He's a treasured and important part of our musical economy. The MXR tradition is also a California tradition. We produce a certain kind of factory worker here when it comes to music. These are guys that work hard when at work. These are guys that love making musical instruments and are very proud of it. But California workers are also idealists in many ways. This means you get a little bit more magic out of them for the sheer love of music.

Nope, both analog octave up and down are always monophonic, so if you play two or more notes at the same time they will sound like a ring modulator. If you want a clear and polyphonic pitch shifting, go digital!
If u can’t find one and want it with out cash being an option, grab any Foxx Tone Machine clone u like the sound off... but none are as shaggy as the La Machine... a boss ls-2 and an EHX pitch fork for more versatility! Just chuck any dirty boost after the pitch fork and run A+B mix on the ls-2 parallel with the Foxx. Get the same circuit diagram with more control n U won’t get the Foxx rectifier freaking out with the sub running through the diodes unless u buy another sub pedal to run before that tho but way more to play around with!!!
can you compare the sounds of this Sub Machine with the EHX big muff deluxe? taking out the octave posibilities of course. Can you get this big muff tones with this pedal?
You can roll the fuzz volume off like this example.. 04:20 the tone of the sub is a bit dirty but that's just how analog suboctave works. If you want a clean sub, I'd look at a digital octave. Thanks!
What is the mic setup that you do on these demos? Like is it single mic'd, and what's the mic position? Do you do any EQ on the guitar before it hits the pedal and amp?
Pretty different actually. Rather compare de Fulltone to the MXR La Machine, that only has 1up. The Fulltone has Ge transistors so a little less gain and sounds a bit warmer, like the 60s fuzz, while the La Machine is based upon de Foxx Tone Machine that is a 70s silicone based fuzz, really huge sounding beast. This MXR Submachine is the same, with an analog octave DOWN added to the signal.
MXR LaMachine is basically a French Toast Octave fuzz in a sturdier package; both are based on the FoxxTone original. the Fulltone is by repute a tad sweeter, and cleans up better with the volume knob having more range.

limee 1 if you need another recommendation, just check mxr slash sub octave fuzz. I'm quiet satisfied with that. The plus feature is they add a knob to control up octave
Is the sub octave ONE or TWO octaves down? I have the MXR blue box which is TWO octave down fuzz, so wondering if this pedal would give ONE octave down (as well as octave up)...thus I'd have 3 octaves with both pedals? any thoughts?

Nope, both analog octave up and down are always monophonic, so if you play two or more notes at the same time they will sound like a ring modulator.
If you want a clear and polyphonic pitch shifting, go digital!

The MXR Blue Box has a much more glitchy/gated fuzz sound and two octaves below while the Sub Machine is only one oct below (plus upper). Thanks!
