love this build... always loved these celica i remember when my guy got one brand new... time flies... but this is how they should of built the celica...
I love this build but I am sure the Snap-On salesman loves him more. You don't get that Snap-On jacket he's wearing by being a broke boi. THAT'S FOR SURE!
There’s actually funny story behind that, I don’t by snap on tools but my dad does for his shop and he spent $14k on scan tools, my dad only wanted the little pen screw drivers but the salesman gave him 4 jackets for my family to go with it 😂
👍👍 Excellent idea, more power. This video just randomly showed up in my feeds, I am happy it finally did. I subscribed, I'm looking forward to seeing you get it running. You've gotten a lot accomplished to this point. I am building an ls4 swaped mid engine Celica "Celica GT-SS". I just got it to the able to drive stage, mostly everything working. It's a lot of work, you'll get there.
Haven't watched other episodes but if you changed coil packs and triggering coils while turning ignition off and on could be that coil packs wait for low trigger and when you turn ignition off, they receive low trigger and fire. Or ECU is triggering spark when you turn ignition on. Either way, check which signal coils require to trigger, is it losing 12v to signal or receiving 12v to signal. Could be also trigger problem or just faulty wiring.
From bench testing the coils, they seem to spark when given power, not necessarily when power is added or removed. I tested the coil pack in the engine with a 12v battery and litterally shocked myself to find out it will spark when power is applied across all pins. I plan to look into it more over the next few days along with getting other work done so that it can idle
When you stop cranking, what in the hell is that awful noise?? It makes me cringe everytime! Digging into a motor scares the heck out of me, im in the IT field by trade & own my own computer repair business and Ive learned motherboards and how theyre powered pretty well. To me, it seems like theres a spark issue. Either low voltage or something is miswired. How is flipping that switch give the system so much juice its backfiring? I've been riding sportbikes for many years and I can work on them but car engines are more intimidating, I will master an engine one day. My son is almost 2, my dream is to put a 2J into a 98 s10 single cab, and it will be his one day. I swear to god it will happen. What motivates me even more is my wife laughs at the idea. Haha, bring it on baby!! Btw, i love the celica and 2j idea!
YES! The challenge is very motivating, the awful noise is the automatic transmission ring gear getting slightly nicked by the starter when it disengages. From what I know this is normal but the sound is just amplified greatly because the ring gear almost acts like a speaker dies to not having a torque converter and instead having a flywheel only bolted to the center of the ring gear
I and using a steering rack out of a fox body mustang, I will not be running power steering and because I swapped the sides the steering knuckles where originally on I had to get a rack that steers backwards to the celica rack. The rear end is pulled straight from a g35 coupe, the 350z rear end is the same if you are curious
Hi there Jag, your channel popped up in my feed, and, being a Toyota-fan forever, I found it interesting to see someone with the [in _my_ view] right attitude re. modding the [again, in _my_ view] one of the original 'ugliest' Celica's ever built! . . . (Those _awful_ headlights being one of my immediate complaints!!! 😖) Seeing as you've got _a ton_ of history already invested in this vehicle, I've definitely got to recap it all! . . . No doubt, this has the potential to become the *envy* of many! . . Fingers X-ed Jag! 😉
The fuel lines are leaking which is why I haven’t turned the fuel pump on, but it should be able to fire a few times with starting fluid regardless, that’s why it let out that one bang was because it had starting fluid in the cylinder but it wasn’t sparking to ignite it until I turned the coils and ecu off and back on
I don’t have a fuel pressure sensor, just a regulator so maybe, I’ll look into other stuff but I’ll keep that in mind as a possibility. I’m running a Haltech elite 750 if you know the specifics on how those work
Sounds like timing because it will fire out of time but more likely electrical.. i know the ecu you put in it requires a dedicated power…. But the way you were figuring out where the wires were goinh or didnt know to begin with make me worry about electrical fires.. seriously.. if youre not 100% on your wiring than its a good idea to start from the beginning and make sure all your grounds are set correctly (a loose ground can just as easily start a fire). I would even go so far as to draw out a complete wiring diagram.. would save future headaches.. but all the exposed solenoid terminals and loose connections is not what you want to have on a project car with this much time, effort and money has gone into.. look at that one youtuber who finally got his dream car, a supra, then the damn thing randomly caught fire on the trailer .. fucked. Couldnt imagine .. prevention, protection, perfection.. ( • )( • )Ԅ(‾⌣‾ԅ) Boobies….

interesting build...a BOMEX style front bumper would look good with those headlights.
That’s the plan
That engine will be running soon! 👍
Holy moly, I see that your channel has grew quite much, wishing you all the best!
Great to see progress. Just subbed to see more of this while binging the previous videos

Whaaa my brother has one in black. Darn thing is heated as well and he for sure broke broke. Now i have to ask him

Love the build I’ve thought about mid engine and this is more to test my skills but in the future I want to build the perfect celica in my opinion
Nice build! I’ve got a celica too and later down the line actually wanna do my own little thing building it too but just a litttttle different.
Yessirrrr you got this!

What are you using for a power steering rack? looks like it's going through the basepan. Also, what rear end?

What intake is that?
One off eBay, I honestly don’t remeber
You probably need a ground to the motor maybe
It’s solid mounted to the frame so that’s the ground
Timing sound 180 out of
The ecu isn’t communicating properly with the coil packs, currently working on figuring it out
Probably no fule maYb e too
The fuel lines are leaking which is why I haven’t turned the fuel pump on, but it should be able to fire a few times with starting fluid regardless, that’s why it let out that one bang was because it had starting fluid in the cylinder but it wasn’t sparking to ignite it until I turned the coils and ecu off and back on
But it looks for the right amount of fuel pressure to turn on the ECU looks for that or no start for motor
I don’t have a fuel pressure sensor, just a regulator so maybe, I’ll look into other stuff but I’ll keep that in mind as a possibility. I’m running a Haltech elite 750 if you know the specifics on how those work
If check for spark and the timing again
LET THIS MAN COOK!
