- In an exclusive interview, Mark Zuckerberg talks with CNN's Laurie Segall about why he won't step down as Facebook's chairman and why he wants Sheryl Sandberg to stay at Facebook.
After spending much of this year apologizing for Facebook's many missteps, CEO Mark Zuckerberg was defiant in an exclusive interview with CNN Business.
Zuckerberg resisted growing calls for changes to Facebook's C-suite, reiterated Facebook's potential as a force for good, and pushed back at some of the unrelenting critical coverage of his company after a year of negative headlines about fake news, election meddling and privacy concerns.
"A lot of the criticism around the biggest issues has been fair, but I do think that if we are going to be real, there is this bigger picture as well, which is that we have a different world view than some of the folks who are covering us," Zuckerberg told CNN Business' Laurie Segall at Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
"There are big issues, and I'm not trying to say that there aren't," he said. "But I do think that sometimes, you can get the flavor from some of the coverage that that's all there is, and I don't think that that's right either."

Some things can't be avoided, like Walmart's low prescription prices. But I completely avoided most of the FB "fake news" because I wasn't there. I quit years ago and haven't been back since. Everyone there just seemed to pretend at being this bigger version of their true selves, and now it's like everyone's a tiny celebrity with a list of icons instead of actual friends.

With all the issues surrounding facebook, one has to give some credit to Zuckerburg. He is always respectful in his interviews and it appears that he is sincerely trying to fix the image. It's hard to imagine other CEOs remain polite and even go on national television like that. They either hide behind their spokespeople or get very defensive, obnoxious and rude with reporters. Facebook grew too big too fast, and Zuckerburg became a head of one of the most influential companies in world history, something which he is still does not completely comprehend

It is a publicly traded entity. Although he owns a majority of the shares it not his private property anymore
He actually owns 75% of Facebook voting rights due to the structure of Facebook's shares, similar to Snap.
However, CEO's duty is to report to the chairman and board of directors. This means that Mark Zuckerberg is reporting to no one, he operates the corporation and chairs the board of directors.

I distinctly recall, approx. two years ago, finally caving in and deciding to set up a FB page. I began with the usual..and then, just as coincidence would have it, my fond African American colleague started getting some creepy, racist-flavored stuff on HER FB page. She took everything down, pronto - without even a second's hesitation. Meantime, once I learned of her experience....I did not bother to pursue mine. So, anyway, I started getting notes from FB, "You have three messages.." When I would go and check, I'd always receive the note, THERE ARE NO MESSAGES. (Carrot and stick, I think they call this) After that, I began getting some faintly ominous...e.mails, (I'm paraphrasing), "We notice that you did not complete setting up your FB page.." WTF... I remember thinking. I ignored it; all the same this weird shit continued for some months. Avoid FB like the plague. It is a time waster and big time energy-suck. I prefer real human conversation, phone calls, and e.mails from living persons with whom I already have an established, reciprocated.. 98.6 relationship....
Gonna say what everyone else on here is trying to say. Thank you Zuck for creating Facebook. We will use it more responsibly.
