Fast food employees deserve living wages, as well as full benefits, and PTO. They're hard working folks. The issue is the CEO / CFO / owners' sky high salaries unproportional to their work effort and work value. Why is no one complaining about that, because its easier to blame the poor.
And don't tell me owners took a high risk, they did not. They're protected thru the LLC legal structure.

Only a few would make $50 per hour. The rest would be unemployed. The increases in minimum wage are a driving factor for self checkout groceries, computerized ordering at fast food places, app based ordering, and other pushes toward automating away the traditional cashier jobs. It's cheaper to build a computer system to do these jobs than pay a human $15 per hour. At $50, California businesses would simply collapse.

We have to raise retirement age regardless. When Social Security started off the life expectancy was 64. We live in a world where the average person spends over 1/3 of his life being taken care of by others. That’s unprecedented.

    • @WildBikerBill

When Social Security started, there were roughly 70 people paying in for every one person receiving, and on average that person receiving was going to live only about five years.
Today it's closer to five people paying in for every one person receiving, and that person receiving lives on average 20 - 30 years. So all the trends on the expense side of the ledger are bad. And at some point those paying in are going to rebel at the ever escalating taxes needed to keep SS going.

Friends jobs are experiencing the same thing. Next to no applicants, and the few they get expect $50/hr for positions that pay $16-20/hr to start. They had to close down a couple locations after two years or not being able to hire any new people.

That wouldn't work because then they will just receive more social security payouts when they retire, especially since they will likely be able to retire earlier than most Americans.
      Heres the real problem:
When Social Security started, there were roughly 70 people paying in for every one person receiving, and on average that person receiving was going to live only about five years.
Today it's closer to five people paying in for every one person receiving, and that person receiving lives on average 20 - 30 years. So all the trends on the expense side of the ledger are bad. And at some point those paying in are going to rebel at the ever escalating taxes needed to keep SS going. SS was never meant to support people for 10,20 or 30 years after retirement.
