I was the person who worked with David in the student pub, i divised the quiz, did the questions and music., Divine David was the front.. Wonderful times..
David's a national treasure and should be given the Crown Jewels. 53:15 David Hoyle's living room installation at the Contact Theatre, M/C, circa 2001, was very special. David imported his living room in a theatre space, his lampstand, his armchairs, his turntable and records, and occupied the space for 2 weeks for up to 10 hrs a day. Total transparency. Visitors would interact with David, had no choice really because there was no stage, to visit the space meant entering the space. David would invite you to sit down and did what he always did: improvised a conversation with you. Sometimes he would paint the huge white sheets on the wall, or play a '60s record. This was also an early video/chat livestream before the days of youtube. It was magic. Penny Arcade was over from New York doing a show on the main stage of Contact Theatre at the time and she loved to drop by David's installation living room, and after the show she would decompress in the living room space, and tell us all about Quentin Crisp. He really did like his toast done on one side. Penny sure loved David and sure loved his installation space. I think David reminded her of QC.
david its david here from you're bristol gig march 2017 . i felt like i met god.that night and with you're impeccable thoughts and delivery x you are a legend x i want to make you things (avant gaurd a given x keep shining you're light and making all laugh and think deeply x david x lets live
absolutely love davids 'raw honesty"i could spend hours in his company he's so funny, kind, and sensitive, next time he's in London i really want to see him,i truly believe he'd make a superb friend and i really wish he was mine💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌
Had the fortune to experience a pub quiz hosted by David this evening at Factory. They are as sharp ever. Flitting between light drag jest and deeply political commentary. Personally a new discovery, but one I'm SO eager to delve deeper into!
He's so well spoken. I honestly had never heard of him until today. (I'm American) What a great story of overcoming self destruction and self hatred. 💙
The irony of this interview is that the real David is so unlike the Divine David. During that interview there was not one swear word or one obviously crude comment and the deepness of phrase was riveting. Although he speaks with a Lancashire accent he has trained himself to be articulate and is clearly an educated and learned man.
Saw The Divine David by chance, late one night on channel 4 many moons ago and it made a huge impression - such unfettered madness was really new to me and the edge between disturbing and hilarious shocked me in the best way possible. Seems like a really cool, interesting man.
Very underrated comedian & genius willing to step out of the box. Amazing how different he is in his true persona. I wish he had had many more full length shows.
So proud of David, Boy George and others, that put themselves through these types of interviews. I think it probably helps them come to terms with things in their lives, but more importantly, it helps myself and others realize how tough it was for them, but they overcame a lot of adversity and are still with us. Very intelligent speaker. Thanks for sharing.
Doug Rocket is one of the best comedy creations ever. Everything he does is hysterical. Also I'm a huge Faith No More fan, so seeing David in one of their videos was amazing.
+John InfiniteHive what what what?? which FNM video is this please. That's excellent news. Can't wait for your reply. . . . . I absolutely love the Doug Rocket character. I hope but doubt there will be another Nathan Barley sequel.
That's how I discovered him he was so good in that video , I've watched that one he did satan/Santa like a hundred times its so funny he's such a good story teller so intense but funny
David we have lived parallel lives. Only mine was in central London. This is why I love you so much. I've never missed a show. You have taught me everything I know. As well as many other amazing people. I would love you to come to my yard to put the worlds to rights. Trust me. We can do it.
I instantly felt a deep connection to your words. It's uncanny how David has expressed many of my deepest thoughts and feelings. Life is very complicated but some surprising moments explode into reality and release something that I think is joy.
Fantastic, sincere interview from the 1st minute to the last. I wish the best for David. Great person, remarkable story. Is there a documentary about David? There ought to be. I would love to hear the pub landlords side of the story... painting with excrement... Blackpool... copious amounts of drugs and alcohol.
Remembering that time David was in charge of the door at Flesh, at The Hacienda, and myself slightly bedraggled asked him if I could get a pass out for a moment, the reply came “darling pass out anywhere you like, pass out over there, with your hand palm up on your forehead” 😄🤩
I could listen to this guy a lot. Never heard of him until I Utubed `I started a joke` a few days ago for `Suicide Squad` and found Faith No More video. Im straight but this is a fantastic man.
The laughter is so odd. Nothing is funny. It's like the only way for the listener to hear what is being said is to veil it in humour and perhaps the reverse is why drag is so powerful.

What a thoroughly nice honest chap and very witty
One of the best comedians the country has produced.
Fascinating. Sad that it often has to take such a tortured youth to create such a warm and creative person. A great interview. Thanks for posting.
I've always respected David and I've met him a few times and he's absolutely lovely
I didn't discover this genious until Nathan Barley. The character Doug Rocket was brilliantly done. "So, what are you for?", epic.
One of the most honest articulate and engaging human beings to have ever opened his mouth . .
his voice is so soothing !?!?
I'm 59 and female, sad really.,because I love him and his intelligence and talents
...and the interviewer is brilliant, totally connected.

what a complete legend!! x
Deeply fascinating and moving insight into one of the most honest, original and uncompromising entertainers of our time.
He truly is a smashing person.
I could listen to David all day ❤️

What does speaking with a Lancashire accent have to do with being articulate, educated or learned? Obviously from his example, it doesn't.
I don't ever remember the Divine David swearing.

That Channel 4 show was definitely my way into alt culture!
What a genuinely lovely man

I could identify with so much of this....wonderful & funny & heartbreaker. Thank you so much David for articulating your life story.
I know David from the scene in Manchester. Very funny. Very sensitive. Very genuine guy.
My favourite person I've never met
I Love him and Boy George in ''Spoiling it for the others'' song.
thanks for that, I hadn't come across that wideo, what a treat! :)
How did I miss this? So great to hear David speak. Much appreciated x
Such an insight into this great performer x
I watch this once a week. ❤️
What a nice guy!
one word: comedic genius
lol
So much to think about, loved this, thanks for posting!

"To believe that anyone could, or would love me." A telling phrase.
I like this person very much - lovely to hear him speaking so eloquently. Genuinely interesting
Offtopic but his face lights up so beautifully when he laughs
I always enjoy finding out that the character is nothing like the performer. Julian Clary springs to mind too.
Julian Clary('s on screen persona) is like a TV AM-friendly incarnation of The Devine David.
wow such personal questions!!
They're so amazing
Thank you for sharing your experience David, you're an amazing human.
If only I would have known of this person until now =(
This is so wonderful

Quite interesting interview with a perfect interviewer voice.
I wish the man happiness
i love him ...
So good to be a child growing up around much older people
I think it’s so advantageous
1970s was very physical and violent that’s just one aspect of it
It’s horrible to feel so isolated and lowly when you are just a little child.
I could listen to this guy a lot. Never heard of him until I Utubed `I started a joke` a few days ago for `Suicide Squad` and found Faith No More video. Im straight but this is a fantastic man.
I always found the Divine David a bit scary. Great interview and what a lovely bloke.
this man is a MIRACLE.
17:00 *If only I had my own show on the telly...I'd turn it up so loud that..
...I'd be forever immortalized..!
(evillaugh)
A tortured soul, but really likes making people laugh. And it's a blessing that he's a great comedian.
The world is burning.
*les maserbeyt*
Genius performer. A love child of Julian Cope and David Bowie.
A lovely man who always gives me comments on his instagram
"I am very intruiged by people who would find it easier to have a child than to stop a war." Got it in one!!
DAVID YOU ARE A HERO (INE) XXXXX
It’s ridiculous that he has to talk about his sexuality, heterosexuals don’t get asked about these things do they. Very lovely man x
A fucken idol
The world is burning...
Fucking brilliant!
Oh, God - I think he's me!
7:43 If there was ever a Bible that had this in it.
im not gay but this is interesting
Have you came out yet
Is it Nathan interviewing 🎤
Is this guy divine David from the memes?
Grapefruit juice? ...Eeee...yeuch!
People in the United Nacions
In the thumbnail, he looks like a dead ringer for Cillian Murphy. Not joking.
people think theyre there for laughs.
Not nice for the man to suffer with beatings and no one helped him
I am a new subscriber and writing comments under my husbands name my name is caroline
He's deeply unhappy and I feel sorry for him. However I don't agree with some of his views on straight people.
The laughter is so odd. Nothing is funny. It's like the only way for the listener to hear what is being said is to veil it in humour and perhaps the reverse is why drag is so powerful.
He lost me when he connected straight people to mass murder lol.
