    Fantastic review. I appreciate the 'in travel' video and the extra in the field shots. Have used North Face rolling thunder on several international trips to have them destroyed in only a few days... This would be an exceptional upgrade... Thanks again for the review!

    Great Video review! Question: What is your experience with your cases going through TSA checks? How do you lock your case? And has anything been stolen from your case?

  • @donaldmartin3365

    The large foam blocks are pretty slick. How well do the dividers, both the yellow and Trek Pak, protect your gear?

  • @DeepBlueandBeyond
    @DeepBlueandBeyond 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review thank you! Couple questions: Do you lock them? Do you ever worry about checking them with full gear inside? I'm a Divemaster and will be traveling around the world in 2018 diving and need something that I can depend on to carry my gear along with video equipment. Thanks!

    • @HenryOrtlip
      @HenryOrtlip  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes I lock them. I don't check-on my A-Camera or lenses in the cases. those I roll as a carry-on. I do trust my drone and b-cameras to the cases. It's not protection I fear, more so security is why I carry on my most valued gear. These cases will do the job for you, I guarantee it.

    I bought the 1615 and the 1535 the day they were available at my distributor I love my 1615! The 1535 is cool but with no top grab handle I find it not as user friendly... now my 1615 has flown over 300 flights in the year and a half I have had it. I live out of this thing 5 days a week and it is the best case/suitcase I have ever owned hands down! It shows some scars but I can’t imagine what a regular bag would look like after that many miles. I use mine plain with packing cubes and padded cases inside also I added a lid organizer from a smaller case I had just to put some little stuff in. For $210 you cannot find a better case! Buy one is my recommendation.

      I think they updated the design of 1535. I bought the 1535 on black friday a month ago from pelicancolorcase.com and it has the top handle, its very slim compared to the main one, but its there. Im an otr driver and I just pack all my stuff into one 1535 and one of Loctote drawstring backpack. Very good for traveling as well, since its theftproof.

    Was looking at the 1615 for a while, but then they came out with the 1626 with the new press/pull latches which seem to be a much better design. Also has a bit more space which is mostly in the height of the case which turned out to be very important to my gear needs.

    • @bloodymarvelous4790
      @bloodymarvelous4790 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the 1626 as well. The space is also a bit more usable I feel. It's deeper, so I can put stuff above and below larger fragile items as well. Deeper cases just seem to pack easier, though they make finding what you need a bit harder.
      The major downside is that there is no TrekPak or divider system available for the 1626 (yet). You can get pick-n-pluck foam, but that's probably the least practical one. Its best use is as an empty bin you can throw your things into, not so much for things you need to keep organized. I use it for SCUBA gear, and it's great for that. Just throw in your fins, BCD, wetsuit, and whatever else you wanna bring. The more fragile stuff like regulators, dive computer, and masks come with me as carry-on.

    Firstly, thank you for doing this video. I just have a couple questions... 1. Do you put your camera in these when you check them through at the airport? 2. If not, what carry on solution do you have for your camera?

    I´m in the middle of buying a new bag/case for Luggage as I will be traveling a ton in the coming 16 months. I´m a photographer and most of my gear (except for the odd tripod or spare bag) lives as carry-on in an F-Stop Loka backpack. So protection for my luggage isnt the biggest deal here, but I like to buy to buy stuff I dont need to replace every 12 minutes. I have been looking at Rimowas since their quality is legendary, but then again they´re veeeery pricey. The 1615 isnt as much, but over here in Europe it still costs me well beyond 400€. I already own a Peli Air 1535 with Trekpak insert I use almost daily in my car - I love that thing and thought a larger version would do nicely.
    So, leaving the price out of the picture, would you recommend the Peli over, say, a Rimowa Topas Stealth? The Topas has 4 wheels, do you miss that on the 1615, especially walking through large airports etc.? Any tips how to organize/setup this case for luggage use? My 1535 has quite hard wheels, are they similar on the 1615?
    I´d be happy to hear from you and thanks for the great review!

    • @HenryOrtlip
      @HenryOrtlip  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Phillip! Just as I have said in the video-- I would and have gone with the Pelican. I used the trec-pack when I made this video but have switched to the yellow velcro. I love how I can change the interior of the case based on the shoot and what I need to bring. Only having two wheels is fine because it is luggage, not a carry-on. Hope this helps! thx for the comment :)

    Have you had any trouble with your equipment moving with the new TrekPak material instead of the foam? I’m about to buy one and can’t decide. I’m worried the TrekPak system might leave room for my lenses to move too much.

    hey! I bealive this measurements limit is not for every company. Ryanair (EU) lets you travel with higher dimension , so the next model, air 1637 that is deeper, is also suitable for the planes i guess,or maybe just Ryanair.. Just bought mine. I saw European websites(Thomann, music shop) that sell this bag saying that this is the maximum you could travel with what is weird... hope to don't get any trouble in the end.

    Is the 1615 too big for domestic checked bag restrictions?

    Anything larger and they charge extra.

    • @HenryOrtlip
      @HenryOrtlip  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 1615 is the max size for a checked bag at 62 inches total. You can not carry on this case, way to large -- The 1535 is a nice peli case, but it was too small for me. I use Thinktank bags for my carry ons. If you check out my "what's in my bag" video, I go over the luggage I use. hope this helps!

    would agree with everything, fantastic cases and perfect for what i need, carring elctrical test equipment and lighter tools, very robust. however in my experience the pelican service/warranty claim is non existent. ive had three cases, and two issues (one completly my fault) i broke the latch on my 1615 air, i just wanted to purchase a new latch. both times ive filled in the online form for contact and given all details, never had a single reply apart from the auto response that a ticket has been opened. after that nothing, ive tried e mailing them, nothing, ive called and been told the relevant personn will call me back, nothing, so pelican like many companies nowdays say they have a service back up, but its false they never reply, so your left with a $500 dollar case that you cannt buy spares for and cant use.
