I’m 100% with Natalie. This season is not attention grabbing, it’s mostly awkward and more cringey than normal. I don’t think there’s a lot of drama, just slightly strange people. Also, coming from DC, it’s such a STRANGE choice of a city to choose from. Like the single scene is not poppin here and it was overall an underwhelming group of people (from a reality tv pov)
I don’t like any of the couples and once that happens (like Love is blind Mexico) I just have no interest in watching. I have more fun watching the reviews of the show now lol
I agree Garrett's reaction at finding out that Taylor wasn't white was alarming. First that he was so discombobulated at the thought of dating a non-white, and then the way he flipped the emotions he was experiencing at that moment to suggest some nefarious purpose on her part when all she was doing, was being true to the experiment they both signed up for. They look all sweet and cute now, but the last time I ignored a major red flag like that in the pods was Steven and Sabrina and we see how that turned out.
My theory is that they didn’t follow Leo because he had such potential to be toxic or dangerous enough to get them sued. The meet up couch situation was way too big a red flag

Tim in the very first episode said he bought a shirt just out of spite bc the person he was dating at the time didn't like it and that set up him as the fact he is constantly instigating even tho she is clearly annoyed. That with a girl who deals with anger issues and is drinking lots of alcohol is a recipe for disaster. They just simply do not work, and Alex putting her hand on his mouth is completely out of line. I just wish we could know more about what occurred/sparked the fight. And I feel like a physical altercation even 'minor' (which we didn't see it so I don't know if I would consider it minor or not but her putting her hands on him in a negative way is not okay in any shape or form) production shouldn't allow them to continue imo
I watched that scene closely and I know this is a bit speculation, but I swear it looked like his nose was scratched up, and when he said he was “called out his name”… for a black man, I feel like that is something bad, including exploitative words and slurs. I hope I’m wrong but he looked absolutely hurt and done and that’s a man that seems to work hard to NOT be part of situations like that. He seems like a good, mature man to me and I liked him and Alex but I think she fumbled. Also based on later scenes like when he goes to meet her parents and he’s coming from the hallway makes me think he came from somewhere other than the place she lives at. I think it had to be BAD BAD for the producers not to show it.

I think buying a shirt for HIMSELF against the wishes of the person who he was dating is simply resisting someone’s attempt to control him. I don’t see anything wrong with that. I see something wrong with expecting the person you’re dating to dress how you want. I personally think pushing back is better than allowing them to be overly controlling. For both you and the controlling person who could benefit from learning boundaries and what they do and do NOT have a right to dictate. I’m not sure he was trying to seriously push Alex’s buttons. It seemed like he was being goofy and didn’t know when to stop. He seemed to lack self-awareness and assume Alex was playing around even when it started to become more obvious she was really irritated. I didn’t pick up a vibe that he was TRYING to be pissing her off or happy that she was mad. But I’m not saying that wasn’t the case.
Watching season 7 after watching UK season 1 is like waking up Sunday morning hung over after a Saturday night in college. Realizing everyone was fighting and mean, no one is talking to each other and you feel like you are too grown for this stuff that wasn’t even fun. Nick reminds me of Barnett before Barnett was likeable. I think he and amber are great together.

This season is not it I agree with Natalie. I’m not super into anyone or care enough if they get married or not. So many of them seem so artificial. It’s also boring. Especially following the UK one which was 10/10.

I think ultimately Brittany wanted a guy that would pay for her OR she realized Leo was her last option to get on TV. And I think something happened BTS with Leo so production didn't like him, therefore gave him a bad edit and couldn't continue filming with him.
I've got a theory about Leo: I don't think he and Brittany weren't chosen as a featured couple because they didn't make the top 6 storylines. Just the opposite, it was probably one that already had a "good" storyline which is why they got so much screen time in the early episodes even though they wouldn't go on to the rest of the show. I think the real reason they weren't "chosen" is because Leo wasn't playing ball or did something to piss off producers, and as a result they both booted him off the show AND gave him a bad edit.
I could by this theory. I think it was probably split between the producers whether or not to follow them given that they had six other pairs which is apparently the max given their film crew and it was clear neither of them wanted to get married and just wanted to either stay on the show for clout or use it to boost their ego, but in the other end there was still more they could have gotten for more messy content. This felt like a decent compromise to show them in the pods and then let the audience know how it went, betting on them to break up which of course they did. The producers can also use this as more evidence that they know what they are doing when people wonder why they don't follow all of the engaged couples each year.
I read an article that said that they didn’t choose Leo & Brittany to go to Mexico because they knew the relationship wasn’t going to last (Accor to Brittany). They only showed Leo’s storyline because they had already chosen to follow Hannah’s story & they couldn’t show Hannah’s story without including Leo’s story.

When it comes to dc, the vibe about politics is verryyyy different than most other places (in my experience). Most people around dc are constantly talking about politics and it’s more common to hear it literally any/everywhere you go in both public and private places. It would’ve been hard to do a DC season without showing political talk because it’s literally apart of the conversational culture in this area. Many people base their social groups and relationships off of it vs it just being a background fact about someone you know
This “glow up” comment from men is absurd. Many of us in our 30s now actually look “better” than our 20s simply cos there has been health care/ beauty info explosion in last 15 years. We know how to eat better, skin care, to actually sleep , how to dress for our bodies, and work outs that are good for us… a lot of men trying to compliment me have said this recently and it’s really hurtful. I don’t remember hating how I looked back then. I was happy w myself. Saying someone used to look bad is so weird and rude. Any man who’s said it to me in the last few years has gotten the opposite effect of their likely intention and made me not want to be around them. Grown men saying glow up is as icky as it gets especially when it’s in regard to what is often best case scenario mild fatphobia.

I too at first liked how well Bogdan handled the rejection. He was smiling and seemed very laid back, which was not what one would expect from a guy who was deeply in love with someone. Which does not mean that he was not. I don't know. I think he was either not very deeply in love with her, so he was able to breeze thru' the loss in a very positive way and with a smile on his face. OR it is a coping style of pushing unpleasant emotions way down, something he adopted when he was younger, experiencing a lot of losses in life. This coping style can be very positive for people around him but not healthy for him..... unless he finds a way to express and process them.
I think Chelsea is very insecure but even in the show when she's around her girlfriends she doesn't show insecurities. She put on a big front around other people.
Brittany just wanted to go on a free trip😂😂She didn't care how she got it, even if it meant saying yes to marrying a man she didn't like much less love.

Leo’s behaviour looks to me like straight-up verbal/psychological abuse and the beginnings of coercive control. I hate to imagine how much worse that could get in a committed relationship. And the mind-f@#% that would be inflicted on his partner. He seemed very aware of what he was doing. With the buffet of abuse red flags he was already exhibiting in such early stages, I imagine Netflix would avoid the risk of having another abusive guy on the show and the potential lawsuits and PR crisis that could ensue.
that's why I like that the producers make the alcohol available for the couples. Better to find out about these sides to people you probably will marry in the pods, or at the honeymoon. Rather than finding out after the papers are signed.

As someone whose culture is very important to me, I think I understand where Garrett was coming from. It's not really about ethnicity in terms of how someone looks, but more that your culture and values are part of who you are and your personality too. That was my critique about Taylor, that it's not actually possible to remove ourselves from the context we grew up in. I do see y'alls point though that on the flip side there are also racial and cultural stereotypes that can be a problem. I also agree Garrett probably didn't handle it the best, and maybe it would have been better to just talk about values and reflections on how growing up might have affected it. 45:14

I hope I’m wrong but he looked absolutely hurt and done and that’s a man that seems to work hard to NOT be part of situations like that. He seems like a good, mature man to me and I liked him and Alex but I think she fumbled. Also based on later scenes like when he goes to meet her parents and he’s coming from the hallway makes me think he came from somewhere other than the place she lives at. I think it had to be BAD BAD for the producers not to show it.
Maybe he was yelling or about to say something around the cameras that he would regret…

I think buying a shirt for HIMSELF against the wishes of the person who he was dating is simply resisting someone’s attempt to control him. I don’t see anything wrong with that. I see something wrong with expecting the person you’re dating to dress how you want. I personally think pushing back is better than allowing them to be overly controlling. For both you and the controlling person who could benefit from learning boundaries and what they do and do NOT have a right to dictate.
I’m not sure he was trying to seriously push Alex’s buttons. It seemed like he was being goofy and didn’t know when to stop. He seemed to lack self-awareness and assume Alex was playing around even when it started to become more obvious she was really irritated. I didn’t pick up a vibe that he was TRYING to be pissing her off or happy that she was mad. But I’m not saying that wasn’t the case.

Watching season 7 after watching UK season 1 is like waking up Sunday morning hung over after a Saturday night in college. Realizing everyone was fighting and mean, no one is talking to each other and you feel like you are too grown for this stuff that wasn’t even fun. Nick reminds me of Barnett before Barnett was likeable. I think he and amber are great together.
Britany got what she mirrored. Her internal version really didn’t get to shine.

This season is not it I agree with Natalie. I’m not super into anyone or care enough if they get married or not. So many of them seem so artificial. It’s also boring. Especially following the UK one which was 10/10.

And I think something happened BTS with Leo so production didn't like him, therefore gave him a bad edit and couldn't continue filming with him.

I've got a theory about Leo:
I don't think he and Brittany weren't chosen as a featured couple because they didn't make the top 6 storylines. Just the opposite, it was probably one that already had a "good" storyline which is why they got so much screen time in the early episodes even though they wouldn't go on to the rest of the show.
I think the real reason they weren't "chosen" is because Leo wasn't playing ball or did something to piss off producers, and as a result they both booted him off the show AND gave him a bad edit.
I could by this theory. I think it was probably split between the producers whether or not to follow them given that they had six other pairs which is apparently the max given their film crew and it was clear neither of them wanted to get married and just wanted to either stay on the show for clout or use it to boost their ego, but in the other end there was still more they could have gotten for more messy content. This felt like a decent compromise to show them in the pods and then let the audience know how it went, betting on them to break up which of course they did. The producers can also use this as more evidence that they know what they are doing when people wonder why they don't follow all of the engaged couples each year.
Or maybe the producers didn't want them since he has looots of money, Netflix would not be able to afford an expensive apartment and dates for him 😂
Maybe he can afford a great legal team…
I read an article that said that they didn’t choose Leo & Brittany to go to Mexico because they knew the relationship wasn’t going to last (Accor to Brittany). They only showed Leo’s storyline because they had already chosen to follow Hannah’s story & they couldn’t show Hannah’s story without including Leo’s story.
@@lanceareadbhari agree with this, Brittany made it clear she was looking to be a WAG and wants a man to pay for everything to maintain her expensive lifestyle, Leo gives creepy and dangerous stalker vibes and his behaviour towards Hannah who is whole other red flag.
When it comes to dc, the vibe about politics is verryyyy different than most other places (in my experience). Most people around dc are constantly talking about politics and it’s more common to hear it literally any/everywhere you go in both public and private places. It would’ve been hard to do a DC season without showing political talk because it’s literally apart of the conversational culture in this area. Many people base their social groups and relationships off of it vs it just being a background fact about someone you know
This “glow up” comment from men is absurd. Many of us in our 30s now actually look “better” than our 20s simply cos there has been health care/ beauty info explosion in last 15 years. We know how to eat better, skin care, to actually sleep , how to dress for our bodies, and work outs that are good for us… a lot of men trying to compliment me have said this recently and it’s really hurtful. I don’t remember hating how I looked back then. I was happy w myself. Saying someone used to look bad is so weird and rude. Any man who’s said it to me in the last few years has gotten the opposite effect of their likely intention and made me not want to be around them. Grown men saying glow up is as icky as it gets especially when it’s in regard to what is often best case scenario mild fatphobia.

I too at first liked how well Bogdan handled the rejection. He was smiling and seemed very laid back, which was not what one would expect from a guy who was deeply in love with someone. Which does not mean that he was not. I don't know. I think he was either not very deeply in love with her, so he was able to breeze thru' the loss in a very positive way and with a smile on his face. OR it is a coping style of pushing unpleasant emotions way down, something he adopted when he was younger, experiencing a lot of losses in life. This coping style can be very positive for people around him but not healthy for him..... unless he finds a way to express and process them.

Leo’s behaviour looks to me like straight-up verbal/psychological abuse and the beginnings of coercive control. I hate to imagine how much worse that could get in a committed relationship. And the mind-f@#% that would be inflicted on his partner. He seemed very aware of what he was doing. With the buffet of abuse red flags he was already exhibiting in such early stages, I imagine Netflix would avoid the risk of having another abusive guy on the show and the potential lawsuits and PR crisis that could ensue.

that's why I like that the producers make the alcohol available for the couples. Better to find out about these sides to people you probably will marry in the pods, or at the honeymoon. Rather than finding out after the papers are signed.

As someone whose culture is very important to me, I think I understand where Garrett was coming from. It's not really about ethnicity in terms of how someone looks, but more that your culture and values are part of who you are and your personality too. That was my critique about Taylor, that it's not actually possible to remove ourselves from the context we grew up in. I do see y'alls point though that on the flip side there are also racial and cultural stereotypes that can be a problem. I also agree Garrett probably didn't handle it the best, and maybe it would have been better to just talk about values and reflections on how growing up might have affected it. 45:14
Tbh I wonder if it was edited to make it seem like a bigger deal than it was. Taylor seems like she's got way too good of a head on her shoulders to let that slide and garret seems like a genuinely good dude (but ofc we never really know).

I'm 26, so take what I say with a grain of salt, lol...if a person made a joke where I'm the butt of that joke, I'd expect my boyfriend to shut it down. I also felt like that lady was a bit too aggressive for my personal comfort. Regardless, he didn't show that he had her back in that situation, which, unfortunately, confirms her concerns about him.
