Saint Celestine is a revered Living Saint of the Adepta Sororitas' Order of Our Martyred Lady, a being of incredible psychic power and faith believed by many in the Imperium of Man to be have been resurrected from death many times as a tool of the Emperor of Mankind Himself.
As a mortal, she was thought slain during a campaign against the Renegade Warmaster of Forrax, but has returned at various times since to rescue Imperial forces in danger of being destroyed by the enemies of the God-Emperor. Wings spread wide, halo blazing and Ardent Blade in hand, Saint Celestine is an embodiment of the God-Emperor's might.

To be fair, the Emperor adding doves is completely in character for the guy who literally dresses in solid gold armor and decided that shield projectors should look like catholic halos. For a die hard atheist, the Emperor sure sends some mixed messages with his fashion sense.

I mean, I'm agnostic, bordering on atheist, but I still think a lot of the motifs in religious art and architecture, particularly gothic architecture, fuck severely. So I get it.
It's completely understandable since humanity depict him as the perfect god, which manifests as such in the warp. The emperor may still be stuck in the golden throne but the manifestation of faith resides in the warp.

The best thing is that not only are the doves not native to the planet, but doves have probably been extinct for 20,000 years and the best source of meat on the planet wothout resorting to canibalism. I can imagine any guardsmen with her just attempting to capture the doves shouting "come here you heavenly winged beast!"

I mean, I can imagine when humans were colonizing the galaxy, they brought or cloned animals to populate these new worlds. Both for the sake of terraforming (to support a biosphere more to humanity's needs), and just because humans think birbs are neat.

Saint Celestine (and other similar Living Saints) are walking contradictions for Puritan Inquisitors.
On the one hand, their powerset makes it clear that they are Warp entities, so much so that it wouldn't be wrong to call them Daemons.
On the other hand, their power is also clearly derived from The Emperor's very own essence, so to call them Daemons would be heresy.

The way to reconcile this would be to realize that the Emperor has fully ascended to godhood and is capable of making his own Daemons.
But wouldn’t that also have the inquisitors be silent and call the emperor a chaos god?

It would not be inaccurate to call them imperial daemons. They are warp based, or at least energy based, and draw their power from a godlike patron who is widely worshipped and has much blood spilt in his name.
Celistine doesn’t have an iron halo. It’s an ACTUAL REAL halo. Her’s just happens to look like an iron halo, which makes sense since that shape is associated with the already holy relics that are normal iron halos.
That was what I was thinking. Celestine has a _real_ halo, not the fake halo made of science everyone in the Imperium is sporting.

Actually, considering how long the Iron Halo has been around, most of the Imperium likely associates it's shape with being a Halo in the same way most modern folks assume a halo is a gold ring above one's head.
The wings lore bit is really neat. Now I have an image of her just chilling, reading some romance with a cup of tea, then suddenly *wings puff out and DOOM music starts playing*

You laugh. However I once played in a place that had some hilarious rules. Remember the inter continental missile launcher the guard have? If you field one you were allowed to shoot it at OTHER TABLES. They also had a 10 foot by 20 foot game table with spots in the middle of it for you to pop up and move your units around. they used it for like 10 on 10 army wars. it was set up to look like Armageddon for awhile, they also did a Cadia Stands fight on it too (Chaos lost that so damn hard). It always has structures and such on it for full on defense. If you can only shoot 20 inches, you use a 20inch string to check ranges when your units are up on the hive city walls for example. It was wild. Haven't been there since the covid crap started but I know they are open and running again. They are not an official GW place and have 3d printers you can rent time on. So you can get the files, pay for the resin, and they'll make it. Or just select from what they have, pay for the resin, and they make it. However long the thing has to run you also pay a bit for the time. They had 6 printers last I remember.
Celestine is my absolute favorite character. Such a chad; literally refuses to die, hates it, but loves killing.

When celestine rage quites on life she's just that one quote from the Incredibles where she's just like "no matter how many times you save the world it always manages to get back in jeopardy again. I feel like the maid you know..I just cleaned up this mess can we keep in clean for 10 minutes"

I don't know if they're going to mention it or not but I will anyway because it's possibly my favorite quote in all of 40k.
"You may have seen many amazing and terrible things in your life Katarinya, but you have not died and been returned. I have seen beyond the veil, and so I will pray."
Note: it was Greyfax and her scions who actually first fought back abbadon when he had the upper hand. She also prefered to watch Celestine while having the mindshackle scarrabs removed instead of anything else
So, clarify something, she does have to go through the trials in the warp every time she dies, and the place and time when she comes back is not chosen by her. There is a book named "Celestine the Living Saint" that goes through the process and showing her in action. And going along with the "GW stealing from Christianity" thing with Celestine, her trials are heavily inspired by the an old Protestant work called "The Pilgrims Progress", where the character goes through a (metaphorical) spiritual journey where all the pitfalls are named after sins or negative emotions, and in the same way, Celestine finds aspects of herself that positive emotions, and demons that are negative emotions. You should read Celestine, it's a good guard and sisters book.

The Infinite and the Divine has a bunch of dinosaurs living on an Eldar world, and everyone just smiles and nods.
But when a world populated by humans, from Earth, contains doves, which are also from Earth, all of a sudden people feel the need to come up with Warp based shenanigans to explain how this could be possible. In 40K humans have spent thousands of years colonizing millions of worlds, it's not that far fetched that they might bring some animals with them. In fact I think one of the Eisenhorn books mentions a planet that breeds tons of doves that it releases for religious ceremonies (and then the doves die trying to cross the nearby desert, because this is the Grim Dark future of 40K).

Doves being released for ceremonies and then dying isn't that grimdark if you know that similar stuff happens right now.
If I remember correctly in Poland some pigeon breeders release them on journey to a different country (forgot the name, its close and still in central europe) and almost half of them don't make it
I love the idea of the Emperor before the battle between the Sisters and Salamanders against the Black Legion straight up saying: "Your are going to descend upon them in a ball of my fiery rage" and then Celestine goes "Yes my Emperor"

I still like the idea that Celestine is a named Greater Daemon of the Emperor (Like Skarbrand is a named Bloodthirster). I would also like to see an instance of Celestine and the Legion Of The Damned appear and how the Imperium reacts.

@@woaddragon That is exactly what happened at Cadia. The Legion of the Damned disappeared when the anti warp pillars activated. Celestine didn't because she is fully alive each time. She bleeds, breathes, etc. The LoD...DON'T.
It seems here and there a couple of common animals from old Earth went out across the galaxy with humanity, hence why shit like horses and dogs and pigs can get a little mention or refer here and there in the Imperium- meaning it's 100% possible doves are on that list
It also seems like some animal paterns reoccure throughout the universe, like toads on catachan, or dinasaurs on aeldarie maiden worlds, so white birds would be quite common

As an American, I can say that we do indeed remember everything the French has done at us. And, despite how willing we are to make fun of the French, we are just as willing to come to the defense if needed.

That book with Celestine and Kharn is Shroud of Night. One of my personal favorites just because it has so much going on. Alpha legion warband trying to heist a kid that acts as a mini astronomicon under the noses of the mechanicus, imperial fists,and sisters while Khorne's forces assault the planet for the beacon. Top notch action thriller but I don't think it ever got an audio version
Listened to Celestine: The Living Saint recently and you get so many awesome details about what she has to go through to come back. Really good book.
My head canon is now that Celestine is perpetually harassed by doves that just appear, everywhere she goes. On a dinner date with Greyfax? Doves walk out from under the table. In the shower? Doves land on the curtain rod. Goes for a walk? Pursued by a massive flock of pidgeons.
That's the true hell, not her dying but the doves 🕊🕊🕊

Oh God, I was telling my boss about the silliness of the Doves, and she counters the insanity of making these doves just for them to die in a non-earth ecosystem by saying that obviously Celestine gathered them up and keeps them on her spaceship

I just thought of something... going along the lines of "maybe the emperor became a god because of the human's worship."
So, if Slaanesh can claim the Eldar's souls when they day because they created her, AND she gets power from this, is it not then possible that every human soul that dies ALSO feeds/empowers the Emperor? They aren't as Warp-present as an Eldar, but they die in enough numbers it still should do something, right? Following all of this I had a thought: Does that mean that if they could figure out a way to channel it in a specific way, or if he wanted to, that the emperor could possibly heal from their losses and the sacrifice of the Psykers?
That is one of the many belief system of the Inquisition..

@@rinsgravity2007 I liked Valorous Heart in 8th, haven't tried them in 9th. I can't imagine a squad of twenty sisters with a 2+/4++/6+++, access to transhuman physiology and miracle dice dies quickly.

I found it , its in the book shroud of night to simplify it. It was a one sided massacre and what happened was kharn walked up to her smashed her sword out of her hands, ripped the wings of her back and decapitated her.
He tried. Celestine woke up atop a pile of corpses in the warp naked. She sighed angrily, took up a sword and killed every daemon in her way to go get her armor. Basically Kharn is going to be very mad she cheated, or very happy he can harvest in infinite number of skulls

DK, in Red Path, Kharn kills a dreadnought, then an Imperial Saint (same type as Celestine) and then fights Abaddon right after, all while injured. Kharn is playing with hacks, while sending Doomguy running; all while Doomguy is shitting himself. Do not underestimate The Betrayer lol

If you run a narrative crusade you can choose any Adeptus Sororitas Character model to have the potential to become a living saint through trials
I would love a custom or a generic living saint. I always wanted an Imperial Guard living saint for my Guard army.

The idea of a Saint-focused game by the Bayonetta developer comes off as slightly weird, right up until you remember that skulls are an icon of the Imperium. Also, just because Celestine is nicer than most 40k people doesn't mean she can't be a little sassy and xenophobic.
