Been playing a lot of farming simulator 2019. I gotta ask. Why mow then immediately plow, but how do you pick up the mowings? Is it just a “cover crop”?
That's not really a mower right ?. Why would you mow something and then plow it under. And it's only like .5 inches tall. I am pretty confused as to what is going on
Mowing a cover crop just before plowing it under must be a Dutch belief. No one in America would mow it first. But dang that is a huge two-way plow. Seven bottoms, biggest two-way I've ever seen.
@@schlepperkonsi A 16 bottom roll-over plow? More than double the size of the plow in this video and still a roll over?? You must mean 8 bottoms on each side, one more than the plow in this video. What I'd call a 16 bottom would have that many on each side for 32 total, which I can't imagine could possibly exist or work mounted on a 3 point.
Clever guys, behind the screens....the track after the tires make it difficult to trough the covercrop down in the forrow.....all of us who did “on land plaughing” know this. If you make first forrow wider you will possibly cover more grass(and not always, depend on soil and adjustment of “pre plough”), but end up with more uneven field.
By all means impressive combination, this Fendt 939 can handle this easily. Technically nice with the 'Front Roto-Arm,' well designed Mechanisatie Haarlemmermeer! The rye grass cover crop does a lot of good to the soil and opportunity to be able to drive on the side of the furrow. Although in evaluating terms, the weight of the Lely power harrow add a lot of weight to one side of the combination, to the wheels on that side. It also means that the mower at the front leans at an angle. If it would have been working, it wouldn't cut the cover crop equally over the full width of the mower. Moreover, the extra weight put on one side of the tractor wheels causes the soil to get compacted and smeared by both wheels (see at: 1:51 onwards .. ), just before the plow turns it in the deepest part of the furrow. I am not sure whether that is without an effect in coming years. Guess wise if the farmer could check that with a spade.
I noticed the same thing. I don't know if the harrow is supposed to be used in float mode, but if it is, it looks like the roto-arm isn't going far enough to actually reach a point where the harrow supports itself, instead of being supported by the arm. The roto-arm should probably have at least a small counterweight for conveniency. In this case, I don't think the compaction difference will be noticeable after plowing, but that's an uneducated guess on my part.
Continuous plowing will create a plow pan that nothing except deeper tillage will fix. Including legumes with a large tap root or some tillage radishes in the crop rotation may help. The better option is to let the rye head out and go over it with a roller crimper before planting, or to use a burn down herbicide prior to planting. Although at times necessary, tillage is one of the worst things for soil structure.
@@toyotaecw Ok, thought when the tractor stays on top, of the land surface, called 'on land plowing', like here, the development of a plow pan is much less of a problem. In this case, one don't need to have the tractor wheels on one side driving through the furrow at the depth of 25-30 cm. Where normally with wheel slippage its the main cause of development of a plow pan. Driving ón the land also allows to use much wider tractor tires ánd lower pressure in there.
@@toyotaecw Largely agree with what you state, later on. Tillage can be one of the worst things for soil structure, adding to compaction and harm to soil structure, although sometimes necessary. Though there is continued search for less and low tillage practices among farmers in many countries, like in the NL. Use of a cover crop rooting deeper to break an eventual plow pan will certainly is appreciated. Also agree that better option could be to let the top layer of this heavy soil dry out more and later on go over it with a roller crimper before planting. Don't know if a burn down herbicide prior to planting is foreseen. In NL try to limit the use of chemicals as much as possible and replace it with other measures like mechanical weed killing and tillage solutions.
@@corgraveland4874 In the States burn down is a very common practice though some groups are trying to clamp down on the use of certain herbicides. I’m on a small dairy farm and we usually use glyphosate or paraquat. If the weather allows we plant into a standing cover and burn down soon after. I’d like to pursue roller crimping and use chemicals as a second option if necessary.
Een van de vanggewas / groenbemesters in de video is idd raaigras, ik neem aan Italiaans raaigras. Donkergroen, heeft flink wat stikstof gevangen. Klepelen lijkt hier idd niet nodig, misschien daarom gewoon doorgereden zonder te maaien/klepelen. Hoewel je het inkuil effect wel wilt voorkomen?
@@corgraveland4874 als je direct zaait op de geploegde grond is klepelen wel degelijk beter! Stikstof werkt goed voor groei van beginletters en klepelen betekend een snellere opname van de bouwstoffen.
I dont like how the that plow is sat up. Its not plowing correct. It looks waay to complicated all the things he has going in the front. It much be a pain to keep watching so many things while plowing.
The working with of the first furrow isnt in 100% correct position, but its no big deal. maybe he cant change it because of the position or working width of the furrow? Anyway its an exellent and efficient combination!

What's the point of mowing in front of it?
To chop the grass finely which helps to aid decomposing. The soil life can take in the grass more easily.
