    I am glad I found your channel! I have a 1995 R1100gs and still riding from that time and enjoying it! I have been fortunate to cross the North American continent several times including up to the Arctic Ocean. I enjoy seeing your modifications and look to upgrading some of the things you have discovered

      Thanks man,
      It's part of the fun. I recently installed new shocks, should have done that years sooner😉

      I’m heading across the country to visit a friend for the holiday next month. He inherited an R1100gs but doesn’t ride, and wants me to have it. I’ve been riding and racing for years, but a bit nervous given the weight of these things.
      Do they feel massive and heavy? I’m fairly small.

    • @M0Tourist
      @M0Tourist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sarahdell4042 The bike looks (and is) big and heavy, but it has a very low center of gravity and is very well balanced.
      When I bought mine it only took me 1 ride to build the same thrust in the bike as I'd in my previous bike.
      The weight of the bike is only a problem in 2 occasions i've found out... Once you drop it and if you've to push it... Moral of the story, don't drop it and pick the right parking spot :D
      The bike has 2 seat heights, so you can put it in the low position or eventually lower the bike slightly...

    I replaced my airbox. The sun had made it fade like yours. It's a big job. I ride mine through some rough roads in South Africa. I need to break mine down and repaint the frame. Rust monster...

    • @M0Tourist
      @M0Tourist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not just the air box that faded, but all plastics. In the past I've used some Muc Off products to wash and polish the bike, which brought the faded parts back alive.
      May be I should wash Red Rhino more often than once every 2 years :D

    I have the 1998 R1100gs and Bought it in 2006 and mine has 27000 genuine mileage on it .
    Great bike and sometimes I think I should sell and try something else , but it’s a classic and does it all pretty good.
    Got MRA Vario screen and it came with all bmw luggage.

    • @M0Tourist
      @M0Tourist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do like to try something else, I've done some demo rides at dealers just for fun.
      Currently speccing out the bike for more allroad/offroad riding.
      But I doubt I'll sell the bike ever... 2nd bike might be an option in the future, however the GS is a very good all-round bike...

    Leuk , heb een modernere motor die goed bevalt , echter blijf ik kijken naar de r1100gs , denk dat er eentje gaat komen volgend jaar

    • @M0Tourist
      @M0Tourist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      De R1100GS is echt een topper. Rijd als op rails, super veel stuur uitslag en behalve bij stilstaan voel je niet dat het een zware motor is.

    Nice bike with nice modifications! I am looking to buy 1996 model mostly stock(with ABS and heated grips) 70,000 miles for $1500. Would you recommend or do you think it might give me a lot of trouble or high expenses in maintenance. Please let me know.

    • @M0Tourist
      @M0Tourist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mileage itself is not a huge problem, i've seen plenty of them over 100.000 miles without much issues.
      There are 3 items to be aware of at that mileage, the clutch, gearbox and ABS (if it has any). All of them are pretty costly to repair / replace, may be up to the same price as the bike (i'm only familiar with NL repair costs).
      Other items to check are the tires, break rotors and -pads, these are normal wear parts but still costing a bit of money.
      For the price I wouldn't think twice, in NL you may get a pretty beat-up GS if any at all.
      As a final note, the 1997 model has a slightly better gear box and the 1998 model also has some nicer wheels (not bare aluminum).

    Nice video. Do you have the tall or shirt Windscreen? Does it help a lot as a toll rider?

    • @M0Tourist
      @M0Tourist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've the normal version, tried both but the edge of the tall one was in the center of my line of sight...
      The screen is a major improvement compared to the stock one and I'm very happy with it. I'm 1.92m and it helps a lot, it comes with 2 downsides... Less airflow on hot days and the top bolt of the headlight is obstructed...

    • @arslo
      @arslo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot. You also got a higher seat right? I am almost as tall so I think the shorter one should also work.

    • @M0Tourist

    How often do you regulate engine valves? And how often do you synchronize throtle body? How do you know that its time for it?
    I bought R1100GS with 68k km and it runs perfect. When do I need to check valves and synchronizeengine? Does it make some sounds or what? Thanks

    • @M0Tourist
      @M0Tourist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The service interval is 10000 km or every year. I usually do it before we go on our yearly trip. But then the adjustment is just minor.

      Ik doe er 20w50 mineraalolie in. Hij gebruikt wel iets aan olie, maar meestal niet genoeg om hem bij te moeten vullen tussen de jaarlijkse beurten
