  • I'm not sure the world needs yet another Johnny B Goode guitar lesson, but here it is anyway! Hopefully I can bring something fresh to this one. I've done my best to try and make this the most accurate, reliable and complete tutorial on this song available. In this video I'm looking at the guitar solo.

    Great job Adrian! Chuck is quite difficult in his repetitious simplicity. Most folks, me too, started out playing this tune by giving up and using minor pentatonic. Through time we adjust and play the major. But few people stop to get it right. Would be a smash to show up and play this great song correctly. The band would all smile for certain. Thanks again you are the best.

    I gave up trying to learn the two sections of this iconic solo from other tutorials..Coming across your channel I found your lesson to be pleasant and relaxed but still positive and progressive..This in turn rubbed off on me and guided me to finally nail these solos I've wanted to learn for so long..thanks Adrian my Mr. Cool..

    Another great job, Adrian. I've got a renewed appreciation for Chuck Berry now that you have taken the trouble to get this song broken down the way he played it. Almost all of the other versions I've seen on TH-cam or in lessons cut plenty of corners, something that all the double stops seem to help cover up. Thanks as always .....

    Ok thanks. You make it look so easy that it seems it can be mastered in minutes, but not to be. The explanation given is terrific and have made me convinced I can eventually play it. Have always played rhythm but a new project for me. Regards. Dave.

    Adrian, I’m a big Chuck Berry fan and I’ve always wanted to play guitar like him! I took guitar lessons six times in my earlier years but it didn’t take! The teacher is everything in music, and you have a gift of teaching just as much as playing now I can bring Chuck Berry back to the world. Thank you so much!

    Yes, the world does ABSOLUTELY need another Johnny B Goode guitar lesson. You are the only one teaching it as far as I know and I find that very curious. Where's all the love and brotherhood of guitar players? This guy started guitar driven Rock and Roll as the world came to know it when BB King was still looking down his nose on it wanting to be a Jazz/bluesman. BB didn't get recognized by the mainstream in Rock and Roll until Eric Clapton decided to make him God in the late 70s. BB wasn't able to sing and play at the same time, nor was he able to play with any moderate speed. I'm not putting him down, but he had little skills compared to Chuck. Chuck played upside down, behind his neck doing the duck walk faster than BB could play. I played my first gig in 1964 as a drummer, in 1966 I switched to be the the band's rhythm guitar player and in 1970 I became the lead guitar player. Johnny B Goode was always in the repertoire. In 1964 there was slim pickens for real Rock and Roll songs. Rock and Roll was still a baby and Chuck Berry tunes were not a preference. They were an absolute must, because they started it all. Thank you for your show of proper respect to the guy that got 1000s of young Americans and Brits playing guitar. An endless bag of licks that fit into Johnny B Goode would make a wonderful series of lessons. Thank you for all your "Goode" work!!! I appreciate it. I never get tired of it for some reason and love to see hear everyone's perspective on 50s Rock and Roll. RIP Chuck Berry.

      Chuck couldn't play and sing at the same time either. Just rhythm.

    • @TheStompboxer
      @TheStompboxer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chuck couldn’t touch BB’s vibrato (who can?) or melodicism. As far as playing and singing at the same time, listen to Live at the Regal, instead of his trademark humility on that U2 video. He’s the only guitarist on that recording, and he plays plenty of rhythm behind his singing.
      Chuck was a legend, too, but he couldn’t have done what BB did any more than BB could do what Chuck did.

    Excellent lesson. The ironic thing is, I don't think there's a single live performance by Chuck where he plays the intro "like the record". He obviously regarded it as a one-off, not something set in stone.(Somebody prove me wrong, by all means). Then there's the famous scene from Hail Hail Rock 'n Roll, where he gets Keith Richard flustered by insisting he plays Carol the proper way, again a song Chuck himself never played the same way twice. Wicked sense of humour, I guess. :-)

    • @TheStompboxer
      @TheStompboxer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      gibb253 For 99% of that movie, Keith’s frustration is understandable. That scene is the one time Chuck’s is. Keith was having some weird mental block about the pre-bend. Probably from playing it his own way for so long. It happens.
