      @@RoadsideRC Ok. I took it to the local drift track tonight, and it's totally undrivable. Can't even keep it in a straight line, and that's with throttle only at 30%. I think it could be the front shocks. The front ones are really firm, with hardly any movement, but the rear shocks are much softer with a nice bounce to the rear if you drop it from about 3-5 inches letting the back of the car drop against the surface. I'm going to take the fronts off in the morning and tip out some of the oil and make them a bit softer, hopefully that should help.

      What is your parts list that gets you to under $200 build?

  • @adriandeasy840
    @adriandeasy840 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about putting in longer standoffs (to raise that plate out of the way) and hang the dampers below the plate (on the outside holes)? That should allow for a lot more headroom to run a stock size servo, but it does require longer standoffs (stock are 12mm long, maybe try a pair of M3 x 25mm standoffs?). My D5S kit arrives in a week or so and I'll attempt it and report back.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!
      I think it would work.
      One thing to watch out is clearance for your body. When I had a full-size servo in here, it would not clear anymore. Just watch that.

    • @adriandeasy840
      @adriandeasy840 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoadsideRC My D5S build is almost complete and I wanted to report back with an update. Yes, you can run 25-30mm standoffs and flip the dampers over to hang from the bottom, this will fit a standard servo easily. The springs are definitely higher and can make contact with the body, I'm test fitting with Porsche 911 and 350z bodies and they make contact. My solution was to 3D print a new bracket that eliminates the IFS and cantilever pivots to create new upper mounts for the dampers to run in a traditional front suspension (vertical) layout. The tires have plenty of clearance at full lock and now the damper bracket above the servo can be removed entirely, so you can run a full size servo without issue.

    • @RoadsideRC

    Do you have a mod idea on how to fit a standard/6 cell nimh battery in there ?

    • @RoadsideRC

      You could always just velcro loop the battery down. Fortunately, the car doesn't tend to do a lot of crashing or hard hits that would move the battery.

    Hello. I was hoping you could help me with my sakura d5s. I set it up and built it, but before I did anything else I tested the steering. I began to notice that the steering was not going fully both ways and was having a hard time turning to either side. I’m certain the problem is not the servo but rather the steering mechanism within the D5s. Any thoughts on how I can fix it?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The steering rack on this vehicle is complex. I would recommend taking it back apart and looking closely.
      My friend recently built one, and he did not get the whole assembly together correctly. Please check carefully vs the pictures!

      @marcosgonzalezlopez3085 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RoadsideRC I took apart the D5s like you said and found that the problem lies on the ball studs connected to the upper and lower arms. They are stiffer than they should be and cause the wheels to get stuck to one side or the other. Any ideas on how to make it looser?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Double check to confirm you have the correct studs in there. Mine are almost too loose. If I remember correctly, there are two sizes of ball studs in the kit.

    I have full size servo as you have on Sakura D5 MR, no modification needed, but I can't control the car only by throttle, I mean when you doing circles in drift. I was told that this is the way to check proper configuration. I don't know where is the issue? Could it be servo ?

      @@RoadsideRC I was told that successfully configured car should be able to controlled by throttle only, when you are drifting in a circle. I can't configuring the car to be able to do so. I'm thinking if the issue is on the servo side or ESC and motor or Gyro?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you were given wrong information.
      All of the cars I have ever driven require steering and throttle inputs. Still - it is 90% throttle and 10% steering.

    How is the speed of the cheap servo vs the revD

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The speed is only a little slower. What is more important is the precision. The cheap servo can almost see the jerks as moves, just a lack of resolution for what this chassis needs.

    How does it perform with the full size?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That specific servo is not a good match for this application.
      The steering geometry on this car has a lot of multiplication in it. So a little servo movement goes a long way - which means you need a precise servo.
      That full size I put in there is powerful, but not very precise.
