I am really happy you made this video. You can hear the difference of the speakers through this video. I can hear the ceiling speakers and SVS height speakers have higher frequency range.
The atmos enabled bounce sounding speakers have a lower frequency range. They tend to sound a little weaker with less Bass.
I would choose ceiling speakers or SVS height elevation speakers over the atmos enabled.
But it is nice to hear that Atmos enabled speakers work fine as an option

Refer to AVSForum. UpFiring Atmos speakers._____ forum members posted are setting atmos speakers +6DB over the AVR Auto Eq calibration values.
As well many members have great results with Atmos crossover frequency of 100 or 120 HZ. I myself as well with my Klipsch RP500SA's. Don't pass judgement on Atmos Enabled speakers until one tries 100 HZ cutoff and +6 DB over value from auto eq

hi there...I'm so late joining this conversation but I hope to get some advice. I can't use in ceiling speakers for my 5.1.4 setup so I'm thinking of using 4 bookshelf speakers -2 mounted at the front up on the wall just under the ceiling and 2 at the back-my sofa is in the middle of the room. The Prime elevation would be nice because they are already angled but I wonder if just about any other speaker would work too...for best results, should these speakers be mounted aligned with the main L and R speakers at the front and in line at the back too? or should I place them in the corners? And for calibration I would call them Height or top? so many options . I have a Denon AVR-X4400. Thanks so much!

mGreat video - hits home. I'm trying to make this very decision. With my 7 foot flat ceilings I was concerned about the options. Currently took my backs (from 7.1 to 5.1.2) and raised them up to about 6 feet... I am hearing "bubble" sound from various ATMOS tracks, but these are not wide apart and sit behind window blinds (wood slats not metal). Certainly not idea and the back wall is an outside wall with two large windows. So been looking at up-firing (Klipsch or Definitive Tech) or the Elevations (SVS). In ceiling mount is possible, but I worried about the 7' height and can only handle 5.1.2 on this AVR.

    • @ThaVillaMan

Firstly that should be placed above the LR if you’re mounting them in on your front walls. And when doing that, the speaker should maintain a 30-45deg angle to the MLP.
If the wall is too close, the angle might be too great (above 45deg) and too far and it’ll be too little (below 30deg).

Hey! Glad I could help. I think you could mount it either way, depending on the layout of your room. Just make sure in whichever case the speakers are pointing towards the listening position

Hey, I bought SONY SSCSE, enabled speakers, can I put them directly ontop of the sofa, pointing downwards? (I want to use then as, IN CEILING, speakers for dolby atmos) I already bought them on black friday as a deal and I'm not trying to buy other speakers

    hi Villa_Man
I have a 16 x 16 living room. On the left side of my TV is a double sliding door that leads to the back yard, on the right of my TV is an open wall that joins the living to the kitchen. My ceilings are 9 feet high. I will be ordering a set of Ash SVS Prime Pinnacle floor standing speakers for the front (left, right), and a Prime Ultra for the Center channel. I will also order two sb2000 subs. I would like to install in-wall speakers for the rear surrounds, as well as 4 in-ceilings for the dolby atmos. Would you recommend I install the EM-IC by Martin Logan, or the Helos for in-ceiling? Also, what in-ceiling speakers would you recommend I install?
any help would be greatly appreciated!

@@ThaVillaMan Really to do a representative comparison you need to set all 3 speakers to same rolloff frequency. I know the elevation speakers are full spectrum so analysing comparative can get confusing. On your video I tried to focus on the missles sound overhead. Which the upfiring represented well. But from my experience PLACEMENT of Upfiring speakers is extremely important. Location and distance from ceiling. Uping DB of upfiring is essential for exquisite tuning. The ear results are not the same as microphone detection thru AVR.

    • @ThaVillaMan
      @ThaVillaMan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Larry, you are correct on the microphone not totally representing what the ears perceive, but that’s why I gave my personal experience also.
I don’t think limiting the frequencies of the in-ceiling or up-firing speakers would be an accurate comparison because they both would be crippled and that wouldn’t really represent reality. Either way, I appreciate your perspective, thanks!

I am actually planning to mount bookshelf speakers to my ceiling this weekend, so nice to hear that that is a thing. Hopefully going 5.2.1 will be a nice change over my current 7.1.

Great video.. I have two questions, so I have an all Klipsch system with the RP-820f front and the RP-500SA atmos module which i have them mounted as Front Height. Currently i have everything set at 80 hz. so my two questions are, where should crossover my sub (currently at 80) and also where should I crossover my atmos front height speakers? 80 or above ?

Great!! Please tell me if the configuration 5.1.4 is really a upgrade from the 5.1.2? Do a I really have more immersive experience with 4 speakers above? My room in 5x6 meters. Thanks

nice!! been waiting on this video, I currently have 2 Klipsch CDT-3800-Cii ceiling speakers, and 2 R-41SA wall mounted speakers. Was wondering how the Klipsch RP-500SA sound to the SVS elevation speakers? hopefully, you can get some and do a comparison.

I’m glad I was finally able to publish it. A lot of people were asking about it. Thanks for watching!
I don’t know if I’ll get the chance to review the Klipsches, but I’ll be sending the SVSs back soon, so I most likely won’t be able to compare them directly

Hello, is there any difference if i set the front heights as top fronts or viceversa or the same sound goes no mater what you assign them?

Are you OK with 2 ceiling speakers for Dolby Atmos or is there a big difference with 4? You thoughts on Martin Logan Helos ? And if 4 speakers is that much better than 2 is that require certain movies that produce additional sounds with 4? Is the 2 better quality speakers (martin Logan) still better than using 4 less expensive speakers? thx in advance

A question Villaman, I just bought a 65 inch LG with Dolby Vision, Is it true that it only runs through a 48gbit 2.1 HDMI, because I want to buy a Marantz SR5013 Reciever that lets dolby vision passthrough , but is a reciever passthrough HDMI connection also 2.1 , or does it downscales to 2.0b 18 gbit or something, I can never really find in the specs, or has a Dolby Vision passthrough receiver per definition a 2.1 HDMI output ?
I have a Minix SJ22 Mediacenter with Dolby Vision/Atmos HDMI 2.1 output , but is it wise to let it passthrough the receiver for the video signal ?
And regarding to Dolby Atmos, do I have to buy a specific speaker for the ceiling, frequency wise, or can I buy two passive ceiling surround speakers ?, so not build in but attached to the ceiling.
Your video's are great to watch, thanx for the info and the clarity , keep up the good work.

second to this: if i have front height speakers, which mode should i choose in receiver for best atmos: atmos or front height? if front height i guess its just normal 7.1 system. hope you could clarify this for us. Thank you.
