Just had 2 week holiday in Shengzhen, impressive town planning: air and noise pollution in minimal almost 100% of public transport are ev, clean, tidy and safe for a city that have 19 millions citizen, good connectivity & convenient transportations. Shengzhen is another level.
Still can’t get over how you can literally use Wechat for everything. Somehow this is a game changer. Also, the feeling of supreme cleanliness and perhaps the most important is safety. One feels extremely safe at night to roam the streets freely without worry.
Many good cities to visit too, except most common Beijing and Shanghai; Chengdu ,xi an, nan jing, hangzhou, sichuan are also good to visit. Xinjiang also, many many visitors go there to see the real life of Xinjiang.
Homeless people exist yes even in China but have you seen the videos where the homeless live in LA? Do what's your point ? 85 million people lifted from poverty in China and that is undoubtedly an achievement.

There are of course relatively less developed areas/suburbs in Shenzhen where many of poor/migrant workers lived but those are are so clean as well.
