Personally if i eat much meat, i start to develop allergy to the meat protein - which is shown as pollen allergy and allergy towards certain veg and fruit. Then naturally my body will tell me to go on veg diet. In fact, after being veg for some time, and if i'm not anxious and greedy, meat can even smell disgusting. Personally i find meat particularly appealing when i am not peaceful inside.
I am a vegetarian for almost 30 years, I lived in Shanghai for 11 years, I established my fashion brand when i first came to Shanghai, everyone who worked in my company was a vegetarian, because we only offer vegetarian food, haha, it was a great experience. I know a couple of temples in Nanjing that serve vegetarian. If you are in Shanghai, plenty of choices, I am sure there are at least over 60 vegetarian restaurants in Shanghai, probably more than 60 now.
I'm vegan. I would go back to China often to visit family and recently I also lived in Northeast China for 1.5 years. My experience is that despite the Northeasterners having so much meat, I never had any problems getting vegan food. There was also so many varieties for me to choose from. Not only from vegan/vegetarian specific restaurants but basically any restaurant can be vegan. Chinese food is easy to adapt and you just have to communicate your requirements to the chef. The other foreigners I worked with believed it was difficult to eat vegetarian but that's because of language barrier. They couldn't understand the menu fully and couldn't communicate effectively their choice. In southern China, I have even less problems and so many options.
I'm surprised that you didn't go seek out Buddhist restaurants. Growing up, that's what my family would go and eat every once in a while for a meat-free meal. They have some fantastic meat substitutes done in a Chinese style. The stuff you had at the vegetarian restaurant looks similar though
@@CL-zu2pe that's right, in Hakka I know it as "sit tsai"... only some families... My last name is Chong, so growing up we didn't have to. But my cousins whose last name is Chin (in Hakka), they do.

tbf, being vegetarian in China is sooo much more comfortable than in for example Germany. One big reason is in China, they use spices... yes it sounds dumb as hell, but in Germany, most local restaurants only know salt, pepper, and maybe some herbs. This leads up to the issue that you feel like you're eating the same fcking thing over and over and over again even though they are different on paper, but it just tastes the same. Vegan could be hard in china though since, as mentioned in this video, Chinese people love using things like lard to enhance the flavor of the dishes. But it's no something you can't avoid with proper communication.
From my experience, it is really easy to go vegetarian in Germany, there pretty much always are vegetarian options in every restaurant. I am not vegetarian, though. 😄
@@peanutjam not talking about how easy it is to get vegetarian food, yes it is easy to eat like a vegetarian, but it is so painful to pull it through unless you cook a lot yourself. While they pretty much all provide vegetarian options, they all taste the same since, no offense btw, Germans have no concept of seasoning their food properly. They eat the food in its natural flavor, only adding minimal seasoning, they don't try to do anything interesting with the ingredients. This is mostly fine with meat dishes since different animals or even different body parts taste very different in their own right. But with vegetables, since German cuisine don't do much with the raw ingredient and don't have a lot of spices, end up tasting very similar in most places.

@@peanutjam I suppose the most severe problem is, that the young generation of Germans are very "AMERICANISIERT" . (I suppose I created this German world) The pop culture, fast food, people don't really care what they are eating. I live in Tübingen, southern Germany and usually buy food from one Metzger(which doesn't only provide meat) which is mostly run and visited by Omas und Opas. The food is satisfying and the Omas also teach you how to cook properly. . But why only Omas and Opas? The cultural loss is kind of frustrating.

Oyster sauce is often used and also satay sauce may contain shrimps as well as cross contamination like the oil to deep fry things may also have fried meat too, so depends on how strict you are. I found your captions too quick and had to "rewind" or pause to read them.

Was vegan for 3 yrs and vegetarian for 7 years but now I eat everything. I definitely struggled to be a picky vegan in China, especially only being able to eat food around the school. Being a not-picky vegetarian (accept meat broth etc.) definitely gives me much more options. Being overseas, I am happy restaurants create options for vegetarians, but they are simply not good - either not tasty or too expensive, especially lacking soy products is a big disadvantage.
I've been a vegetarian/vegan for 8 yrs now, and that's the best decision I've ever made! Even tho it can be complicated sometimes when you order, but I'd much rather make my life just a tiny bit more complicated than killing animals. Also, the vegetarian/vegan options in LA is endless. Most people stereotype vegetarian food, but you will realize vegetarian food nowadays are sooo good! You can't even tell the difference a lot of times!

Well, I guess it depends on what you want. If you become a vegetarian mainly for health reasons, what you want to avoid is animal protein, so there's no problem with occasionally getting some animal fat.

其實中國各個城市都很多佛廟吧,相對的肯定會有素食館,畢竟傳統要有吃齋的日子的。懶得話直接去吃齋就好了,有能力的就看看餐牌記下來然後自己回去學著做。吃齋可能跟吃素有點區別,但其實吃得東西方面區別還是比較少的。
順便一下,廣東的豆腐花貌似就跟北方的豆腐腦差不多,不過是甜的,所以應該沒有豬油之類的哦

我呆的四五线城市有素食餐厅,价格美丽。
华东的豆腐脑是咸的,但是没有猪油,看价格就知道了,两块钱不到的东西还给放猪油呢……。放猪油的网红葱油饼可以卖到十块钱。

其实我觉得中餐对素食还是很友好的,选择很多。
不光是素食,还有禅宗僧侣吃的斋食。

素食主义一般不会去普通的餐厅点素菜的,因为他们会觉得普通餐厅的饭菜做得不干净(有可能会做的过程碰过肉类,或者用了动物类油脂和调味品)。我的朋友去中国都是去寺庙附近找素食餐厅吃的。
在一间寺里吃过素食,那豆腐加饭好吃得很,勾芡得口感非常好
我也想起来小时候去寺庙吃过斋饭,各种干货烧制的斋菜味道特别鲜美。

有素食餐厅还用大豆做成牛肉的味道,很像的,素菜饺子,素菜包子,蔬菜拉面,蔬菜春饼,选择太多了,大城市基本都有素食餐厅

找找各种豆制品做的菜,比如素鸡之类的,大的超市里,熟食柜台就有不少选择。南京肯定也会有各种素食餐厅吧。

沒錯 成都超多好吃的素食,口味和我家鄉台灣很像....我們這現在最有名氣的全國素食自助餐,只要點菜約人民幣15元 白飯 五榖飯 地瓜稀飯 甜湯 蔬菜湯 吃到飽,而且環境都很乾淨....明德菜色多,但小貴 人均20-25人民幣

It’s really easy to find vegetarian options in Taiwan. You should try if you come visit here in the future
4:11 話說杰里德說說是想吃肉. 我是身同感受. 由於最近體檢後三高(高血壓, 高膽固醇, 高血糖血脂. 還有脂肪肝…)
雖然情況都不嚴重. 暫時不需要吃藥控制, 但醫生也說情況再嚴重點便要長期吃藥了. 為了控制情況. 所以減少吃肉,
多吃菜. 又由於吃外賣或出外吃. 油鹽之類也很難控制. 所以絕大部份時間都在家煮. (我知道要控制身體的情況. 除了飲食外還要運動.
所以也有加大運動量. 不過跟題目無關., 就不詳述了…)
以前是個無肉不歡的人. 現在減少吃肉的量. 而且吃肉都以雞胸肉為主. 雖然午晚餐的量跟以前差不多(什至…其實是稍多的…)
不過, 由於是以蔬菜為主. 肉比較少, 吃完午/晚餐後, 很快會覺得不夠……

我的姥姥和妈妈就是素食者,虽然我妈妈只是不喜欢吃肉、所以一些有猪油呀还有肉末的菜她也都可以吃,只不过会避免吃到肉、但我姥姥是完全不能吃肉的那种,甚至吃到猪肉都会肚子不舒服会吐的那种,确实在外面吃饭会比较麻烦、需要很小心一些、不过我姥姥也很喜欢自己做饭~

🤣太有心了,如果是我这期视频可能一周都在寺庙里待了,懒得想吃什么。
去外面吃需要好好的溝通才能有效避免吃到肉,但如果是家裡煮,中餐的素菜選擇真的有太多太多,番茄炒雞蛋、蒜蓉炒菜、香菜豆腐湯、拍黃瓜.....真的多到數不過來
在中国过素食生活很容易,因为:一,中国的豆制品、素肉制品丰富、好吃、便宜,二,中国蔬菜水果太丰富便宜了。换言之,可替代品的质量高、价格低、品种丰富。我爸妈吃素十几年了,完全不影响生活质量。
但是在国外我坚持不了吃素,因为:
一,国外的素肉豆腥味很大,二,国外蔬菜水果种类少、价格贵。
我刚出国时特别不理解为啥国外自称吃素的人绝大多数都吃鱼,后来我理解了......

Was vegan for 3 yrs and vegetarian for 7 years but now I eat everything. I definitely struggled to be a picky vegan in China, especially only being able to eat food around the school. Being a not-picky vegetarian (accept meat broth etc.) definitely gives me much more options. Being overseas, I am happy restaurants create options for vegetarians, but they are simply not good - either not tasty or too expensive, especially lacking soy products is a big disadvantage.

我还是倾向于低碳的饮食,素食不一定就健康,烹饪方式,营养搭配很重要。

有很多专门做素菜的便宜餐厅的!你要跟素食者沟通才能了解到这些店,基本每餐15-20元就可以了!
经历了七天素食的挑战,可以看出整个人变得好有仙气了,还差那么一点点就可以成精了。

你的挑战就没有做攻略嘛,佛教庙子里有各种素菜饭的,最荤的就是鸡蛋。完全不用多考虑。油都是清油。然后大城市一般都有那种素食餐厅。成都都有好几家,高中低档不要钱的都有,而且还好吃。相信南京也有。作为一个中国人,要吃素还是很容易的,豆腐乳,榨菜,泡菜,各种稀饭,玉米,馒头,花卷,各种蔬菜,蘑菇,面条吃一年可以不重样。
还有燕麦,干果,水果,巧克力,都可以作为素食的补充。要想吃素食,在中国太容易了。如果想归隐田园,随便去乡村找快地(租块地)种蔬菜水果,保证你天天吃素食。
其实有哦便宜的素食馆, 鸡鸣寺的素食馆超好吃的, 菜和面都很好吃,很多寺庙附近都有素食馆
比较简单的是找一间寺庙去住一个星期阿哈哈哈哈

中餐不吃肉其实也有很多吃的,但是!我最近不能吃辣椒醋酱油牛羊肉和鸡蛋,瞬间能吃的变少了很多(基本没什么可吃的(反而只能吃肯德基麦当劳这种炸鸡without dipping sauce😀
一般我只會去素食專賣店。這樣肯定不會用豬油之類的佐料。
素食,当然是去像玉佛寺素菜馆那样的,素鸡素鸭,素肉丸子等等。

I've been a vegetarian/vegan for 8 yrs now, and that's the best decision I've ever made! Even tho it can be complicated sometimes when you order, but I'd much rather make my life just a tiny bit more complicated than killing animals. Also, the vegetarian/vegan options in LA is endless. Most people stereotype vegetarian food, but you will realize vegetarian food nowadays are sooo good! You can't even tell the difference a lot of times!
The advancements in vegan whipped cream in particular is amazing to me :D
在中国吃素不要太简单……一个月不重复都可以,如果没有资金限制甚至还能吃到全素宴,豆腐宴,菌菇宴等高级素菜。

yay ty for making this! mcdonalds and starbucks dont really have vegan options in america either ;_; like the french fries are fried in animal fat and starbucks only has vegan drinks no food except oatmeal.
各个大一点的城市 都有一些平价素食自助餐,二三十元的,甚至十几元的,比如我们厦门就有几家,菜品都挺丰富,素食界的人都知道。。

Well, I guess it depends on what you want. If you become a vegetarian mainly for health reasons, what you want to avoid is animal protein, so there's no problem with occasionally getting some animal fat.
you should try going zero waste for a week!!
