they really did Calus dirty this expansion. I was going into this expecting to fight him in his throne room, he would be there, empowered by the witness, and during the fight we would maybe be going to the shadow realm, and maybe using some other leviathan esc mechanics to kill him. But instead, we fight a reskinned colossus/gladiator with basically no mechanics and it was about as uninteresting as the Eramis fight. I was really hoping with how the Witch Queen was laid out, that would be the standard from then on, but I guess not :/

That Calus was a tool
Rhulk and Nezarec had several lines of defense in their areas, and some even have imprints taken by the Witness. Calus? No such things for him.
It would’ve been cool if Calus succeeded here, ran away and became a Root of Nightmares Boss. Like while in Essence, the Typhon Imperator comes by and you need to kill Calus and after the boss you can finally kill Nezerac.
Honestly a really fun fight for a really fun character. Both this and the Savathun fight are bangers. I definitely feel like the setting could’ve been better though. Something more grandeur for the Emperor himself.
I actually think you fighting Calus in a rather pathetic place fit his character quite well. After all, behind all that opulence is a broken, pathetic husk who never truly felt satisfied despite all his achievements, and his unceremonious end fit him well. Despite all his buildup, the grand image he built himself out to be, ultimately he was the most pathetic pawn out of any character
There were concepts of fighting Calus in his throne room. He also had more interesting movesets like pouring toxic liquid from his chalice that would do AOE damage.
RIP Bozo that’s what he gets for killing his daughter’s dog, man better pour some L into that chalice
Finished the legendary campaign solo. Second phase is a breeze if you defeat both tormentors in phase 1
I know. Only an idiot would keep the two Tormentors alive when Calus starts to lose his mind.
I love that the strat is just to not use strand.
I did, out of spite, and I highly recommend any hunters using strand in the campaign use Assassins Cowl. Both the grapple melee and spike trigger the invis/heal, so just keep grappling into adds, throwing witherhoard (or substitute) at calus, and use a LFR for the tormentors. Taipan with 0 damage buffs at power broke each shoulder in 1 shot, and just shoot them in the chest after grappling to tge next platform.
He's just standing there.....menacingly!

I will admit, this might be like another D1 vanilla situation where the main content was split up. This could be the dark below of D2, and Final Shape will be the Taken King of D2

Say what you will about the Boss Fight, it's definitely my favorite in all of Destiny. The buildup from Calus repsecting us to now wanting us dead is awesome, and the MUSIC?

I really liked his dialogue in this fight, may not be anything profound about it but it does raise my hairs.
Hell there are multiple parts of the mission where it trys to emphesize this feeling of "were gonna die right here, its all or nothing get fired up!"
Really wish there was more successful implementations of that feeling in this game, cause this unfortunately doesnt quite hit that mark, especially not in the ledgend version of the campaign.
i’m surprised the first cutscene worked for you all the way, it kept shutting my xbox one x off when the ghost was going up the portal thingy. then it would tell me it was because of ventilation. i had to do the calus fight 3 times. the 1st error thought it was a fluke, 2nd i was utterly annoyed by the cutscene causing the issue. 3rd time was the charm, skipped the first cutscene. might make a video about it.
Tip for anyone doing this fight: The side platforms shaped like a curve can be used to easily kill the tormentors.
When one spawns, destroy both of its shoulders and get it to follow you. Jump on the curved platform and wait for it. When hes jumping up to it, you jump back off to where he came from. If he comes back down then go back up again. Repeat this back and forth until he eventually just walks off without jumping and dies.
I found this out by accident and its a lifesaver.

As cool as it was, shouldve been either a raid, more difficult, more phases, and a more somber end cutscene, so many good missed opportunities to end the Exiled Emperor Calus.

No it's actually easier. I've beaten it with 2 friends and felt it was way easier than WQ and I also watched a friend solo beat it and it was easier than WQ too. But I've heard some people say that this Calus boss fight was a tough fight to beat on solo.
