    From the Californian King of smooth dirt and other stomp-based delights comes Marc Ahlfs' latest creation - the P19. Borne to satisfy the cravings of "Wall" era Floyd fans, the P19 does not disappoint.
    Here I do my best to convey its charms with a fairly standard Strat through a HIWATT UK Custom 50 Combo. I played the "Mother" solo at the request of Marc himself (hope it's passable!)
    Enjoy.
    BK

    Fantastic review Brett-as always. Killer chops, regardless of the bugger, those are what make things interesting. Very much appreciate your work. I bought this pedal because of this review, and anxiously waiting for it to come in the mail. Been looking for what this pedal does for over 20 years. Thanks!

    Thanks Brett!!! This clip was the deciding factor for me. I just ordered mine. The way you play and the tones you go for are closest to mine of all the clips available. I already own a Pig Mine, which I really like, and by all accounts this seems to be a further refinement of it, so I'm sold. Can't wait to plug in and go!!

    I have a Skreddy 'Pig Mine' and it's always full on, with some extra full on for good measure. I'd like to see the Pig Mine, Pig Flesh and P19 compared.

    Hi Burgerman,
    Great demo first of all! Nailed the Pink Floyd tone IMO.
    Just wondering what are the differences between the p19 and the Anarchy Audio: VAGIANT?
    I currently live in Perth and am thinking about pulling the trigger on the Vagiant to support fellow Aussie builders. Just wondering about your thoughts on these two pedals.
    Cheers!

    hi burgs, do you think a mojo hand colossus fuzz can cop the tones this pedal produces? I purchased a colossus after seeing you demos and now i want this. Just wouldn't like waiting 2 months or more for one. maybe a comparison video would be nice. Cheers

    Seems much more articulate than the Pig Mine, which I had and didn't like. I see he's no longer making the Pig Mine. My current favorite MUFF-like pedal is the Catlinbread Manx Loughtan. This one may be worth a look. Thanks for another great demo.

    Whats a good booster for this?

    • @sugarnap245

      Colorsound power boost ;) or the best modern clone is the vick overdriver

    • @whynottalklikeapirat
      @whynottalklikeapirat 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sugarnap245 Thanks - so - 10 years later my take is it doesn’t really need a boost per say, but as beautiful as the sound is as is, it CAN need some help in a live mix, and on that score the included mid hump option kinda comes at a bit of a cost in terms of what makes the pedal really shine. I believe Skreddy only included it because of popular demand, I am not convinced they found it essential as such. This pedal as I recall mimics not the setup of David Gilmour, but the sound of his solo guitar on comfortably numb as it comes out of a pair of speakers when you listen to the record. That comes with some upsides and downsides. One quality about it is that it is quite compressed, (as many Gilmour tones will be) and consequently boosting it, at least at higher gain settings, can easily cause a bit of an imbalance. I have used it with an en exotic RC booster AFTER the P19 which restores the dynamic range and increases touch sensitivity in some ways, but also makes it a little more overdrivelike, which I found to be a bit of a shame. I see where you are going with more of a classic treble-boost approach and that might be a fun thing to try if I come across one. But really it’s a pedal that should be allowed to shine for the occasions where it CAN shine, it’s not your pedal-for-the-whole-gig, kind of deal in most instances I figure. But such beautiful, sweet vocal tone and sustain. Did you try that combination? What guitar and amp?

    • @sugarnap245
      @sugarnap245 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@whynottalklikeapirat interesting! I actually don’t own it. I’ve ordered a clone of the p19 actually - but given its nature as david’s rams head big muff clone, I figured using the boost he used would make it shine. I use a Vick overdriver with some original fuzz faces and original big muffs and it does great

    • @whynottalklikeapirat
      @whynottalklikeapirat 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sugarnap245 Well - it’s gonna be interesting to see how it turns out. The P19 has a beautiful tone even at low gain settings so I imagine a boost of that kind might do particularly well there.
      Reason I asked about gear is that of course that these things in particular differ a lot with the amount of output from the pickups. My reference is also single coil - a CS strat usually into a 71 super reverb. For some reason I never really got into the whole treble boosting thing, it’s like almost the last frontier 😄.
      But I mean - depending on how close the clone is - like I said I don’t believe the P19 was designed to be a pure rams head clone per say but more like a “final processed record sound clone” as Skreddy allegedly figured that’s what a lot of people are usually looking for rather than copying Davids entire rig.
      There are things to be said for and against that approach as a path to a Gilmour tone, if that’s even the goal (its not mine), but Gilmour aside - I it’s a beautifully lyrically sounding pedal unto itself.
      It’s not a mainstay in my main rig, but only because of limited real estate and on that view it can be a bit of a specialised sound, and perhaps more importantly because as so many gainy lead pedals it’s eq’ed such that the transition from my meat and potatoes crunch and overdrive pedals becomes a little too noticeable and impractical, in terms of the consistency of where the general cut from my end sits in the mix - which is to say that like so many fuzzes it may need a bit of EQ fairy dust to make itself meaningfully heard in some contexts.
      A treble boost might be just the thing if it doesn’t ruin the rather finely crafted and easily gambled away quality of the P19 tone😄 …
