers more so the atmos speakers were above your ears so you wouldn't be able to hear directionally where the sound was coming from? I have to imagine in your seating position the atmos speakers would be at or even possibly below the level of your ears? Yes? No? Maybe so?

    hi Villa_Man
    I have a 16 x 16 living room. On the left side of my TV is a double sliding door that leads to the back yard, on the right of my TV is an open wall that joins the living to the kitchen. My ceilings are 9 feet high. I will be ordering a set of Ash SVS Prime Pinnacle floor standing speakers for the front (left, right), and a Prime Ultra for the Center channel. I will also order two sb2000 subs. I would like to install in-wall speakers for the rear surrounds, as well as 4 in-ceilings for the dolby atmos. Would you recommend I install the EM-IC by Martin Logan, or the Helos for in-ceiling? Also, what in-ceiling speakers would you recommend I install?
    any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Nice video. I am getting ready to convert a basement storage area into a nice 7.2.4. Been thinking about using the SVS heights in lieu of the in-ceiling for the only reason of trying to limit sound-bleed from the basement to the family room and kitchen above. In a different video you mentioned putting the heights on the side walls vs the front and back. Can you tell any differences with that? My screen size will be 135" so if I do a front/height they will be literally stuck in the upper corner of the room. Also, thinking about dual PB-2000's in my 16'x20'x9.5' space. I saw your other SVS sub videos and wanted your input on that too. (the dual SVS PB-2000 were what SVS recommended when I called them but I wonder if I should go bigger). Thanks!

    Great video. I’m shopping for in ceiling speakers for middle height Atmos, would you still recommend the electro motion ic for this? I will be using Svs prime elevations for front height & rear height and it looks like the ic matches pretty well w/ those. Thoughts?

      @ThaVillaMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! So you want to be using in-ceiling AND elevation speakers together?

    • @kevinhaworth6761
      @kevinhaworth6761 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tha_VillaMan, correct. Going for a 7.1.6 setup. 2 SVS Prime Elevations directly above main front channels for front height & 2 SVS Prime Elevations directly above rear channels for rear height with the ML ElectroMotion ICs providing middle height. Ceiling height is 8 ft otherwise I would use a 3rd set of SVS instead but these would intrude on the space too much. TIA.

    • @ThaVillaMan
      @ThaVillaMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohhh I understand. The ICs are really good and will definitely match well with the SVSs, but I’d actually recommend the Helos 12 instead.
      They’re also from ML and I have them in the rear, and I think they actually sound better than the IC.

    Good video, well done, very interesting. Still got two questions :
    why did you put your svs prime elevations above front speakers instead of on side walls, which seems to me closer to Dolby Atmos specs?
    Do you have rear svs prime elevation too and where did you place them?
    Thanks and keep up the good work!

    mGreat video - hits home. I'm trying to make this very decision. With my 7 foot flat ceilings I was concerned about the options. Currently took my backs (from 7.1 to 5.1.2) and raised them up to about 6 feet... I am hearing "bubble" sound from various ATMOS tracks, but these are not wide apart and sit behind window blinds (wood slats not metal). Certainly not idea and the back wall is an outside wall with two large windows. So been looking at up-firing (Klipsch or Definitive Tech) or the Elevations (SVS). In ceiling mount is possible, but I worried about the 7' height and can only handle 5.1.2 on this AVR.

My receiver can only add 2 Atmos speakers, I currently have them in-ceiling in the back of the room just forward of my seating position. Could you recommend better placement?

    • @ThaVillaMan
      @ThaVillaMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you only have 2 speaker then having them slightly forward of the MLP is the correct position. As for my test I had speakers in the front and in the back of my room th-cam.com/video/SAlyZJjwv20/w-d-xo.html

    One of the things to consider is that with the elevation speakers you get physically more space that atmos can “place” objects around you, therefore representing what the artist(s) intended better
