I think they should have become independent but later. I mean Spanish presence in Guinea ended in 1985, with the depature of the of the Spanish Civil Guard and the conversion of TVE Guinea in to thd state TV of Guinea. Had it become independent back then instead of 1968 things would have been very different.
Not really sure. I think that that it was the period of the time which made it easier for dictators to rise in power in Africa. Also don't forget, that the colonial powers had done horrible things to their colonies. And when you get out evil of someone, than it will sometimes lead to evil.
I remember this version but cut and with poor quality.. it's a true musical gem. One of the last musical pieces of Francoism. I really love this arrangement (I can separate each instrument and see them in my mind-score). The old German band's arrangement is based on it, but they added a piccolo to complete the high octave. Is it from your vinyl collection?
The tune of this anthem has some similarities with the German song "Nimm mich mit Kapitän auf die Reise" by Hans Albers: m.th-cam.com/video/Vbm9CWvnQus/w-d-xo.html But certainly it is not the same melody. To the best of my knowledge, the composer lieutenant Ramiro Sánchez López was deputy director of music at the army headquarters in Madrid at that time and was asked to compose the anthem for the independence celebrations (and one wonders if he had the Hans Albers song on mind). But the first arrangement should have been for a Spanish Band.
did you know that the Chinese military band also uses this version of the national anthem when performing for state visits? they used a few weeks ago when the president visited China during the welcoming ceremony! although how would they be able to get the sheet music for it? i can't even find it!
Who would have known that months later, that Macias Nguema would become one of Africa's most awful dictator.
