Hi Jeff. I can totally relate to what you're saying about the nature of obsession/ fire. I personally went from collecting vinyl, then to CD (justification: there are smaller and cheaper than vinyl, result: end up buying even more music I could handle), then knives (justification: I dont have so much time to listen to all the music I already have, so I may collect something smaller that can be useful in the house, result: similar situation, a lot of expensive knives lying around that I have not even used to spread butter), then transitioned to watches (justification: I will naturaly buy less because there are more expensive and is something I will use everyday, result: 7 watches later, a lot of money/ time/ energy expend, and even more anxiety about reselling and finding the perfect timepiece), and now I'm seeing myself going full circle to my childhood back to comics! I can see the pattern and i know is laughable, however I realized during my collection journey that for me is about the journey and not only the end, or as Lemmy from Motorhead said "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch". In the end I don't regret because In this journey I have not only learned about these objects but also about myself. My wish is to somehow redirect this fire into something meaningful that would benefit not only my small daughter, family and friends but also my community. However I am also convinced that being able to enjoy the small things this life has to offer (and the journey to get them) is something of great value. Cheers!
Glad to hear you’re safe-very scary fires near you. I remember as a youngster someone brought me a transistor radio from their trip to Japan. The brand was called National. If I recall this was the domestic market name for Panosonic. I loved that thing and used to listen to AM pop radio for hours. Now I’m sitting in Dubai in transit to Mumbai wearing my SLA043 and carrying my G-Shock GW-5000U for a month in South Asia. Just looked at the airport watch store, which is pretty extensive in Terminal 3. Glashütte Original definitely caught my eye. Stay safe and keep exercising!

Your honesty and authenticity have always been the main draw to your channel McMahon. Don't worry about what people might think and enjoy your lovely watches, they always look fantastic. I'm happy to know that you and your family are fine and I hope the whole area becomes safe soon. Very sad to see such a disaster happening :(
Uncle Seiko Tropic on my SLA023 all day every day. Love the combo. Stays in place and super comfortable. A+. Glad all are safe and sound in your household.
I ordered a Quodosen on Amazon and it didnt show up then was delayed blah blah blah. So I cancelled it and got a Choyong LC90 instead. Great FM, Poor AM, SW, 50,000+ streaming stations and 10 million podcasts. Best radio ever! I remember your radio reviews and the Sangean PR4DW and how you couldn't get a good KPCC signal.
I currently have a Seiko king turtle that I love. But I found a uemura for sale online and i'm tempted by it. I have tried on but never connected with the 42mm captain willard. Do you think the jump from the turtle to the uemura is worth it?
Jeff, you should try getting a omega planet ocean for your next watch. I'm a member of watchuseek and I'm seeing one yr old 43mm models selling for 3k ....that's 4k off retail. I think the build quality is much higher than a sla seiko.
It’s wise to be circumspect on your accumulating habits when the reality of losing everything hits closer to home. Don’t fret about your collection McMahon, I think you’ve hit a great balance of 5 watches, and it’s just a matter of getting used to the feeling of satiety and horological homeostasis. I’m a fountain pen obsessive now, and as my Zodiac Super Sea Wolf can’t keep time worth a darn, I’m back to wearing the tried and true Seiko SARB-035 white dial, and my Solar Square GW-M5610 G-Shock. In terms of radios, I’m a millennial, and back in high school, I used to tune into the Phil Hendrie Show on 760 KFMB here in San Diego, but I believe he was broadcasting out of LA, which was KFI on 640 AM during his “classic years”, before he got into politics. Sadly, I didn’t get the chance to listen to Art Bell’s show. Radio shows have a special place in my heart, and live streaming and podcasts in many ways are spiritual successors to talk radio, while being different in a number of ways. Stay safe, McMahon!
