If you weren’t watching live I can’t explain to you how epic watching game 3 was, mostly because there is no clock on the recap board. Anna had pulled off a draw in Game 2 after appearing (to most of the audience) that she would lose for most of the game, due to her getting into time trouble. The time trouble HAD done her out of a win that game.
Start of game 3 Pia was disappointed Anna left her bishop on H5 for so long. She was dissapointed Anna didn’t move to H6 immediately. Pia told chat Anna was playing very passive chess. Pia had previously told chat early in game 2 that Anna was playing very passive chess then too.
And Anna, being Anna, who Hyperfixates on calculating ahead and has told us she finds it difficult to stop calculating even when she KNOWS she has to stop calculating, burned through her time again in even fewer moves than game 2. People in chat were tearing their hair out.
What followed is what I think might be an hour of bullet chess by Anna. Odin was moving fairly quickly so that Anna didn't get constantly repeated chances to calculate on his time. He was definitely trying to flag her and I think he was totally justified to do so. She entered bullet time in what seemed a better position than the start of her bullet time in game 2 but it was still considered by most of chat a completely losing position. And the eval bar DID say it was losing.
But around the 30-40 minute mark of Anna bullet chess, the jokes began
    ---
Odin: Anna is down to 30s. Good.
    Anna: I have 30s x infinity. Good.
    - - -
Anna should start all classical matches with 30s on the clock. She plays so much better .
    ---
Anna terrifies GMs with this one weird trick.
    ---
Ok I made up the last one, but you get the drift of the jokes.
In the meantime others were freaking out that she wasn’t resigning when her eval bar was on the floor and had been on the floor for ages. Theoretically, facing a perfect opponent, she could never actually draw, let alone win. I told them Anna’s mother has taught her to always play out every endgame for educational purposes. They said “how can you learn anything from playing out a certain loss?” Other optimists said “Anna can still win this, she turns games around all the time.” They said “Anna cannot win. A way to win doesn’t exist.” So I flat out told them that she was creating the opportunity for Odin to blunder. This seemed to confuse a lot of people. “He’s a 120 points higher than her, he’s not going to blunder.” “How can Anna make him blunder? she can’t.”
Anna was quite often tapping the clock at 4 seconds, sometimes 3 seconds, and at least one tap at 1 second with the whole of chat freaking the frack out and staring at disbelief at the 31s she now had on the clock. Even Pia thought it worth verbally noting that one.
Finally, Odin wore her down to a mate in 3. More questions why Anna wasn’t resigning.
And finally, I swear it was one hour into Anna bullet time, Odin blundered. Odin blundered so bad the eval bar went from -4 to zero. Odin blundered away a mate in 3.
    Chat exploded.
How? How? How could Odin blunder THAT badly? Asked the Anna doubters.
I could have said: Because Anna was facing a human and not a Narrow Chess AI. I could have said, “Anna plays to the bitter end. Anna takes advice to always practise endgames until forced to stop. Anna is very experienced in blitz and bullet and seems to often play better when she is forced to intuit or stick to boring solid chess moves instead of those creative off-chess-line moves designed to confuse her opponent, like her dad likes to play too.” I didn't say any of that. I was high and exhausted simply from watching an hour long bullet game.
And others said for me, “Anna created the opportunity for Odin to blunder.”
It took more time for Anna to chase down Odin after achieving that drawing position from his blunder. Part of that was her Brilliant move. It was the cherry on top of the cake of a sensational game. Most of the match Anna was losing… badly. Three games of self destructive, excruciatingly bad time trouble to start off a tournament.
I knew, other watchers *knew* Anna could win this. And she did.

It seems that Odin was trying to rush Anna on the clock and maybe missed the win, a big let off, but Anna kept fighting just like Gukesh in game 14 you never know if your opponent will make a mistake under pressure. Can happen to anyone at any level.

I came to comment that too lol. Anna speaks English really well, I sometimes forget it’s not her first language. But then she has these moments like at 10:46 where she just realizes mid sentence that she doesn’t know the word she’s looking for lol. It’s actually one of my favorite things about her for some strange reason.

As a beginner I noticed that in both games Odin chose to take a piece rather than go for a positional move. Could it be Odins strength is also a weakness that could be used against him? Is Odin susceptible to diversion? If given the choice between attack and position if Odin reflexly attacks when time is short, could this lead to him loosing a good position and loosing some or all of his well fought lead?
On the other hand are you assuming Odin will make the best positional move rather than attack and so when time is short could you miss the attack.
Could your match with Odin be instructive regarding positional vs attacking play, and the strengths and weakness of two very different approaches?
As a beginner I most admire the play of Karpov (positional?) but have decided its easier for a beginner to attack than develop a position so I've switched from d4 to e4 openings to keep the board open. Slowly slowly learning.
    Thanks for sharing.

I cannot remember where I heard it but some one asked a question ‘how do you become a Grandmaster’ and the reply was ‘the Grandmaster has lost more games than most players play in a lifetime’
If you make a bad move and the daemons in your head start screaming then you need something to shut them up. You could try a 10 second meditation and just stop thinking or just stand up stretch look around the room 360 degrees just tame your eyes of the chess board
Or just invent your own little 10 second distraction 😊

Sun Tzu? Not sure. The time to fight is when you are either assured of victory or assured of death. Also . . . soldiers have to fight cold. Train to fight believing he or she is already dead. Yeah, chess isn't war. But the same idea in playing, that you have already lost so it's time to fight and win.

    -
So I want to encourage you all to get to know JESUS while you’re still here, breathing❗️
    -
Seek Him with all your heart and have a relationship with Him…
    -
He already went through hell for us so that we can make Heaven our home
    -
Hell wasn’t made for us humans… it was made for satan and his demons, so Jesus Christ made a way for us to not go to hell by Him dying on the Cross for our sins - taking our place and us His
    -
So I beg each and everyone of you to know Jesus Christ our Lord & Saviour🙏🏿
    -
Lastly: Repent of your sins and ask God for forgiveness

I love you all and I pray that each and everyone of you get to know Jesus Christ and may have an encounter with Him. Stay blessed family❤️.
