This sound is more accessible now these days, but back when these videos first came out, there was nothing like it. This and Sunsetcorp. Simply ethereal.
What I like about early Vaporwave is that it kept the ideological value of the genre intact in the production values. This track using a sloppily chopped up, endlessly repeating loop of a chorus in various speeds and pitches holds inherent commentary about the nature of capitalism and the way it masquarades as innovative while endlessly regurgitating the same things. Plunderphonics could never ever carry this kind of ideological baggage.
Negativland also does that with captalism but they just straight up say it on your face with noise! And they are a lot more quirky... But it doesn't come close to Plunderphonics in vaporwave at all.
God, this feels like I'm stumbling onto something long forgotten. Those little flashes of different video here and there really add to the thought that maybe there's more to this, and I honestly love it.
One thing you gotta love about Vaporware is how it shines a spotlight on the little niches of entertainment we either saw once very briefly somewhere or didn't even know existed. It just passed our attention in the thick mist of saturation. But it left enough of an impression to appreciate it
