great review! I just came from my local dealer where I was having my 2017 RTL-T Ridgeline serviced/inspected/recall addressed...decided to take advantage of the high resales currently going on which made the higher price tag much more palatable!...thanks for the walk-thru of the driver controls. It'll make my "introduction" to the actual vehicle easier and I'll be able to reference your video, if necessary, once I get her home! The 2022 RTL-E will be my 4th Ridgeline (2007, '12, '17, '22) and I have yet to stop loving them! The most comfortable ride (like a car, not a truck; I've been up and down the east coast several times over the past many years), quiet and responsive, comfy cabin for me and passengers, the in-bed storage/trunk, tow package, winter handling has been great..they've all done just what I needed. My only real complaint on the '17 is the rear doors don't open far enough but it appears the '22 will, so this gal and her pup will be happy! Hopefully will take delivery in a week or less - just waiting for the delivery truck (which is in state) to arrive at the dealership.

"From the front of this vehicle, to the back, there are frame rails, just like any other truck would have." Says Kerry McClure, chief engineer of the Honda Ridgeline. "The body itself-instead of being bolted onto that frame rail structure-is integrated so the floor panel sits on top of it, and it is all welded together." That's right, the Honda Ridgeline utilizes boxed frame rails in a "three bone," or "Y bone " configuration, underneath the body. From a May 25, 2017 article in Motor Trend magazine. It also has pictures of the reinforced frame, and goes of to explain how the bed is reinforced at the back of the cabin, to prevent bending and stress under load. It also has a payload of up to 1538 lbs., which is as much or more than a lot of the competition. So go ahead, say "It's not a truck." It's all good. BTW, Justin Fuller, how does it drive? You covered all the tech, screens, specs, but didn't drive it? You should take it for a test drive. It rides like a car, works like a truck. Don't forget the I-VTEC, and SH-AWD. Also a pleasure to drive, not just great ride quality.

Gen 1 owner. 1 cu yard of compost filled the bed. The truck didn’t squat and drove/accelerated just fine going 70 mph.

Waited month & half finally got it! 2022 Sonic gray RTL-E . Had two Tacoma’s before the Ridgeline, glad I made the transition it was not an easy decision. All I can say is this thing is awesome. Bigger,wider more comfortable than my Tacoma. And yes it drives like an suv. Love it .

This is almost always missed in Ridgeline reviews. Most midsized pickup trucks are 2k lbs tow from bumper. The Ridgeline is the only one that comes standard with an integrated 5k lbs towing kit on all trim levels. It also comes standard with a 7-pin connector, rather than a 4-pin.
The RTL-E and Black Edition trims have the upgraded transmission cooler for previous model years. I don’t know if that remains the case for 2022?
The full-time all wheel drive system can variably split torque up to 70% rear to 30% front or 70% front to 30% rear, which is best in class. Jeep’s Quadra-Trac can only split torque 52% rear to 48% front. The traction control system is best in class in heavy downpours or hydroplane avoidance. AWD is standard on all trim levels for 2022.
The Ridgeline is worst in class for ground clearance at 7+”, but you don’t really notice it due to the independent suspension at all 4-wheels. Rutted gravel roads for instance tend to “beach” the solid-axle differentials (that aren’t lifted), while the independent suspension instead offers a break-over angle driver-to-passenger that typically won’t exist on pickup trucks. The rear-wheel multi-link independent suspension does a good job of preventing trailer-sway.
The German built ZF transaxle features a 4.713 ratio 1st-gear and two Autobahn gears 8th & 9th @ 0.480 for the freeway. The differentials are 4.334, and it’s nice being able to downshift on the freeway without any worry of over-revving the engine. The 1st-gear vastly out performs the 2019 and earlier model years, and is low enough to avoid the transaxle overheating occasionally reported on older models. On long road trips from Atlanta to the beach I’ve briefly hit 36 MPG. From Atlanta to Pigeon Forge, TN I’ve briefly hit 27 MPG going through Anderson, NC.
Only the Gladiator competes with Ridgeline for Tri-Zone Climate Control.
The 4’x8’ lay-flat bed design between the tire wells is amazing. Not having to lift plywood an additional 6” to stack over the tire wells reduces the time working and you also gain an additional 6” of stacking more payload without exceeding the side panels. Also, the 1,500 lbs (0.75 ton) payload rating really lets you utilize that best in class oversized 5’ small-box. Having the largest 5’ small-box somewhat makes up for not offering a 6’ long-box offering. The huge width of the cargo area in combination with the key fob weather proof trunk, and key fob locking tailgate all standard, makes the Ridgeline one of the most practical and functional midsized pickup trucks. The key fob tailgate switch is inside the glove compartment to activate/deactivate.
Hopefully, the new TrailSport Edition will be available for 2023 or 2024. So far, only the Passport offers the TrailSport Edition.

I love how fast you talk, not wasting anyone's time, you gave me information quickly and concisely. I'm usually pulling my hair out watching these type of reviews, but yours had no fluff, no going out of your way trying to be funny, and you didn't make it all about YOU. You hit all your points quickly, and your info at a glance stuff to compare side by side is great .Excellent job.
One thing you didn't mention was the drivers headroom. That's a big reason I chose mine over the Tacoma. I'm 6'2" and 270 lbs, so even bigger guy than you and I just didn't fit in a tacoma. My head would rub the headliner unless I laid the seat waaaay back. Also the tacoma was very hard to get into for me as I have some back problems. The passenger head room is also quite substantial for me. I don't fit well into other trucks rear seats. If you're looking at one of these, you cant go wrong. I enjoy driving mine and don't regret the purchase one bit. The ride is also very nice and the seats, for a big guy with back problems, are extremely comfortable.
All in all a pretty good review. I would suggest really stressing that the RDW feature will also engage the brakes/slow the car down if you don’t respond. That’s why it’s on a separate switch. It’s easily my least favorite safety feature but it’s also easily disengaged. Keep in mind also- the car knows if your hands are or are not on the wheel- as in it will not “fight” you. And the touch screen.... First, you can adjust the touch sensitivity in the system settings.... Second, it’s a *touch* screen- You don’t poke or stab it with your finger.
People may say it’s not a “truck”. Is the Ridgeline a heavy duty work truck or tow vehicle? No. Is it a truck that will do what the vast majority of the public want a truck to do? Yes. It’s also hands down the most comfortable riding truck you’ll ever drive.

Great Review - *Disclaimer, I'm a biased owner of the '21 Black Edition... One thing you didn't really touch on in your cab space comparison was width. I'm 6'2" with a 36" inseam and the front leg room is fine for me, even though it's less than what the competition offers. What makes the Ridgeline great in this regard, is the width of the cabin. It feels so much more spacious inside than the rest of the competition. Coupled with the superior ride and driving dynamics, it's head and shoulders above the other midsize trucks in terms of comfort. It's been said over and over, but if you're honest about what your truck needs are, this one satisfies that vast majority of them better than the others. Honda reliability, Honda resale, and a really easy truck to live with on a daily basis.
I have a 38" inseam. Thing is, there is so much headroom you can really jack up the seat height - which effectively adds a lot of legroom AND much more hamstring support...
Why such terrible gas mileage? A full size F-150 gets as much or better with twice the towing

Six weeks ago, I sold my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. It was loaded with 6.2 V8
I took advantage of the unique supply chain situation we are currently having. I drove the truck two years and had a little under 49k miles on it. I sold it for $7000 less than I paid for it. The next buyer paid $4,000 more than I bought the truck for new. It was a great truck, and I loved it, but I decided to economize and go with a midsized truck. I do a good deal of work for car dealerships, so I get to see what kind of traffic they have for warranty work. Toyota and Honda are by far the best . I never really cared for the Ridgeline, and as a matter of fact, I couldn't have told you what the new ones looked like. You just do not see many of them where I live, and I do a lot of work for our Honda dealership. The thing is, the Toyota dealership only had one new vehicle on the lot and a waiting list for a Tacoma with limited colors available. I went and sat in a Maverick that wasn't even for sale, but it felt small. I also don't trust the Eco Boost . I've seen many an F150 with the turbos going out at around 70 thousand miles. l like the GMC Canyon AT4, but again, the wait was longer than I wanted. A friend showed me the Hyundai Santa Cruz, but Hyundai has shut down their gas engine production plants. They are going all electric by 2025, so i didn't bother to test drive one. So, one of my dealers told me to go check out the Ridgeline, and I am happy I did. The dealership that I work for didn't have one, but my wife and I drove to a nearby city and drove a black edition Ridgeline . I've never driven a better riding truck/car. Call it what you want.
My wife is a little claustrophobic, so I wanted her to get a feel for the truck. We travel in my vehicle mostly, and she drives a 2018 Yukon. She loved the truck as well and said she'd probably drive it herself. I've read some reviews on here that gripe about cost. The black edition trim with bed cover and accessories is still 20 thousand below the Silverado. Granted, it's a step down in features, but this truck will do anything that I did with my Silverado. I own a small trailer to haul anything that will not fit in the Ridgeline. The bed size is not all that different than my Silverado was. Right now, I'm happy nothing was available in the other truck brands . I did go back to the Honda dealership I work for, and I'm currently three weeks out from getting a white Black Edition with everything accessory I wanted. You will love it. Hard to find one on a lot. Traded my 2018 RTLE with 40K and they gave me only $5K less than paid for it. I love the white -black edition. Bought 2022.
Today, my wife & I ordered a 2022 Ridgeline RTL-E for delivery in April. When it arrives, it will join our 2007 Ridgeline. We love everything about the Ridgeline--especially the way they 'ride'.
It's nice for drive to the mall, but not mountains.
Get the ridgeline tent and a double sized air matress its amazing for camping. no dew on the tent in the morning plus flat even bed for more comfort

Great review for this Vehicle. This Truck is for a specific group of people that want a truck that drives like a car and is feature rich in a unique niche market. This is not a typical work truck. People need to understand that before they test drive or buy. This review is way better than anything I experienced at the dealership and help me decide on the purchase. RTL-E best trim selection unless you need the Black Edition Badge and other unnecessary cosmetic enhancements.I ended up getting a BAKFLIP MX4 tonneau cover and couldn't be happier with the results. It fills my needs for DIY around the house and taking out to the desert and N Arizona mountains. Nicely done Justin!

The set of switches on the lower left of the cabin with the wiper icon is for the heater in the windshield wiper well where all the snow gathers that you usually have to dig out so the wipers are able to park correctly. Great review!

Great review! I own a '21 Ridgeline RTL-E. LOVE it. Lots of interior room, does everything I need, very comfortable, great audio system, quiet interior, and is just a great, smooth ride. There are a few minor annoyances (some of the safety alerts seem a bit sensitive (compared to other Honda models I've owned/driven). Auto-high beams are sensitive/wonky at times)...but no deal-breakers. Highly recommended.
More then likely my next major purchase.

Not a bad truck at all, glad Honda offers some good features on their truck. I kinda looked at one a few months ago and settled on a ZR2 instead. Not hating the Honda, but wanted more of the true off road capabilities and the ZR2 with the V6 really has been an absolute blast to drive. I think Honda has unique features like the tailgate and trunk. I’m sure the ride is solid and we know the reliability is amazing on the Ridgeline line of course being a Honda. I hope other makers are going to utilize the tailgate feature. That’s one thing I wish the ZR2 had, it would make loading up items a little easier in my opinion. I will say that the AWD system that the Ridgeline uses came from the Acura MDX and is a very proven system, possibly the best that has been produced as of yet by any manufacturer.
Well done review. I have a 2021 RTL-E in Luna Silver. I wanted modern steel but couldn't find one and many dealers were asking $3k to $4k over MSRP. I paid full sticker but wanted it. Within days of taking delivery I took it from Conn. to Colorado and it is a great road trip vehicle. I'm happy, at least until they come out with a Ridgeline Type-R.

@@shortaybrown I think it offers everything that Tacoma does and more. But sometimes it comes down to preference. I love the look of the Tacoma. But I also love the functionality of the Ridgeline.
One of the best eval's I've seen. I still learn something after 1 year of ownership. The kid is a good talker and fast too. Looks like he had a bad motorcycle accident, I know the scars.

I owe you a HUGE “thank you”. I despise the adaptive cruise control on my '21 RTL-E. My salesman, his boss and three different videos I've watched ALL said you can't turn it off….one video guy even said that he hates it too, but there's nothing that can be done. When you showed how ACC can be switched to “normal” cruise control, I went straight to my truck and tried it….WOW!!, thank you, thank you, thank you. It works, just as you said.
Something I really hate (that can't be changed) is the “engine off at idle” feature. No way should it be the default setting, and have to be turned off every time you start your vehicle…..you should select it, only if you want it.
I'm through venting….I really do love my RTL-E…..well worth the extra money.

Linda, take my advice, and I am not trying to be a smart arse. DO something the salespeople don't even do. Read the owners manual, cover to cover. Take that hour or two and just go through it. You will see features and capabilities many never know about or use.
As someone that’s been selling Hondas for nearly 10 years it’s pretty disappointing to hear that both your salesperson and his/her boss didn’t have the product knowledge they should have. Honda quite regularly has required online training that stores and salespeople are rated on. That’s a poor commentary on not just management but ownership as well.

I just bought '22 RTLE for -60 MSRP (-60 dropped it below luxury tax). This video was nice and helped me decide. Bought the E version because of the improved sound system over the RTL model. Usually I do my own stereo upgrade but these newer models make it exceedingly difficult with so much tied into the video head units. Drove it from NYC to Syracuse with dog and 400 lb of additional cargo and got 22.2 mpg round trip. One bit of confusion was I put my sunglasses in the compartment above video monitor and they got swallowed up and replaced by a shiny mirror. Although I could see my beautiful smile I couldnt retrieve glasses while driving. I will have to figure at that process. Back flip up seats are best in class and the boot below the bed is very useful. Some guy at a truck stop intimated it wasnt a real truck. I apologized and said eyes 6'3" and willing to sacrifice a little bit of machismo for alot more comfort. The truck hauled a furnace as well as any other P/U would have and I am very happy.

Great job with the review/overview! I have a 2018 RTL-E almost 56K miles. By far the best midsized truck I've owned. I bought a new Tacoma (same year) and buyer's remorse set in. Traded it in on the Ridgeline 5 weeks later and so far... a great decision (except for taking a bath on the Tacoma depreciation!) Comfort, power, roominess ... all much better than the Tacoma. None of the other midsized pickups have a bed wide enough to accept 4' wide sheetrock or plywood flat. Glad to see Honda is sporting a more "rugged" look.

I have a 2018 Ridgeline sport and I am a Honda lifer after my experience. Have you tried the ridgeline tent if not would highly recommend plus also bed fits a double size air matress. its almost glamping. Keeps the tent off the ground nice flat bed plus keep dew off the tent from the ground. also tent and vehicle only takes up one spot.
I’m seriously considering a Honda Ridgeline RTL-E. I have been researching all the mid sized trucks. Your video is by far the best video I have seen to describe the features of this truck. I really like the control layout on the steering wheel which allows control without having to revert to the dash screen.
Do it. I was so deadset on getting a 22 tacoma sr5. I test drove both Taco/Ridgeline that same day. Realized that the Taco is SOOOO outdated interior wise and features compared to the RL. The dealbreaker for me is my 5ft wife didnt have any leg room in the backseat of a Taco lol. So i bought the RL black edition and dont regret it one bit.
Did you get it? I'm debating as well. This will be my first truck if I pull the trigger on this. I'm not hauling anything.
I did not get the Honda Ridgeline. The Honda dealer here in St Augustine, FL adds a lot of dealer installed options and had a market adjustment price adder. They were not willing to negotiate on anything so I walked away. I purchased a 2023 Ford F150 Lariet. The local Ford dealer did not have any of those ridiculous up charges. In fact I was able to negotiate a sizable discount off the sticker price and I was able to get 36 month interest free financing. I’m extremely happy with the F150 and the additional Cab room available verses a mid size truck. The 360 degree camera system makes parking a full size truck a breeze. Yes, I paid more for the F150 but I feel I got twice the value. I keep my vehicles for about 12 years so I will be enjoying it for a long time.
@Mike MJP52 Thanks for responding. So far, the dealer is willing to sell me the rtl-e for $42,875. I'm going to trade in my 2011 Nissan Maxium and get $2k. I didn't inform them of the transmission issues. That's payback for all the customers, including myself, that they screwed.
My 2020 RTL-E. Is amazing. Such a quiet ride. I get 27mpg. On the highway at 72mph.

A great example of a slick infomercial dressed up as a "review". There are literally 10's of thousands of this type of commercial content on youtube at any given time. What never ceases to amaze me is how many people watch them.There is nothing wrong with "infomercials" per say just as long as the viewers are fully cognizant of the fact that first and formost they are subjecting themselves to a sales pitch. Which in turn goes a long way towards explaining why disclaimers notifying viewers are non-existent on this kind of commercial anywhere on the internet.
I have a 2017 RTL -E. It has literally been maintenance free for the first 60,000. The wiring harness was replaced under warranty to get the back-up camera working. The back seat puts the passengers higher than the competitors so it is the vehicle we ALWAYS use with a crowd. I love having a "trunk" to keep tools and moving blankets in. I carry a lot of plywood and it is the only midsize than carries what I need. My passengers in TX also appreciate the rear AC! I have pulled a couple of folks with stuck 4-wheelers out of the mud. My wife LOVES the ride....and for the first time borrows my truck all the time.
The bad: The front end of the 2017 looks like a minivan. My kids all tease me. Bad #2 is the infotainment system takes far too long to start working. This does really bother me. Finally, the back doors need to open about 3-4 more inches. However, countless plusses make it the right mid-sized truck for me and my lifestyle.
I believe people with Ridgelines have replaced the door hinges with another honda model to get the door to open wider...
You can replace the door travelers with the same one that is in the front door. It is a very easy fix I did my truck a few months ago and absolutely makes a huge difference! Very easy to do takes about a half an hour per door. It is literally the exact same arm they put on the front door. It requires no modification and causes no issues

Does 90% of what 90% of truck owners need to do. Right on. I have a 2004 Ram 1500 and I love it, but want to upgrade. I can’t see spending $20k more for a new Ram when this will do 90% of what I need to do. Plus, I love Hondas. Three in the family fleet now and have owned several others. Seriously considering the Ridgeline. Great review. I learned a lot more from this than in my recent trip to my local dealer checking out an RTL-E. Thanks for the review!

I have a 2021 and so far I would say yes it's worth it. It's always a give and take and depends on what features your looking for. If you want a really dependable light duty truck you can't beat this. Just check your specs and see what you want to haul or tow and if this is within your range you will not get any better option in my opinion.

Loved your review of the Ridgeline. I would have just made two additions. One when showing the spare tire remind people it is not a full size tire and two a comparison of the ground clearance with your other vehicles. Great review and especially giving the breakdown between the trims, but I'm going to be honest and say I've just about got a headache from the whole thing being shot in wide angle. It's hard to get a good idea of what anything actually looks like when it's all skewed like that. Outside of that, very well done!
I bought the first year of the 2nd generation Ridgeline and never regretted the decision. I sold it to my elder son with about 40k miles on it and he continues to use and enjoy it as well. If I ever get in the financial position to purchase another truck you can be sure it will be a Ridgeline.

I am on the third ridgeline and love the trucks. Biggest complaint is lack of ground clearance if you take this thing off road at all, it performs adequately overall. By far the biggest limiting factor for this “truck” when you leave the pavement is the anemic ground clearance, there are hybrid crossovers with more ground clearance. Compared to other midsized trucks this is one area Honda isn’t even in the ballpark. Otherwise it’s an enjoyable driving and good overall performing vehicle

great review! very informative! Only thing you missed was the width inside for seating. (Shoulder room) the ridge line is wider than all the rest of mid size. it is the reason I bought one over the competition! you can actually fit 3 people in the back. very snug! but you can fit 5 people for a short trip!
Owned one for a year and a half . AND STILL would be driving it but , We traded campers so my needs changed my new truck is a 6.4 and i need it for pulling . that said my Honda was the best ride by far even in any car . fantastic ride, used it to deliver door dash and uber . very well satisfied. sure do miss it , Would i buy it again?. yes without question .
Just bought the 2022 Sport model last month. Get the RTLE if you need the power seats, wireless charging and trunk outlet/audio, but still the Sport is a great truck. Gas is great too (on Eco). Better than my 2012 civic actually.

that one button under the cargo lamp is actually wiper heater. where the wiper sits the windows heats up to melt snow ice off your blade.
Great review. Love my ridgeline, Needs power folding mirrors, radio should stay on for 15 min when you shut off the truck, why no cooled seats like Canadian RTLE's!!!!

fyi, all trims have the subwoofer. They just don't make a lot of noise. I suspect it is a big part of the active noise cancelling system (which is also standard across trims).
I notice a couple of things that my 2021 has that this doesn't. I am not sure if it is because I have a 2021 or because it is a Canadian "Touring" model. I thought the Touring was the equivilent of the RTL-E. The 2021 Touring has climate controls in the rear with a screen, as well and it has front seat fans as well as heating.
Did Honda just save few bucks for 2022? Or is it just the difference between Canadian and USA models?
You should see the Ridgeline in Sonic Grey Pearl... it's a thing of beauty...
The only thing the Ridgeline really needs is more aggressive wheel arches like on the Chevy Colorado. Would be nice if Honda made a Maverick competitor with the CR-V.

I own a 2011 ridgeline, one thing I don't like is, windshield wipers can not be lifted off the windshield, I live in Canada and it would be nice to lift them when cleaning snow.
I have a 2007 Ridgeline and I lobe it. I don't see myself getting rid of any time soon. Now if the new Ridgeline were to come in a hybrid version then yes I'll upgrade. But till then no need.

these things hold their value very well lookat first gens still for sale and if I was going to get a truck I would be all about that smooth ride I drove a ram and couple full size trucks and they don't ride well

Thinking about downgrading from f1-50 to this. Is there a big difference between this and the f150 regarding legroom. Got kids in the back with car seats.

I own one. Smooth, drives like a small car with all utility of a truck and excellent AWD; you’ll never get stuck, plus better mpg. I get 20.9 mpg everywhere. Cab is spacious, comfy seats and very practical and smart.
Buy the bottom trim Sport. All other trims are wasted money and nothing additional.
We need heated seats...those are useful where we live..😃😃

Got 30.1 on a 400 mile trip on a RTL E this summer. Edit: I have a 2019 bought in May of 2018. Thats with the bed full of stuff goin to the bush cabin. All on ECO.....

Great review! I recently ordered a new 2022 Ridgeline RTL-E and should take delivery in a week. Living in the south, one of my major disappointments is no cooled seats. The Pilot and Passport includes them, I don't understand Honda's logic in not including them in the RTL-E.

I believe the Canadian version has cooled seats . Probably because it get hotter in Canada then Florida. Go figure.

Very much interested. The start/stop can be turned off, permanently? Not a fan of that. And does it go from 6 cylinders to 4, with a push of a button. Can I that be disabled? And how reliable is the push button transmission?
The auto shutoff is why I went with the Tacoma.
2 things I like: 6 cylinder engine that could last >250,000 miles. The 4-cylinders that are now the only choice in Chevy Colorado is less likely to last >250,000 miles. 50 inches between the wheel wells so can fit two extra large dog boxes, a sheet of plywood, etc. Compare that to 41.5 inches in the Tacoma.
Great review, I'm downsizing from a 2018 F150 Lariat and test drove the Ridgeline but found the power lacking to what I am used to. Honda needs to offer their 3.0T tuned for regular fuel and give the Ridgeline the much needed low rpm torque.
I bought a 21 black edition. Love it. Make certain to de-activate econ mode. I think it defaults to this might be wrong but doing so really changes performance
