  • My personal opinion on this driver is they didn't care less....they ignored multiple chances to pull in to let the ambulance pass but didn't and judging by the fact they were using the hard shoulder in the first place tells you they wanted to skip traffic and used the ambulance lights and sirens to get even more in front.
Hopefully they was fined, disgraceful to think there is people out there so desperate to get somewhere that they'd use hard shoulders and block emergency vehicles.

    th-cam.com/users/shortsBPssH3T1iPk - Golf tailgates ambulance on a 999 call.
Crazy driver brake checks ambulance - th-cam.com/users/shortsJDrz-phmhb8
Update - from a longer video it shows the Astra keep going for quite a long distance before having to stop due to even more cars blocking the hard shoulder so the ambulance is held up for god knows how long! tonight i will be posting another video showing a driver purposely brake checking a ambulance and stopping it from overtaking.
From what i can find online the ambulance did indeed make it to the incident it was responding to but was delayed massively..a very ill person was left waiting twice as long for a ambulance because drivers couldn't be bothered to wait and instead used a HARD SHOULDER specifically designed for emergency vehicles to skip traffic, made someone wait for a ambulance to jump traffic and it gained you what? still stuck in traffic...
Cant find any information on the drivers being fined but i would like to think they was.
A few people have been pointing out this driver possibly isn't British, not sure how this justifies the fact they held up a ambulance and refused to move? isn't it common knowledge across every single country that you have to move out the way for emergency vehicles? if they don't understand British laws or don't know how to drive they just shouldn't be on the road.
Another excuse i have seen is the car had its hazards on which again means nothing...car clearly wasn't broke down but lets say it had some fault why would they speed up and drive all the way down? surely they'd want to go as slow as possible and move out the way quickly so they can turn the car back off?
And a few others think its a overreaction but people need to understand how stretched the NHS is....my neighbour needed a ambulance and had to wait 2 hours for it to turn up due to strikes and the NHS being over stretched now imagine that ambulance that took 2 hours to turn up normally was being held up by drivers like this....minutes can be the difference between life and death.
Also this part of the M20 is NOT a smart motorway! as confirmed by the crew and others who know this part of the M20, it will be made clear if you're traveling on a smart motorway these drivers just wanted to skip traffic.

And the most important thing - they shouldn't be at the emergency lane in the first place!

    • @maxpowers9129
      @maxpowers9129 ปีที่แล้ว +43

Them being in the shoulder lane isn't the point the video kept complaining about. It was about the driver not getting out of the lane that the video kept pointing out. That is the point of the video.
People are blaming them for not moving into tiny spaces where the would have to slow down stopping the ambulance in order to pull in. Their confusion was actually understandable once they were already in that situation and didn't know how to get out of it.
They screwed up by getting in that lane, however the video was trying to make it look like they intentionally kept slowing down the ambulance. Driving school doesn't teach you how to correct yourself once you've already made a mistake.
If they just wanted to say that this situation wouldn't have happened had they not been in that lane that would have been fine, but they instead acted like the driver just didn't care. They took somebody that started off being inconsiderate, and then pretended like they were evil. That is the point of the video.

There is no excuse so i highly doubt the truthfulness of your statement. They cant be trying to excuse something that doesnt have an excuse, nobody does that. Just filling in the whole picture makes way more sense. And cant you understand those are 2 different choices with completely different factors to consider. The only connection with those is "what if theres an emergency on my way". That is weak, i drive 100 km (60 miles) every day but an emergency vehicle passing me is at best a monthly occurance.
If you werent traumatized by these videos you might decide to do the exact same thing. Im not saying its right, every murderer also decided the exact same thing but its still not the right thing to decide.

When my grandpa died that night i was super upset with the ambulance but I found out a couple months later that someone had cut them off and no one was moving for them so they literally could not get to us. He was most likely also trying to be a bit of help by pushing people out of the way if they had gone into that lane too he didn't mean to purposely skip the queue he just needed to let the ambulance get through quick and the only way to do that with that small amount of space was to speed up ahead of him so please people most of you are adults responding in these comments grow up a bit I'm 16 and probably know British law than you do...

It "should" be an international LAW, that any ambulance running lights & siren, be allowed to BUMP (nudge, whack, side-swipe and run into) any offending vehicle where the driver is unaware, or intentionally "blocking", an abulance, without ANY need to stop and render assistance, to any idiot so "bumped, pushed, side-swiped or run into".
Not all that many drivers would be willing to get sideswiped by, or have the rear of their vehicles getting RUMP_RAMMED - by, a faster running emergency vehicle if they were ALL retro-fitted with solid impact bumper/nudge/kangaroo/bull bars.
That should also apply to the retro-fitment to fire engines as well as to some (if not all) Police cars, as then, the entire travelling public would soon become VERY aware, of the need to "move-over & give-way" to all emergency vehicles of any order.
PLUS, none would be covered by "accident insurance", if it were proven they DID NOT quickly expidite the pathway to be cleared, for any emergency vehicle, even if not impacted, as dashcams would also be fitted to every emergency vehicle, to "prove" the validity of any claim made, against any (offending) vehicle registration number.

I heard the driver key up and ask for permission to use the shoulder because nobody was moving out of the way. I rode in the back of the ambulance with our son while my husband followed in the car. My newborn son almost died bc of this behavior. They did CPR on him 3 times bc the rescue kept getting stopped by rude & illegal drivers. My parents were following in their car & my Dad took photos of every car license plate that blocked the ambulance. That was way before cell phones & he only had the camera bc I had delivered the baby & wanted pics. Those cars were his 1st pics of his grandson. That is how he always told the story. "My 1st pics of my grandbaby were of the back of his ambulance & vehicles that blocked it. Thankfully my son lived & his a happy, healthy 34 year old man who is a strong 6'7" tall, smart guy.

Most countries here in Europe do have such a rule: the rescue or emergency corridor.
The UK do not. Usually you should just stick on the main lanes, keep the hard shoulder clear, as per usual; when the hard shoulder has been cleared for regular use though, there is absolutely no rule they need to follow. And you never know where emergency services are gonna go. Are they taking the hard shoulder or are they clearing themselves a path somewhere in between lanes? who knows!
