I saw the live in Tokyo. Great music again. I think I was about 20 years old, there was great music nearby and I was nailed to the fashionable and handsome paul.
What a great band! Paul Weller has so much soul in his voice and music for being a British artist! His music with the Jam and Style Council sounds better today than it did back then. That to me is an accomplishment. His sound never gets old
Can't stop listening to this amazing track, takes me back to the eighties, my better half who is not with us, this was me and you, the best thing that ever happened to me love you
Timeless love song, I agree! And to Paul Weller - yesterday, today, and tomorrow - will always love him. I'm a big fan since I was 12 years old in the 80's. Where did the time go?
I actually enjoyed some of Paul's more politically-toned songs. Critics were and are still harsh about his shift from The Jam to Style Council. I never really got that since I had only heard of Paul when Cafe Bleu came out. It's one of my must-have-copy-all-the-time albums. It never fails.
In an MTV world of the mid 80's, Paul Weller, Mick Talbot and the Style Council musicians gave us all something very legit and special. This is one of the BEST EVER examples of "Blue Eyed Soul' chosen few, maintaining their legacies throughout the 60's, 70's and 80's and beyond. (Righteous Brothers, Ambrosia, Average White Band, Style Council, Hall & Oates, Lisa Stansfield, SavageGarden). A big thanks to Ichnos71live for this quality post and informative footnotes. Great visual and sound.
@com1969 I'm pretty sure it's Anthony Harty playing on the video, good Coventry lad. Watched him live last night and he's got an album launch on Friday (its called Baggage) in Coventry. He keeps nicking by backing singer Caz to sing in his band. She's is cousin so at least he has an excuse. He's a consummate musician and plays drums, bass and all types of guitar.
Was the song for me and my one true love but he couldn't stay because i didn't turn out to be the best thing :'( Jools blue goodwill you will always be the best thing that ever happened to me.
Paul Weller is King of 80's British Pop. I loved him then, I love him now. This is one of the best love songs ever written. Poetic.

Indeed, this is an amazing track, such wonderful lyrics.. it touches me...
lovely. fell in love with this tune and the style council all those many years ago, he never plays this anymore unfortunately.
It was written for what would now be an ex I think
Lisa Stansfield covered it a few years back. That's an honor.

This is holding up very well. 25 years after its release. Timeless I say.
37 years now! I discovered the style council in 2020 lockdowns!
若い頃のポール・ウェラーってほんとめちゃくちゃかっこいい!!懐かしい思い出は永遠に!!
one of my loveliest songs
It don't get better than that...
The guitar Weller is playing here is an Aria Pro II PE-175 'Herb Ellis'. Japanese-made, so he may well have bought it during this Japanese tour.
Brilliant . No differant from a record/cd!!
thx for putting out the detailed story behind it....Cafe Bleu was an amazing thing in 84...in 2008 I finally bought it again on CD,,,,

@markmod64 very touching brother , keep the faith
👌🎤🎵❤
he should do a small venue U.S. tour like CS&N are doing now...definite sell out...
PLEEEEEEEZ
What a great tune by a phenomenal talent. In his solo career has he ever played this live? If not, why?
Who's the base player? Great bass lines
I've been thinking that for years. What a beautifully melodic yet understated player.
おいおいtokyoのライブか!
Eternamente Weller 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
His voice sounds so different when he doesn’t sing in his natural London accent.
and who was the backing vocal during this tour, does anyone know? is this before dee joined tsc?
I felt bad for Paul Weller not able to do well in America, because of his thick English accent which nobody understands.
It might help that when he tours the U.S. he played a few more Jam and Style Council songs, especially this one.
