To create more meaningful everyday gatherings --
    * Embrace a specific disputable purpose.
    * Cause good controversy. (Heat-- a core ingredient of meaning; burning relevance. Human connection is as threatened by unhealthy peace as unhealthy conflict.)
    * Pop up rules --one time only constitutions for a specific purpose. (Unspoken norms are trouble.)
"Gatherings at their best allow us to be among others, to be seen for who we are and to see."

"because human connection is as threatened by unhealthy peace as by unhealthy conflict." Well said!

Love this so much! "How we gather, is how we live." So insightful! Thank you. Also, the comment about unhealthy peace was incisive. And the rule for moms gathering is awesome. I want to be at that party!:-)

Kurt E. Clothier did make a point about minority opinion and social media. However, I think the umbrella theme of doing what you can, where and when you can and as much as you can, is worth noting, and I think a lot of people do that, in their own ways. Even if it's simply being yourself, where and when you can. And I think we can embrace tradition or we can start new traditions, or merge traditions, because everything and everyone wants to flourish, and even grow and evolve, in their own ways. And this runs across all classes, ages, colors, sizes, sexes and genders, etc. And even introverts go to gatherings, because humans are of a herd mentality, for good reason. We determine our own herds and behave accordingly. Some flourish and some stagnate, and we have a choice. And right now that choice seems to be stagnating in tradition or growing through change. Me, I like growing, and change is scary, but you grow.

I must say I am very impressed by how well the speaker is dressed. The dress is neither conservative nor liberal. It emphasizes her feminine, natural beauty and yet, at the same time, doesn't invoke sexual thought towards the speaker. This is something that all women need to emulate if they don't want to be objectified and want to have their message heard. Ok, I have to admit... My amazement and admiration for her distracted me from listening to her talk 🙂 and I had to go back... 🙂
Now, on the points: I am in agreement with tailoring events to the specific needs - the baby shower story was a good example; and her line of "the human connection is as threatened by unhealthy peace as by unhealthy conflict" was absolutely brilliant and ever more pressing in our modern times - at least in the US. I'm not so sure about the pop up rules though... But still, overall, it was a great talk, thank you. 🙂

liked the topic, some good points in the speach. but today in our western pc culture there is no room left for "good controversy". you can see it in this very speech. non-white woman joking derogatory about white man: totally acceptable. white man joking derogatory about non-white women: you lose your job and get to court.
